Ellawyn Ha! It's reversed for me. I got lucky enough to love the Garrus romance and unlucky to fall for the Blackwall romance. Wonder what the pattern is for that kind of taste in romance? In a way, Inquisition always felt like compensation for Mass Effect only having two completed hetero romances for Femshep. I used to joke that the missing content for Thane and Jacob went to Cullen and Solas. Hopefully, the next Dragon Age game will have something we all like!

I'm really excited about Andromeda so the news makes me happy! Love both franchises, and news about the upcoming game in one franchise always helps tide over the time til news about the next game in the other.

Liara's romance has the most in depth content but Liaramancers have complained that her character seems to flipflop back and forth on whether she remembers that Shepard and her are in a relationship. She requires repeated assurance that there's romantic feelings and her friendship content blurs with the romanctic, but it's still one of the most touching amongst the fanbase. Liara will take it well if you move on (she will mention any ME2 romance if you pick a paragon interrupt in Lair of the Shadow Broker.) She will, however, dump Shepard if two timed in ME3. Nothing dramatic, just a quiet, angry "I'm done with playing games" comment. She doesn't like being strung along. Which is fair enough. Thane's had the potential to be a serious competitor with Garrus and Kaidan had he been given far more content. He's definitely swoon worthy. *Sigh* Don't remind me. I settle for Kaidan purely because the Thane romance is so low in content. I will never not be bitter about how they short-changed the ME2 romances - unless you romanced fan waifu Tali or fan husbando Garrus of course. I'll never not be bitter about that either. See my comment about BioWare playing favorites. "Oh, you romanced Jack or Thane or Miranda or Jacob? Well I hope you like five-minute long holo messages. Or being cheated on and dumped. Or having your boyfriend straight up die halfway through the game. But hey, go with Garrus or Tali and you might get a romance that the devs actually cared about!" At least with Dragon Age I seem to have a knack for throwing my hat in the most popular rings, with Solas and Alistair having pretty sizable fan bases. I'd hate to be a Blackwall fan right now, though. There's a romance that probably won't be getting much attention in subsequent games. Thane is wonderful. I really would have liked to romance Thane, but... I think one heartbreak is enough for me. I romanced Kaidan in ME1, but since then I've come to see him as a little brother, I think I'll romance Liara if I go through ME1 again. How's her romance? Does she make you feel guilty if you move on in ME2? I'm very happy with my choices so far, and I am very glad to have Fenris and Garrus to distract me from the pain of Solas. Admit it, you just like guys whose names end in "S." ...In all seriousness, I feel like one of the reasons why I'm not too fond of Garrus' romance is BECAUSE it's too easy. That and, while ME2 did give him a bit more personality, I still feel like he's just the generic funny guy. Not much in his character that I can really get a hold of. Granted I feel like most of the ME1 companions suffer from being a bit on the bland side. And I still don't really care for the romances in DA2. Lol, Garrus, Fenris... Alistairs... Yes, Garrus can sometimes feel like a guy's guy, and the relationship is extremely easy and uncomplicated, but especially after Solas, I really appreciated all that. I see what you mean about Bioware playing fan favourites, it must be extremely frustrating and I can see why you'd feel bitter about it. I wish they had given Thane more time/content in ME3 too, he was one of my favourite characters, and even though I didn't romance him, his death still hit me pretty hard. I'm actually pretty sore that they decided to kill off most of the characters I really liked.

I love Garrus so much. His romance was shockingly perfect. I didn't intend to romance the bird-dinosaur man...I almost went with Jacob in the second game until he showed up. With his.. sniper rifle..and..voice..and suave comments..and this pose!: Curse you, Garrus Vakarian!

Perhaps we should tag ME spoilers here (especially those concerning companions) as some have not yet played any of the games...

I mean, expressing why you liked a romance is OK in my book, I just think we should try to avoid giving away info that would spoil the romances for those who have yet to try them. So saying that you really like Garrus' romance because it's fun, or Thane's because it's emotional is fine, just nothing that verges on giving away huge events or plot points.

OR you can romance THANE and you should romance Thane because everyone romances Garrus and I'm so lonely with my sad frog dad *Sobs into pillow.* ...Interestingly, I hardly ever see any one bring up Kaidan anymore... *raises hand* Kaidanmancer here! I know people find him boring but that man still makes me swoon whenever I replay my canon Shep. I go with Kaidan as well. I like his character and Garrus just always turns into a bff. And I reject the way they pretty much fling Liara into your face every chance they get. I also think it's sweet what happens when you *don't* romance Garrus - provided you have Tali in the third game. I like Thane but ... eh. I just kinda feel there's way too much baggage and well then there's what happens in ME3. I am really not into angst. Yes, I know, why am I romancing Solas then. I don't do the Solas romance for the angst, I do it because I just really like his character (and the voice) and I have hope that the ending will be ... not rainbows and unicorns but at the very least something I can look at and think, yeah it was worth it.

Albeit with Thane it's more literal since he's only in half the game before kicking it.
Also do you know how awkward it is to try and date Kaidan and Thane at the same time? You walk into the hospital to see one sick boyfriend and the other sick boyfriend's right outside! They talk to each other even! I like Thane but ... eh. I just kinda feel there's way too much baggage and well then there's what happens in ME3. I am really not into angst. I always got the opposite impression, since I see so many people saying some variation of "I just want Solas and Lavellan to have a happy ending." I guess they might have come on board for the angst but still hope for it all to work out. Me, I got my eye on Solas waaaay back before Inquisition came out and they said he was a giant lonely magic nerd. I kept saying I'd go for Cullen and was just making an elven Inquisitor to test the waters with Solas - you know, just to make sure he's worth a whole 'nother play through. Just to make sure he's interesting enough. But I was totally going to make Cullen my main romance. Absolutely. Yeah that didn't work out.

Yeah, almost the same here except I didn't pay too much attention to the companions/advisors before the game came out. I knew the names and who was romanceable but not much other than that - well I knew who Cullen was because DAO and DA2. So I started playing a human female with the intent to romance Cullen. It was the poor guy's third game, I figured he needed some happiness. But I kept talking to Solas and my immediate reaction was, I like this guy ... I really like this guy ... ok that's it I have to make an elven female to romance him I just have to. I forced myself to finish the human playthrough and thus knew who Solas actually was before going in but that really just made me want to see how the romance itself changed the ending. It didn't change the end but by then it was too late. I really can't romance anyone else in DAI now. I tried with a human male and Cassandra and I got through most of the romance there but I just can't finish that playthrough (I hope Colonelkillabee doesn't see this).

Here's the tweet I'm thinking of: I hope that link worked. Yes, thanks. It's fine that he can't promise, I just wanted confirmation that it was (1) post-Trespasser, and (2) for the future. Even though I don't have any investment in the pairing, that statement says something significant about the Inquisitor's possible involvement in the next game, which is why I find it valuable.

Cullen would be the perfect guy who is cute and good to you. Later really soft and wanna marry u. I really enjoyed this romance and I wanted to Do it again until I got stuck in this solavellan hell. I guess that this romance is not over yet is One of the many reasons why we love it. I guess ppl like drama angst whatever. I really hate lying in bed thinking of them what could have should have But on the other side i love it because it really gives Me this immense feeling again ...cheering for an OTP.... I just feel like a ping pong Ball. Sorry for my weird two cents xD

I also like the Solas romance not for its angst but for its other characteristics. I knew even before the game came out that Blackwall and Solas were the romances I was most interested in trying. They're both older men, and I'm in my 40s myself so I appreciated seeing older people in a game. Blackwall had the whole self-sacrificing grey warden thing going for him until, you know... And in truth my first (and never finished) playthrough was with a Trevelyan rogue who romanced Blackwall - simply because I had tried a few of the origins in DAO and enjoyed the Cousland one the most (really didn't enjoy either city elf or Dalish elf origins, to be honest... please don't throw rotten tomatoes at me!) So I figured I'd be happiest playing a human again for DAI. (This is weird because in my early tabletop RPG life I really liked being able to play elves more than humans.) Anyway due to computer issues I had to put the Trevelyan playthrough on hold for months and then when I had a new computer I didn't want to continue that one, so I started all over with Faolchu Ban with the intent of romancing Solas. That was a year ago, so the Dread Wolf reveal had already been spoiled for me. I admit I was curious how that would play out but Solas had been the other romance I'd been interested in before the game even was released so his being a god wasn't really a draw for me.
Aside from his age I really liked his intelligence. IRL I do like kind, gentle, confident nerds like he seems to be for most of the game. And a lot of what he says in his banters really appealed to me. I liked that he challenges the Inquisitor to think for themselves etc. A man like Solas pre-reveal would be a pretty ideal guy for me in real life. ^-^ I really liked how respectful he is of a friendly Inquisitor; it's hard not to return that respect to Solas in game. So, I feel like my Lavellan (who was also a little older - I figure she was in her late 20s at the beginning of Inquisition and is now in her 30s) and Solas really were a *match* - until the end of Trespasser, it felt like they had an equal partnership built on respect and shared interests. And I didn't find Solas' occasional evasiveness to be over-the-top angsty. Similarly, I felt his uncertainty about starting a relationship with someone new was a reasonable depiction of a person who already has experienced a lot of what life can throw your way and who has had some difficult relationships in the past.
tl;dr I like that Patrick Weekes presented Solas as a fully fleshed out person rather than any sort of caricature. He made it easy to care for Solas.

Oh..Kaidan is my favorite. I always romance him in the first game, romance Thane in the second and go back to Kaidan in the third. I did romance Garrus once. I had to kill Kaidan to do it. NEVER AGAIN. I love Garrus..and the romance was so sweet, I love their tango..hehe. But killing, Kaidan..no! That was heartbreaking. And if I don't kill Kaidan he's just too irresistible, I can't romance anyone else....lol. Oh...hi Solas I'm the same, I only romanced Kaidan in all 3 games, I wanted to try Jack on ME2 but she's straight and I was playing femshep! That and the fact that I like marry one LI and then cant romance anyone else! Like Cullen looks pretty good but I could never cheat on Solas (even if we are going through some stuff right now )
