I've been deep into FFXIV myself too, was drawn out of a long self imposed relationship hiatus by the now love of my life (sorry Solas). I'm still hyped for the new FFXIV expansion, it'll help with the wait for DAV.
Cyberpunk 2077 used up ALOT of my time in recent years too. But here I am, I hath also returned to the fort of blankets, I'm still gonna save tf out of that egg! I owe it to Lavellan.

The gameplay trailer was enough to convince me that my love sick Lavellan is definitely the one I am going to use on my first run. I owe it to her (and me) after putting her through the wringer in DAI and Trespasser. Now I just have to settle on my Rook. I'm still undecided whether they should be male or female and which faction I should choose, wanting more information on the Veil Jumpers and an idea of what the benefits and drawbacks might be in terms of abilities. The same holds true of which class I go for. I need more information. One thing about Solas though, at least I know where we stand with him. Can't see him supporting the evil gods and would they really fall for him trying to fool them a second time? I still wonder about him absorbing Mythal, though, and whether that is going to come back to bite him (and us). Still, she wanted revenge on them and it looks like she's going to get it.

I want to see the drama between an Inquisitor who is trying to redeem Solas and a Rook who just wants to take him down. Oh the possibilities lol This is where I'm at. It doesn't matter to me what I think about Solas or his morality, I care about what my characters think. One of the reasons I'm not hung up on why the Inquisitor isn't personally hunting and confronting Solas, is because my (non-romantic/human) Inq knows she's too biased and softhearted when it comes to her former comrade and needs people who are more objective doing what needs to be done (I went with "redeem him... IF we can" in Trespasser). So I hope DAV allows me to play a Rook who's taking a harder, less sympathetic, more objective tack with Solas. And hey, maybe Rook goes too far in Inq's eyes, with being harder and more objective? I find being able to roleplay looking at Solas with fresh eyes, without any of the mixed emotional baggage of DAI, one of the exciting prospects of the game.

She handed over the Inquisition to Cassandra and then had a bit of a break down. I could almost imagine Harding and Varric saying "What do you want us to do when we catch up with him?" Lavellan: "I don't know" (Bursts into tears for the umpteenth time). Harding rolls her eyes and looks to Varric. "I guess we're just going to have to wing it." To be honest, I don't think anyone should blame Rook for the situation. Solas needed stopping and no one else seemed to have a better idea. Neve could have argued a bit more forcefully why disrupting the ritual might end badly but she didn't. They might have released a couple of dangerous evil old gods but, looking on the bright side, the world didn't end, so Rook did good. Onwards and upwards my friend.

Did we ever learn the reason he feels the Veil needs to come down and things need to be changed/destroyed? Because all these years later, I feel like that is the sticking point for my Lavellan. You feel the world needs to end as it is? Fine, whatever, but you owe us all the full and actual story, you dum-dum.
Not that the larger goal isn't to stop that happening, or to find a way to make it all co-exist and end whatever problems are getting in the way. But for real, the secrecy about it is nonsensical when we've gotten to this point.

Did we ever learn the reason he feels the Veil needs to come down and things need to be changed/destroyed? Short answer is that he doesn't like what he created and now wants to put it back the way it was. However, I do feel there is more to it than that but he just won't talk. I'm convinced the Blight has something to do with it but why he couldn't say as much is anyone's guess. If he survives the encounter with his old pals (enemies - I'm being sarcastic) perhaps this time he'll finally decide to tell us. At the very least perhaps he'll explain who they are so we know what we're dealing with. I have a feeling he may be assisting us at least to begin with and that is how we get to use the eluvian network. He left the one open between Minrathous and Arlathan but he might need to shut it down temporarily to avoid the other two using it. Of course, they may have their own pass keys. Otherwise, we're going to be stuck in Arlathan in the short term. However, that is where we're likely to encounter Bellara.

I’m trying to remember - the murals in Trespasser. Did any show Solas with hair?
I’m curious because in the Discord Q&A (still ongoing at the moment), someone asked if Solas was still bald (Wat?) and the answer actually gave some new lore insight - that he is still bald, but that elves all go naturally bald after they have lived for a millennia, and that he may have had quite the locks before. LOL

Also main story theme is "regret": how do you deal with it, live with it, and move past it.
Feel like that could heavily be about Rook and/or Solas or both, ideally. Can we commiserate together about crazy gods on the loose now? LOL

LOL I can't think of any portrayal of Solas with hair in past games, no - and this also explains why all the mosaics of other Evanuris shows them as bald too (or why all the Sentinels were bald) It also means that when Solas rebelled against Evanuris he was no spring chicken either.

Also main story theme is "regret": how do you deal with it, live with it, and move past it. Don't forget in the Tevinter Nights story Callback, the demon they had to deal with in the Rotunda at Skyhold was Regret and manifested there because that was where Solas had been. It was a very big powerful demon as a result. Sutherland and his friends defeated it by focusing on what they didn't regret, joining the Inquisition, finding one another, etc.

that he may have had quite the locks before. LOL There was some mention by someone (was it a You tuber who was at the demo?) that the 15 minute demo missed some parts before we go to Arlathan, including a section in the catacombs at Minrathous where there are old elven murals which I think they said featured Fen'Harel. All the self portraits and others we saw in his sanctuary had his head covered so we couldn't see whether he had hair or not but perhaps these do.

It would seem they've changed their minds on that and decided it was simpler to go with being millennia old after all.

Btw. when they said that "This is spoilery, but let me just say Rook has some real good reasons to avoid blood magic" by that they mean that he has the same/similar reasons to avoid blood magic as Solas did.

Something that's been on my mind lately that I don't recall if it's ever been addressed/spoken about in-game, but outside of the murals, it seems like Solas is only ever depicted with the wolf statues. All the other Evanuris have actual elven form statues, it would seem. Curious as to him being the outlier in that regard.

Perhaps it has something to do with "an insult turned into a badge of pride" - the propaganda kept portraying him in animalistic forms in order to imply he's savage, dangerous and 'lesser', but he's embraced it as something that differentiated him from portrayals of other gods (which are either figures or abstract symbols)

From the Q&A today:
Question: “Will the Inquisitor be appearing in the flesh, or are we just choosing their major DAI decisions?”
Corinne: “Yes. They will. The Inky does appear. We know how attached you all are to the Inquisitor and seen the love for your OC. Yes, the Inquisitor shows up. Now, we already confirmed that in a few places so let me just say you can also customize them, include some of our new customization options. Yeah, they’re going to show up and they’re going to be your Inquisitor.”
John Epler: “And I think beyond that, this story of Solas and this story of the Inquisitor are obviously are tied together as much as any story, so it would’ve been strange for us not to bring them in for this one. They are going to be a part of this story, so…”
So all you Solas lovers will get some interactions with them.
