I recall the devs mentioning somewhere that they've tried multiple hairstyles for Solas only to figure out that a 'bold, bald head' is a proper look for him. I assume there's a lore component to it (we see a lot of Sentinel in Temple of Mythal being bald), but also, it may have something with a certain popular show the protagonist of which made baldness 'fashionable' again, as well as easily identifiable with peaceful, meditative practices from the East (it really is no coincidence that Solas wears his wolf pelt over one shoulder, too): Of course they won't say "it was to much work for us". When we look at the hairstyles they give us for protagonist it's seems like very probable cause. Yeah.... no. Solas is too important of a character to be lazy about his design. Anyway, the problem with hairstyles for protagonists is that a lot of hairstyles have to fit many heads; both custom PC and NPCs filling the world, which requires a lot of adjusting and individual files for each race and gender. But all companion NPCs have custom hair - in fact every single detail about them is customized, so Solas's bald head is as much of a conscious decision as Blackwall's beard or Cassandra's rat-tail.

I seem to recall there was some concept art that showed him with hair but it would seem they decided to go with an ancient elf look that was universally bald. Whether deciding to make Solas bald came first and then the idea to make the rest of the ancient elves like him or whether the decision about Solas came off the back of deciding the generic look, it does at least make him and the other ancient elves distinctive from modern races.

Tinfoil: maybe Fade residents have a hard time "rendering" hair in universe. Maybe that's why most shades avoid human heads entirely. Desire demons have that glowing cone thing instead of hair. Some shades, like Cole, might have hair, but slap on a hat (or hood, for despair demons) to cover the confusing bits. Perhaps ancient elves decided "nah, too much work, let's just appear as bald". This is how you can tell that Imshael is a super powerful spirit, because he's created an accurate hair simulation for himself.

No, not yet. I just love british accents so much taht so far, all my characters were british. I heard Sumalees voice in videos though and she does do a good job too. Just thought, Alix always sounds so angry with Solas. I just did the quest, where Cole decides to become more human or more spirit - with another character, a human mage. I do understand, where Solas comes from, but I never can make Cole more spirit, I like him becoming more human I mostly make Cole more spirit. Somehow I had a feeling that it was making him more happy and fulfilled. Like when he was helping people in the tavern. I'm trying another approach this time. I wonder how much can I do despite Solas to not antagonize him and romance him. I make Cole always more human and I usually recruit the Grey Warden and Solas is still my buddy by the end of the game. The approval loss from making Cole more human isn't that big, I wouldn't worry

When we look at the hairstyles they give us for protagonist it's seems like very probable cause. Mike Laidlaw recently tweeted something about this... He pointed out that prior to DAI, there was exactly ONE game that had modeled hair in Frostbite. Soldiers wear helmets. So, they were kind of breaking new ground giving us hair at all in DAI.

On the other hand, egg noodles! Considering that it's implied that Cullen uses some sort of hair product to keep his hair flawless, I wonder what Solas would say if confronted with question about keeping his locks all soft and curly? Anyway - one of the reasons some men shave their head bald in order to cover the natural loss of hair... Perhaps this is Solas's deepest secret? Maybe he had a bald patch?

Maybe the Evanuris never killed Mythal. One day Solas overheard them making fun of his receding hairline and decided that is a crime for which an eternity of torment is the only fitting punishment.

The thirst is real XD No hope for confirmation on E3 though *sigh*. I wonder how far in the process they've come. But by now it looks like it would probably release in 2020 or something :sob: with codename Dylan being delayed until 2018 and everything.

What if Solas was only capable of turning them to stone because he was near an Eluvian, so closer to the Fade?
I've read suggested he is just that powerful now, and it'll be a permanent power we'd have to find a way around. But it could simply require destroying mirrors

But it could simply require destroying mirrors I don't think closer to eluvian = closer to the Fade, necessarily, nor I see any evidence that would suggest that his stone-turning abilities are linked to eluvians. In fact, when he turns people to stone the only thing that is evident is that when he does it, his eyes glow. Just like with calming the Anchor for a time being - interestingly, when Inquisitor asks how did he do that, Solas responds it's the same way he stopped the Anchor when it was consuming Inquisitor in Haven. The only difference is that he's stronger now. So he's always had that power - which is further supported by the fact that his raw magica glows the exact same blue as Flemythal's when she does 'evanury' stuff:

No, he seems to only use "Mythal's powers" in a sense that he replenished his own power reserves with those of Mythal's. The "eye glow" is likely just a way to show how powerful he is now.

It's the same magic Mythal uses WHEN her eyes glow, only when Solas uses it to charge Cole's amulet, it's slightly fainter - a reflection of his diminished state.
