The more I think about it, the more I think the trailer is simply symbolic... Without many hints at all about what the new Mass Effect will entail. Actually they said this on the blog post: "The teaser is full of hints about what we are planning, and we hope you have fun finding them all!" I agree about it being symbolic with the story of the major events, the reapers being dead and that their story is over, and the n7 is to show us the franchise is off from the ice, but there's many things in it to not mean anything, so i think it's story hints. So really BioWare just opened a can of worms with this because everyone is going to cherry pick what's a hint versus what's symbolic in order to have the teaser fit their ideal fetish for the next game. All of us here have interpreted the trailer to mean many things, all backed with solid reasoning. But regardless of that, people will remain steadfast in what they hope the teaser implies. For example, my first immediate and gut reaction was: it's soon after the war, Shepard is back. Obviously I took the N7 to be a hint while others took it as symbolism "the series is off the ice" ...to which I think is already obvious.

I too when i was seeing the game awards livestream thought the same as you but then i was scrolling through twitter and here on the forum. Then i noticed liara is older and i came to the realization that it doesn't necessarily mean anything. It could mean something but idk...

The reason why they didn't show Shepard climbing up the reaper is because they didn't want fans to get upset they showed femshep instead of maleshep or the other way around. I recall the trailer that featured Hale's voice. There were fans hoping there would be one featuring Meer's voice.

Of course, it would immediately remind everyone of Shepard, and it looks like the typical Shepard helmet piece. But if that's a piece of his/her helmet, that pretty much inevitably means that Shepard is dead, symbolically speaking. This is also basically confirmed by Liara's expressions of mixed feelings of sadness and joy. Unless they lost the old helmet again of when Shepard died the first time... Which is not only unlikely, it would be extremely stupid in my view. And why would it be on a reaper, of all places...? I'm sticking with the symbolic part. The speculation can be endless... We cannot deduce what they have planned at this point. The most striking things shown are both galaxies, Liara being old, the N7 logo and the Mudskipper. Another thing is that we are outside the galaxy at the beginning, we fly towards our sun in the solar system (I don't see the earth btw....), then towards Jupiter, the Mass Relay of our solar system, then to a certain Nebula, and then to a planet. Sidenote; The shot of the Nebula at 0:55 looks very similar to HH 110, a Herbig-Haro.

Sidenote; The shot of the Nebula at 0:55 looks very similar to HH 110, a Herbig-Haro. It depends. Do you think more people associate Mass Effect with Ryder or Shepard? Would people be more excited for a return to Shepard or Ryder? People are going to read into what they want. Since Bioware doesn't do their own breakdown and, at this point, even making a breakdown that goes against the popular opinion, Bioware would need some serious heat shields for that. So it's too late now, I think, for Bioware to swing in whatever direction they had in mind first. There's going to be some heat either way, just one options is going to draw a lot more than the other. And I get it, toxic fanbase and all, but people aren't all ... there's a lot of contempt for Bioware, a lot of ire. And wounds run deep and nearly a decade long. Maybe these people aren't all right in the head. Maybe I am not all right in the head. Shit, I was a ranger, I'm definitely not all right in the head. Either case, Shepard or Ryder, I expect a lot of heat, from either side and perhaps even some extreme reactions, which I don't condone, regardless of choice. Although, I can guarantee you, we're not going back to Shepard and co. They're gone, it's over, it's done, but here's more Liara, hope this sells the game enough. Personally, I think it's pathetic.

Unless that's a nuclear winter future Earth in the trailer, the N7 helmet piece isn't from Shepard's helmet.
Shepard's at best (if you were wearing it) got blown off by Harby on the beam run. There's no way it made it to some faraway ice planet. Did it go through a relay or something? Guess it has its own drive core, then.
It's just a symbolic thing. Most of the trailer is
Though I'm betting the part with connecting the Andromeda setting to the MW is real, despite how ridiculous it is from a lore perspective

Though I'm betting the part with connecting the Andromeda setting to the MW is real, despite how ridiculous it is from a lore perspective Theoretically, since Mass Relays create a massless corridor for ships to travel through, it shouldn't matter how far away they are from each other. At least, not for travel. It will be pretty much instantly anyway. Maybe the size will vary depending on the amount of power/eezo/capacity is required to maintain that corridor over longer distances. By the way... Concerning the spaceship. Considering it's called the Mudskipper, I wonder if this means that it can be used to dive under water on certain planets as well. That would be cool.

It boggles my mind how much some people want to cling to tying Andromeda in to the new game. A splinter cell of supporters want a badly written entry to be the main focus. The only mainline ME game to never have gotten DLC support and the worst received at launch, worse than a game with arguably the worst ending relative to the franchise in gaming history. It's more likely that Andromeda is a fleeting mention in the next game than a main plot point, but people will headcanon what they want.

Yeah that's all well and good, but the current cycles's races didn't understand how the relays actually worked despite being exposed to the tech for over 2000 years (in the asari and salarians' case) but now the AI with a tiny fraction of the population and scientific/industrial base is suddenly gonna build one totally from scratch in a few years or whatever? It'd be a massive space magical ass pull, but then the ODSY perpetual motion engine that powered the Arks to Andromeda was as well. I mean, the setting hasn't actually followed its own lore and internal logic since at least project Lazarus, sure. I'd like it to move back in that direction, but it'll probably just get wackier and wackier to band aid over the previous space magic. Particularly the disastrous ME3 endings, which have constrained the artistic direction of the narrative and setting for going on a decade now.

Particularly the disastrous ME3 endings, which have constrained the artistic direction of the narrative and setting for going on a decade now. Their artificial intelligence had over 600 years to figure out the Mass Relay tech, same as the Milky Way part of the Initiative. The question would not really be whether the tech got deciphered over that timeframe, but rather whether the QECs get up working again, so they can build matching ones. You really think we will see another Mass Effect game without Mass Relays? That doesn't mean that Andromeda will feature at all in the next game - I have no idea and no real preference, because I only care about getting a great story no matter the setting - but I think it's a sure thing that the relay tech will have been figured out for the next entry. Disclaimer: of course under the assumption that the game is set over 600 years after the Reaper war.

I want to get my hopes up, but I also know voice actors can’t answer even if their characters aren’t in future projects until the creators reveal that information. Unless the game is much much further along than people suspect I doubt they would have even spoke with her yet. Voice work is one of the last things they seem to complete. I'm gonna say they work on the game for a year or a year and a half. They might have talked to her even if they're far from the va.

I see more hints for ryder but not for shepard. I haven't kept up with anything regarding ME till the LE news dropped, so I don't know what hints we do or don't have one way or the other. I will say I wouldn't particularly be interested in either of them returning. I feel like Shep has earned her retirement and Ryder can take a long walk off a short pier. A new chapter with Shepard starting a new story would definitely get me paying attention to what they are doing though. A MEA2, nope I'd be out instantly. If they just pretend like MEA never even happened I would be perfectly fine with that.

Most was outsoured. a small team is certainly working on ME Next. Just guessing they are still in the early stages (broad overall story strokes, doing some conceptual designs and maybe building early prototypes / demos of some concepts.) afaik DA's development is or at least was also plagued by similar development/scope problems as MEA and Anthem have/had and they pretty much blew up what they already had done to start over at least once. (Maybe some DA fans that know better can chime in) Don't know of any other games that Bioware is actively working on.

I played Anthem for a couple of days over the holidays with Xbox Game Pass/EA Play out of curiosity. the game mechanics (piloting/flying, fighting) are fun and it looks really good visually, but I was bored quickly as it is very repetitive. Anyway hope we get news regarding the decisions soon.

It's the opposite for me. You're right. And you should want it. But Andromeda 2 faces far more problems going forward than, arguably, "ME4". Don't you think?

Alright. Why is it an easier choice for you? Shepard can be dead while Ryder is always alive comes to mind for starters. Assuming this exercise is only between these two and not a third protagonist.

Unless the game is much much further along than people suspect I doubt they would have even spoke with her yet. Voice work is one of the last things they seem to complete. I'm gonna say they work on the game for a year or a year and a half. They might have talked to her even if they're far from the va. Their track record says otherwise, they "work" on it for 3 years, EA says dude is the game coming any time soon, they then start from scratch because their work was basically bullshitting around the water cooler for the last 3 years, and then make a game in 18 months.
