I understand the feels. My first DA game ever, I had no clue what I was in for. My city elf fell for Alistair hard; too hard to make him be something he didn't want to be (King) and definitely too hard to let him die. So DR all the way for me too. When I listen to the song, I try to imagine a play through where my PC chooses to soul kerplode with the Archdemon, leaving Alistair behind ( to be either king or GW). It hurts. I still can't get over my very DA:O first playthrough, where Alistair dumped my poor elf mage. I was so mad, it's actually funny now I did cheat, I must admit. 3/4 of the way through the game, I realized that I cared too much about all the stuff going on not to look online. I'd already gone and visited his sister, and I'd been comforting. So, I learned that I had "kept him soft." When I googled what that meant, I found a chart that gave Landsmeet outcomes. And I was like, whelp! Guess he is staying a Grey Warden because i'm an elf and can't be Queen! Finished that play through, rolled a Cousland, and I made that Queen thing happen. Both play throughs are meaningful to me. My first PT was a tad self insert; I wouldn't force a lover into a job they frequently stated they wanted to avoid. So I think of that outcome very lovingly. Alistair and Elf, optimistically looking forward to being Grey Wardenzs together. I RPed my Cousland as very power focused so she could seek her vengeance on Howe; it was super fun and the story went perfectly. She was definitely wearing the pants in that relationship. Then lots of folks bad mouth Alistair for all the bad things he could do... but I've never seen them, so lalalalalalalala
On Topic: Solas related. The more I research Solas, the more I see why people think Cullen may be too sweet for them. If Solas really hit the spot for you, Cullen's romance is far too straightforward, hmm? I was pondering looking into all the things he approves/disapproves to really comb through what each opinion tells you about the man himself. He's still a mystery, obviously.

It is possible it is elven. When you are battling Corypheus you see a Mythal mosaic on the floor and there are statues of her in the Haven Chantry if you use flycam. I knew about mosaics, but statues of Mythal? So it confirms that the Temple of Sacred Ashes was Mythal's property. I wonder, if Skyhold was really the place where "the sky was held", and it's not far from ToSA, that Solas used infrastructure which before belonged to Mythal, even used it with her blessing. I was replaying Trespasser recently and in Dread Wolf sanctuary (the place with vallaslin removal fresco) there are mosaics of other Evanuris, of course it can be simply a design choice, like the abundance of elven wolf statures, well everywhere. But considering that in dev notes the Orb is attributed to Mythal (which could change during the developing process, but lets assume that not), could she (even unofficially) assign Fen'harel as her heir? We know that she was voice of reason and often resolved petty disputes between other Evanuris and "she cared for her people, she protected them" as Solas says. Heck the priests from the Well know the secret password to the sanctuary! My tinfoil hat theory is that Mythal supported Fen'harel rebelion, provided him infrastructure, power (the orb) and it might be the reason that she was killed by her peers. Thank you illyriaMy Lavellan's face is the biggest self insert I ever manged to do in a game (gotta love the CC), so I will take it as compliment. I made the jammies retexture months ago and somehow I still haven't posted it on Nexus. I guess I should finally do it. That what it looks like in full non beige glory: I even made it fully tintable

That outfit is lovely AND it doesn't have gloves or weird stuff that would create butt grab wrist clipping issues. I want it! Drop us a link when you post your mod. I'm totally jealous of your work. I made custom recolors for Sims 2 and KOTOR 2, but I have no clue about making DAI mods. I want to make Lavellan a comfy sweater to match her beau. Maybe I will gather myself and finally do it. The main issue for me it's is that I have to do separate .daimod file for every different skin tone (there are 11 I think) because of the naked shoulders. But I promise it will be posted this week. Well I learned DAI modding from this tutorial. It's about creating custom complexions but it's the same principle. All what you need is Photoshop (gimp, but I haven't used that since I was 12), the plugin which allows to open and save .dds, the DAI modmaker and the resource library (you can simply use other DAI assets). Getting used to DAI modmaker can take time, but eventually everything becomes clear. The retexturing is more like photo manipulating than painting, and I have one base principle - whatever you paint photo is still better. I use my scanned clothing as resources, but you could use google images and DAI resources as well. The plugin that allows reading .dds can also generate normal maps, but always use original normal map as a base and generated normals as additions. And the most importantly - use layer modifications, the shadow is your best friend. I know my advices are a little messy, but if you have any specific questions then ask.

If I stare at something an draw/erase/draw/erase etc, I can get a pretty good likeness. But freestyling? Not even. It's so weird, because I can even see images in my head drawn in pencil strokes as if I'd just done it. Like shading and all that. But without being able to see it with my actual eyeballs, it's a fail. I want a Dorian kissing my Fem Quiz's forehead real bad. That might surprise you but this is actually a very common issue. I have the "vision" type of art procress but I know this very good friend who attends art school that doesn't, and let me tell you he's still the most art-passionate person I've met so far and his stuff is really good. It's not a fatality ! He explained me how he rolls : Basically, references. Stock references EVERYWHERE. His art mostly comes with composition, colouring, effects and shadows. Also random experimentations. And the stuff turns out so precious and creative omg He's got this rawness I will never achieve because I need to plan everything from the start in the "vision". There are downsides and upsides to both roads but there's definitely always a way to dig your own path through your own hill. Even if you would be the only one with your specific configuration, that's what makes you special ! All you've got to do is to find out how to efficiently make great use out of it. And often that comes with time and getting used to stuff, discovering the things you're comfortable with and those with you're not, etc. Hope I'm helpful, but this is it : everyone can do their own stuff, that's why art is so amazing, it belongs to people, all of them.

Beautifully said. I know little about art/drawing myself, but I love hearing people talk about their craft who are clearly very passionate about it. And what you said applies to creativity of all kinds, I think.

I'd love to make fan art, but all the many art classes I took in high school screwed me up. They were too darn focused on photo realism (which I suck at). They were obsessed with us perfecting blending techniques and crap, but they never encouraged us to do 100% original work from our own brains...except for sculpture. Strangely enough, my sculptures were the only things that came out the way I wanted them to. Working from references was how I was taught, but it doesn't really work for me. I passed two different versions of AP art exam, but 10+ years later I still haven't worked up the nerve to finish and post a fan drawing (although I did make a plushy of Reaver from Fable II...which is sorta fan art). When I do finally finish something I'll be sure to post it here. I could use encouragement, and I know you guys are all a lot more positive than the tiny critic in my head. I know I'm kind of jumping in here, but did we have the same art classes? Hehe. I took a few years of art and I learned was how to shade a basketball's shadow pretty darn well.. And mold a figure of a couple of animals together. I wish I could put that together and make something amazing but my options seem limited

Stick in the Mud floratheelf I had like 4 months of drawing classes and they were the W O R S T lol, I had to stop it because my parents were obviously wasting money on this. But I did get something out of it and it was : stop being scared of building sketchlines. You know, drawing circles and squares and stuff before the actual drawing. I never stopped since because it really helps getting composition, proportions and lenghts right. To anyone here : don't judge your ability to ever manage to do anything art related over such matter. Sometimes art classes are good and sometimes they aren't, because they're provided by a human being and thus they have flaws (sometimes more than average for sure) and they will never fulfil everyone's need. I know very well the issues with low self-confidence but I will tell you this : you are BOUNDLESS (#vallaslin) So go for it, embrace it, and never let go before you're done (= never) ♥ Edit : tonight i bumped into this post and these screencaps i swear... it's... Practicing realism is actually very important, because realism is a foundation on which ALL of the styles are built.
You have to know how something is built, how shapes and shadows or anatomy works to later build our own thing on top of it. I'm most definitely grateful for having to learn that hard lesson in my art school, though I also do know from experience that having teachers who sneer at 'freestyle' or 'stylistic' drawings can be incredibly daunting. I've had a year when I was dragging my feet to each class because I couldn't really stand the professor and his approach, and a year when I was staying past classes hours, long in the night, because my other professor was a good teacher as well as very accepting of our own excursions into our head and style exploration.

The Descent after you set the explosives and establish the first camp. You're welcome. I think whoever is in the first party member slot gives the smile (someone correct me if I'm wrong) so Solas would need to be in that first party member slot.

Omg our boyfriend is... so perfect T_T I can't get over it, never, ever Practicing realism is actually very important, because realism is a foundation on which ALL of the styles are built. You have to know how something is built, how shapes and shadows or anatomy works to later build our how thing on top of it. I'm most definitely grateful for having to learn that hard lesson in my art school, though I also do know from experience that having teachers who sneer at 'freestyle' or 'stylistic' drawings can be incredibly daunting. I've had a year when I was dragging my feet to each class because I couldn't really stand the professor and his approach, and a year when I was staying past classes hours, long in the night, because my other professor was a good teacher as well as very accepting of our own excursions into our head and style exploration. at the local art school in my town there's this teacher who simply won't allow figurative art at all. Her reaction is said to be "It's mickey mouse." to every single figurative art. Abstract of get the hell out. She is an important teacher for 1st years students there and the major reason for drop outs (and why i didn't try attempt the entrance exam) teachers really have a HUGE impact on everything blfjzemo, it's always the same Also, that trap would TOTALLY work! I headcanon that he gets the cake and manage to escape anyway XD But I thought of the possibility of him being trapped in a skyhold cell in the bonus pannel because he just couldn't resist and fell for it despite the OBVIOUSNESS and he KNOWS but it's CAKE and omg IT'S CAKE Pick one

I was listening to some audio recently and it was about why did Bioware pick Solas as one of the romance options. Mike Laidlaw said basically it was because it was affordable (because it was only with female elves) and thematic (packs a punch to the feels). Then later, Patrick Weekes said he wanted to humanize Solas and not have people see him as "just the villain". In a different recording, he said it was to make everything seem sadder (or something along those lines). I'm sure you guys have heard that before. I guess I was just wondering if you guys think they're happy with their decision to make him a romance option instead of trying to humanize him through a different way. It seems like the people in charge of the creative process seem exasperated when asked about Solas from us (you know his healthy and not crazy obsessive followers... heh.. heh). I would think they would be happy with how much it affected the fans, but then do you think they now have a much bigger hurdle to jump for the franchise? Or does it not matter? Just curious. Don't mind me.

Don't mind me. Idk but seriously as writers and creators in general, this turned out as a huge success, they can be super proud with what they did here. Even if it will probably only make things more difficult for the next game, it was so worth it for them and for us. I'm so glad it's here, even if i don't have feels for anything else anymore. It made me be alive again. I can never thank enough. Now people might disagree and it's ok that's my opinion. I'm not very hard to impress with writing, so !
