EA didn't backpeddle on their microtransactions because of any potential legislation, they did it because of Disney. I think you forgot that they - completely out of the blue - announced changes coming to their other game that features similar system to BF2: recent Need For Speed title. Disney has absolutely no say in that IP.

The first part of this video is about loot boxes.
All Ubisofts games are, aparently, delayed. Gee, I wonder why!?

Then, seeing the backlash of loot crates recently, they decided to re-consider how heavily they relied on loot crates. Well they don't rely on loot crates in one of their flagship title (ACO), and in fact their mtx system in that game is praised across multiple places on the Web as 'mtx done right' as a response to the whole BF2 debacle, so...

Sure i read or watched a article stating something like 8/9 billion was spent on games in a year but 16 billion was spent on mtx/loot crates same year, if true makes you realize why they are there an why EA pushes for game as service, do i like it? no I blame mobile game market an a exceedingly bored population with nothing else better to do

If the game is enjoyable, I have no problem buying stuff through micro-transactions, just like I don't think many people object to spending money on all the additional merchandise (like toys, or t-shirts, or whatever there is) that is released for stuff people like and want to further support creators that way. In fact I'm not really into collectibles that usually I have less use of than a fancy skin in a game I actually play relatively often, so for me an option to further support something I like that way is a win-win. And I might be wrong, but I think a lot of people are in the same category as me. It's when I'm forced to use mtx because all the cool stuff or stuff that lets me play and enjoy the game are behind a paywall is where things cross the line into a big no-no territory.

How game quality has decreased, and micro transactions have increased. Coupled with a general belief, that publishers want to milk their customers for every penny they can. And will use any and all methods they can, while seeming to be concerned with customers well being and happiness.

If quality wasn't an issue they could release as planned in whatever state it was in. If milking cash is a priority, why would they delay the time they can start milking, they are losing money by delaying. I don't understand how that would stack up?

Simple enough, they've seen the backlash of battlefront. And I'd bet that destinies backlash reinforced this. So, in order not to seem as money grubbing as EA, they needed to delay the games, and either take out or reduce the influence of loot boxes/micro transactions in those games.

In other words, it's one of the 'easier' aspects of a game to adjust (technically) pre-launch and so would not typically prompt a delay. Reducing the impact, for example, is just changing a few numbers: change X zots instead of XX zots... Battlefront II's MTX could be switched off almost instantly, it didn't take a month of patching. Doesn't look like a compelling reason for a delay on multiple games to me.

Ripping out a progression system that relies on random drops from loot boxes is not. One is some tables. The other is rather coded game mechanic.

Ripping out a progression system that relies on random drops from loot boxes is not. One is some tables. The other is rather coded game mechanic. That's a fair analysis, but we know very little upon which to base meaningful conclusions. Of the three delays, one is Far Cry 5, a delay of a month. That seems like too short a delay to rip out a whole progression system, so putting that down to polishing *. *an industry lesson from MEA would appear to be that 'polish matters' The Crew 2 (not a franchise I know much about) delays from March to the window April to September. That could be ripping out a progression system, it could also be a bunch of other things. And the third delay is an unnamed game delayed by 6-12 months. I think it's a huge reach to ascribe particular motivations to such delays without additional evidence. www.forbes.com/sites/insertcoin/2017/12/07/assassins-creed-origins-inspires-ubisoft-to-delay-three-games-including-far-cry-5/#1e99aba86695I feel Ubisoft's announcement (which I've de-PR'd) seems pretty credible. "Assassins Creed Origins has longer development. It released less buggy. It sold really well." "If we delay some games so they release less buggy, they will sell really well too."I don't think we need to go looking for hypothetical economy mechanics as a reason for the delay.

However, the latest Deus Ex had allegedly its MT added in the very last minute.

Perhaps to recover the value messed up when they tried to 'augment people's pre-orders'. Studios do seem to underestimate the value of the goodwill of the player base.

I think it's rather the publishers. Maybe driven by some incentive to present niceties at the next financial presentation.

Well, apparently the guy from Hawaii wants to put out a bill to ban possible gambling, loot boxes, microtransactions and the likes. This is no longer about just Star Wars, so I guess it fits this thread (??) I never knew a politician who actually gives a fuck about the people. Color me massively surprised.

From what I've seen gaming industry is shook by scandals fairly regularly. It's crashed once already too, in large part because everybody got greedy and had over-saturated the market with consoles and a flood of crappy games.

No one buys games, they buy products. It is what people wanted, in the end. I just find it funny folks are surprised by that.
