onmanye , Weeks said that he wrote the Solas romance by himself, not as part of the project, and when they got the extra year he tossed the papers on Laidlaw's desk and asked him if they could make this romance happen. Laidlaw was affirmative, if this was gated for only one gender and race. I read discussions that theorized that Solas romance was one of last things that was done. That would explain why most of the romance scenes were stuffed behind friendship ones, and that this romance has least content (Cullen romance was added in the extra year yet it has considerable amount of content). I'm more than happy of how it came out to be. I wouldn't enjoy Inquisition, as much as I do now. And don't forget that in the last year other races were added. I CAN'T imagine myself playing as human. I remember that someone in Bioware said that they would be excited to do a game with dual protagonists (something like Witcher 3 with Ciri and Geralt). I can't imagine DA4 (if it will something similar to our speculation) without Inquisitor. I think it would be a considerable waste if they wouldn't exploit inqy-Solas dynamic. Whether fans love or hate him they want to kill/redeem him. And Inquistion was one of most profitable games of Bioware so we will see...

Amburu - I agree and am thankful too for what they gave us. I just wonder if bringing up the romance part in the next game will make it too complicated and therefore won't put much of it in (or any of it). You know? Jisandra - That would be interesting to have dual protagonists. I'm just not sure how it would work and if I would like it. The Bioware team is so good though. Anything they put out, I'm sure I will love. I agree that it seems like it would be a waste if they don't put more content about the Solavellan relationship in the next game.

Also, if I remember right they said on some convention, that they try to animate an character with missing limbs. (After release, so they didn't talk about Bull) Also, I agree. Bringing Quiz back doesn't have anything to do with the romance. Lost of ppl who haven't romanced him say that they are not done with him, and it should be Quiz who deals with the "Solas Situation"...

Mike Laidlaw said basically it was because it was affordable (because it was only with female elves) and thematic (packs a punch to the feels). Then later, Patrick Weekes said he wanted to humanize Solas and not have people see him as "just the villain". In a different recording, he said it was to make everything seem sadder (or something along those lines). I'm sure you guys have heard that before. I guess I was just wondering if you guys think they're happy with their decision to make him a romance option instead of trying to humanize him through a different way. It seems like the people in charge of the creative process seem exasperated when asked about Solas from us (you know his healthy and not crazy obsessive followers... heh.. heh). I would think they would be happy with how much it affected the fans, but then do you think they now have a much bigger hurdle to jump for the franchise? Or does it not matter? Just curious. Don't mind me. If Patrick is worried about us seeing him as something more than just the villain, I'm really worried about how much of a goddamn bastard he's going to be in the next game. At the same time I'm incredibly excited.

Anything they put out, I'm sure I will love. I agree that it seems like it would be a waste if they don't put more content about the Solavellan relationship in the next game. Ideal outcome would be - 70% of the game we are new protagonist, the normal person, yet charismatic and keen leader, interacting with new party members (it would be a good opportunity to do the merry bunch of misfits DA2 style) and doing mostly side quests and setting the main quests. The 30% of the game we are Inqy and it's mostly cutscens (talks with advisors style), it doesn't mater if Inquisition was disbanded or kept because regardless of that we are dealing with Solas undercover. It would be still good if it was 90% to 10%. The Solavellan content isn't as hard to implement as it would appear. It could be easily stuffed on the top of friendship path. Like in Trespasser. The final confrontation is another matter, yet the Weekes is the lead writer now, and his content was always my favourite pat of games, Mass Effect 3 spoiler Mordin's death on Tuchanka was the first time that game made me cry And I'm ready to rely on him. Yaslana - Bioware has a history of being minority friendly. If they would portray disabled protagonist yet being competent fighter they would have massive good feedback. And imagine that it could be upgraded just like Bianka. I'm already hedcanonig my Lavellan with cool, lyrium infused prosthetic hand-staff.

Ok, this is what Patrick Weekes actually says from the first recording I listened to, "Well, I think it would have been really easy for Solas to just come off as too much of a villain. And I really tried to take every step that I could to humanize him. And part of that was making him more emotionally available in that way. Um, and showing that he really, genuinely cared about you. Um, and the other members of the Inquisition. Uh, it’s one of the reasons he has such a close relationship with Cole, it’s one of the reasons, uh, that he, y'know, is so respectful of Cassandra even if he disagrees with her about a lot of things and it’s one of the reasons that we decided to make him a romance."

Oh yes, I'd love a double protagonist for DA:4 I always love getting to know new characters and companions, but my Lavellan just needs to get closure. I'll copy-paste an old tumblr post that explains why she needs to come back and be the one to confront Solas. It’s funny, because after playing Trepsasser, I feel like Ainur’Len’s story has just begun.
After being told her whole life to follow someone else’s dreams, to put aside her wishes just to do the right thing. But what is the right thing? To become Keeper of her clan, despite just wanting to be a story teller? To rebuild the Inquisition, earning the title of Herald of Andraste, putting her faith aside?
She never wanted this. She kept wiping the blood off her hands, joking, shrugging. She recruited people, earning their faith, but never trusting her own words.
Why? Is this the right thing? She kept asking herself that. She let Solas take away her Vallaslin hoping that it would lift at least one burden off her shoulders.
She made friends, she met the most important people in her life, her companions. They made her fall in love with this world by exploring Thedas and getting lost in ancient ruins that once belonged to her people. She had someone to protect, so she just accepted her responsibilities.
But she never felt free.
After she loses her arm and the mark, after swallowing the truth about the old legends and about the person she loves the most, things begin to become more clear. To become true.
This is when it hits her. She realizes one thing: this is her mission. Her duty. HERS. She chose it, against everyone else. She’ll get to Solas, knock some sense into him, redeem him, stop him and save the fricking world again. Because she kinda likes it. For the first time in her life, she chose what she wants to be, what she wants to do.
I need to see her again, play her again. I can’t let go of her knowing that she just found her way, knowing that whatever happens, her smile is free, and her duty feels right. Pls bioware. Make it happen.

The only time that Bioware didn't make me feel the feelz TM was the Fenris death by my hands (I will anger his fans, but he was so indifferent to me). As for Solas being more human (elfier?) by being romance I agree. Being his friend allows as to see his personality where he doesn't pretend to be someone, whether he pretends to be ancient elven god rebel, or that modern thedosians aren't people. And that he has adorable giggle-snort type of laugh. But by romancing him we enter on even higher level. It's more personal for players, he isn't just another friend the is THE special someone. After reading drake 's comment - I felt that being Inquisitor for my Lavellan was role that was imposed on her, but when she declares Solas that "var lath vir suledin!" and then she stabs the Tevinter map, it's something she is doing by herself, that she is agent of her own again.

It is possible it is elven. When you are battling Corypheus you see a Mythal mosaic on the floor and there are statues of her in the Haven Chantry if you use flycam. I knew about mosaics, but statues of Mythal? So it confirms that the Temple of Sacred Ashes was Mythal's property. I wonder, if Skyhold was really the place where "the sky was held", and it's not far from ToSA, that Solas used infrastructure which before belonged to Mythal, even used it with her blessing. I was replaying Trespasser recently and in Dread Wolf sanctuary (the place with vallaslin removal fresco) there are mosaics of other Evanuris, of course it can be simply a design choice, like the abundance of elven wolf statures, well everywhere. But considering that in dev notes the Orb is attributed to Mythal (which could change during the developing process, but lets assume that not), could she (even unofficially) assign Fen'harel as her heir? We know that she was voice of reason and often resolved petty disputes between other Evanuris and "she cared for her people, she protected them" as Solas says. Heck the priests from the Well know the secret password to the sanctuary! My tinfoil hat theory is that Mythal supported Fen'harel rebelion, provided him infrastructure, power (the orb) and it might be the reason that she was killed by her peers. Thank you illyria My Lavellan's face is the biggest self insert I ever manged to do in a game (gotta love the CC), so I will take it as compliment. I made the jammies retexture months ago and somehow I still haven't posted it on Nexus. I guess I should finally do it. That what it looks like in full non beige glory: I even made it fully tintable When you talk to Harritt in the Undercroft he tells you the place was made for something big. Maybe the Veil's creation? And if you have a bad relationship with Solas in Trespasser, he tells you Skyhold was his.

How does one keep up with this thread? Guys, does anyone know where I could find all the Solas/Inquisitor conversations? I mean, as text? I have found Solas/Inquisition Members dialogues here: dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Solas/Dialogue Is there anything like that for Solas/Inqy conversations (perfectly with all the dialogue options?)? i'm trying to get caught up on the thread, so apologies if this has already been answered. I don't have a complete Solas/Inquisitor conversation transcript but I have a strong start on one for Solas and a romanced Lavellan. It's 68 pages long... Could share if there is a convenient place to post it without giving out personal info or other access to strangers. If you know of place like imgur except for text, please let me know and I can post what I've got there. That would be great, thank you for proposing it! I don't know anything about that kind of websites however... There is Media Fire that Melbella suggested below, but I don't know how exactly does it work.. It would be very helpful, but it you don't know of any websites that would meet your requirements , then don't worry i'm trying to get caught up on the thread, so apologies if this has already been answered. You can upload docs there, and give others access as well. Thank you for the suggestion melbella Was watching the Punching Solas Video. Realizes the reason he is so angry at the "Herald of Andraste" is because he/she is doing exactly what the "Elven Gods" did. Someday, I will play the game, listen, and read enough to understand it all... it seems so obvious now. I made an hour long loop version too lol I am amused that so many people asked for an Hour of it? It WAS pretty highly requested lol omg you guys leave Solas alone lol Old OP erased and replaced with the beacon. People who read this and freak out about the erasure of that contents refer to this post. It's like, real now. I'm so sad. Don't be sad Solas... You have done a great job guiding your people here.. Something ends, something new begins.. Lavellan doesn't care that Solas is the Dread Wolf Comic Yes, THIS! Lavellan doesn't care that Solas is the Dread Wolf Comic Oh I love this! I had to read it several times! Lavellan doesn't care that Solas is the Dread Wolf Comic Love this comic! "Well, nobody's perfect!" is a perfect Solavellan motto. That line's also straight out of the end of Some Like It Hot. I sometimes question my own eagerness to overlook the flaws of those I love. That's certainly going to get me and/or my Lavellan into trouble at some point. Thank you Lethallans Here is the tumblr versionFluffy artwork delivery, Iethallins, Iethallans. Just finished ♥ tumblr linkThat is so sweet You are really good with expressions and showing emotions! And your comic was adorable and funny. Whenever I see how good people are with all the Dragon Age art, I am just floored. It's SO good! It makes me wish I could art. Seriously though, how are people SO good? I'm the same - I envy people their skill to draw anything they can imagine I have so many ideas for fanart, by unfortunately my skills are my limitations :/ so frustrating..

Then I get pissed off that he doesn't get to punch back! (Editing to add: But I guess he has far worse plans for humanity *cough*).

roselavellan - In his disapproval scene he kind of admits that he feels no remorse for destroying Thedas, if he hate the Inquisitor. He says - "Now I know I was right <Thedosians being nonpersons>. You have no idea what a comfort that is." So punching Solas is not the preferable action. Man, why can't you just love Solas? Come on people! And Patric Weekes himself is pretty proud of creating Solas. In recent interviews he always mentions him as example of good writing (so humble, I love you Weekes). And I suppose Solas is one of reasons why he particularly was promoted as a lead writer.

In a recent presentation about the creative process involved in Trespasser, PW and another guy, said how another member of their team on Dragon Age is Solasmancer Prime so everything had to satisfy her with regard to how they dealt with the romance because they would never hear the end of it if they didn't. (I'm paraphrasing here but that is the impression I got). Now I don't know if Solasmancer Prime was involved in the initial decision to make Solas a romance but I'm guessing she may well have been one of those who wanted to romance him, so it probably didn't hurt to have someone on the team arguing the case for it.
I know it was also revealed at some point, I think by PW, that Solas was originally going to be more like the Dalish view of him as a trickster, with him being a much less sympathetic character anyway. So then having decided to change the approach to the character in general, someone probably suggested going a bit further and making him a romance just to add that extra element.

I have some Solases from my newest adventure, as well. One moment, he looks like this: And then this abomination appears when I turn my back for few minutes! It's nightmare fuel, be warned.
