Seeing this image makes me think that a "Last Flight" type novel set during the last days of Elvhenan would be great to read... although I suppose knowing more about Ancient Elvhenan might ruin the mystique and mystery surrounding it and precisely what happened? I'm partly afraid of that. I mean, can Arlathan live up to my expectations at this point? Maybe, but maybe not. It doesn't help that I picture a visual aestethic I have yet to see Bioware capable of. Maybe Square-Enix could pull it off, with their experience with crystals and the whole Final Fantasy aestethic they have going, but Dragon Age hasn't really translated whimsical architecture like "spires of crystal" and "cities on clouds" into anything beyond concept art before. Its rare for even the more restrained concept art to get translated directly into the game.
Well, the areas in Descent looked pretty sparkly, imo, and there were poofy underground clouds. Based on the new vid out for MEA, sparkly is still a thing. Also, those moving platforms in the vid reminded me of the paths in the Crossroads.

That's a good point tho- I hadn't considered limitations of da game engines when it comes to showing arlathan as it is supposed to be. This was one of the main disappointments I had with Inception. If Cobb and Mal and supposedly spent 10,000 years of subjective real time playing around and creating things in Limbo... why was it so boring to look at? It was just a regular city, all grey, everything was in a grid with just their small unique looking house in the middle of it. If I had an aeon to mess around with dream physics in limbo, the place would have been Fade levels of weird, filled with floating islands, buildings in the clouds, an upside-down whirlpool stretching up to the sky from the ocean... something that shows creativity? Even if the excuse in Inception is that without them there the place was starting to collapse back into nothingness, it still looked really dull to look at.

I'm dying for any DA news at all *sigh*. I really really like ME, don't get me wrong. I even liked the original ending, which is heresy! I guess. But I Love DA. I love Thedas and the characters so friggin' much. DA gets me. It's my jam. My husband is the opposite, he loves ME more. He is wrong.

Oh don't get me wrong.. I love Mass Effect, I've just been in a Dragon Age zone since Inquisition came out..lol. Plus it's hard to get excited about a game we pretty much know nothing about. I'll probably get more excited when 2017 comes. This is me too. I loved the Mass Effect trilogy, but since DAI I just can't get hyped for a new ME game. I don't care. I'm stuck in Dragon Age mode. I may get the I wants for Andromeda after it's released, but since all the characters will be new there really isn't anything drawing me in yet. It's odd. Previously I was a much bigger ME fan than DA fan. Sci-fi is much more my scene, but Inquisition changed everything. I'm the same way. I love Mass Effect too. But I'll need something a more to get me a bit more excited about Andromeda. And yes, I'm still pretty stuck on Dragon Age mode as well. And I guess the fact that I generally enjoy fantasy RPGs more than Sci-Fi games might also be the reason why as well. Also, regarding Garrus, yes he IS awesome but like Elessara, I see Garrus as my Shep's BFF. I couldn't see him as anything more than that.

I couldn't do the romance. He was my BFF, I didn't want it to be ruined. Finally bit the bullet and did it one week before ME3 came out. I was playing on a new system and wanted to get the romance trophy. I was pleasantly surprised and pleased with how it played out. I felt the romance complimented the relationship they already had very nicely. I don't play femshep a lot, but Garrus became my favorite ME romance. Bringing this around to Solas to stay on topic, a similar scenario happened for me with him. My Inquisitor became friends with Solas right quick my first time through the game. I liked the friendship that developed--Solas was my Brolas--and was kinda worried the romance might kill that. But I knew Weekes had written him and I felt he did an excellent job handling the Garrus romance. Jumped into Solavellan hell my third playthrough. #NoRagerts Dammit, Weekes.

I'm avoiding ME at all costs now, my heart is so full with dragon age there's absolutely no room left for anything at all but I'm sure it's great and stuff, and i'll probably try it out if i get done with DA one day in the distant future, + whatever PC i'm going to have then, it's going to make it flow the damn 30-60 fps at last !! Solas is safe with my interest for now ♥ and for a long time

He may not be traditionally good-looking, but he's a damn fine guy! Also (and I do not say this to hurt anyone's feelings) I would advice you to stay away from Jacob. It's nothing I have against the character, it's just... trust me on this one.

Oh..Kaidan is my favorite. I always romance him in the first game, romance Thane in the second and go back to Kaidan in the third. I did romance Garrus once. I had to kill Kaidan to do it. NEVER AGAIN. I love Garrus..and the romance was so sweet, I love their tango..hehe. But killing, Kaidan..no! That was heartbreaking. And if I don't kill Kaidan he's just too irresistible, I can't romance anyone else....lol. Oh...hi Solas

Jacob's scenario was pretty unique for a Bioware romance, but it went into a rather... unexpected direction that I think most people wouldn't like to see their in-game romances go to. It was a realistic development, though. It has that going for it.

It's not that it's sad, but... well Mass Effect kind of plays favorites with some of the romances, let's say. And Jacob's was... not a favorite. It's definitely in no way comparable to Solas'.

I'm excited for MEA, if only because it will be something new to explore and play. I am hoping we will start to hear news about DA4 after it launches. Even if it's just teasers, anything that let's us know that they are working on it will satisfy me for now.

Thane's had the potential to be a serious competitor with Garrus and Kaidan had he been given far more content. He's definitely swoon worthy. It's nothing I have against the character, it's just... trust me on this one. Ffhmmm... Is it Solas-tier in the misery ? Oh lord, not even close. Solas' romance is poignant, handled appropriately for what I hear is sparse content compared to the others. Solas remains true to Lavellan even though he leaves her, treats her with respect and kindness while Jacob's extremely butchered script has him handwaving her off for being in prison as though it's a justification for cheating on her with a Cerberus employee who knew they were in a relationship and still went after him and then had the nerve to rub it in Shepard's face that Jacob's better off with her. ME2 Jacob would have kicked the snot out of ME3 Jacob. *ahem* so no, Solas is a tragic romance done correctly.

Thane is wonderful. I really would have liked to romance Thane, but... I think one heartbreak is enough for me. I romanced Kaidan in ME1, but since then I've come to see him as a little brother, I think I'll romance Liara if I go through ME1 again. How's her romance? Does she make you feel guilty if you move on in ME2? I'm very happy with my choices so far, and I am very glad to have Fenris and Garrus to distract me from the pain of Solas.

Liara's romance has the most in depth content but Liaramancers have complained that her character seems to flipflop back and forth on whether she remembers that Shepard and her are in a relationship. She requires repeated assurance that there's romantic feelings and her friendship content blurs with the romanctic, but it's still one of the most touching amongst the fanbase. Liara will take it well if you move on (she will mention any ME2 romance if you pick a paragon interrupt in Lair of the Shadow Broker.) She will, however, dump Shepard if two timed in ME3. Nothing dramatic, just a quiet, angry "I'm done with playing games" comment. She doesn't like being strung along.

Thane's had the potential to be a serious competitor with Garrus and Kaidan had he been given far more content. He's definitely swoon worthy. *Sigh* Don't remind me. I settle for Kaidan purely because the Thane romance is so low in content. I will never not be bitter about how they short-changed the ME2 romances - unless you romanced fan waifu Tali or fan husbando Garrus of course. I'll never not be bitter about that either. See my comment about BioWare playing favorites. "Oh, you romanced Jack or Thane or Miranda or Jacob? Well I hope you like five-minute long holo messages. Or being cheated on and dumped. Or having your boyfriend straight up die halfway through the game. But hey, go with Garrus or Tali and you might get a romance that the devs actually cared about!" At least with Dragon Age I seem to have a knack for throwing my hat in the most popular rings, with Solas and Alistair having pretty sizable fan bases. I'd hate to be a Blackwall fan right now, though. There's a romance that probably won't be getting much attention in subsequent games. Don't forget the baby they have. And then name after Shepard. Tact and self-awareness do not appear to be Jacob's strong suits. OR you can romance THANE and you should romance Thane because everyone romances Garrus and I'm so lonely with my sad frog dad *Sobs into pillow.* ...Interestingly, I hardly ever see any one bring up Kaidan anymore... Admit it, you just like guys whose names end in "S." ...In all seriousness, I feel like one of the reasons why I'm not too fond of Garrus' romance is BECAUSE it's too easy. That and, while ME2 did give him a bit more personality, I still feel like he's just the generic funny guy. Not much in his character that I can really get a hold of. Granted I feel like most of the ME1 companions suffer from being a bit on the bland side. And I still don't really care for the romances in DA2.
