So How many of you guys here, who didn't pre-order, will check out the open demo tomorrow? I'll be giving it a go and will definitely post my thoughts afterwards. Still will not be buying it, but hey free demo. Nah. Waiting for the origin access 10 hours. I feel that will be the closest representation of launch, so I’ll be giving it the fairest shot. It would have to really wow me to preorder it at that point. I’m generally content at waiting for a price drop or it just becoming free on access.

Same for abilities. I loathe the endless “I’m concerned about X in Anthem” posts, but if I were going to make one, it would be about the slim options for weapons and abilities. I was just thinking today that I don't understand how this game took 5 years to make. Like they spent all this time just working on... what? The art and level design? Maybe just the actual gunplay. I don't see 5 years worth of actual game here. Like they spent all this time and then forgot that it needs to be captivating to play for more than 10 hours. Four javelins is honestly kind of sad. The ability list isn't nearly deep enough to keep people excited for long, especially when so many are really not very different from each other. And the weapons, jesus. That is completely inadequate for a looter shooter. Guarantee Jason Schreier will do a deep dive on this and report that the game underwent a drastic reboot 1-2 years ago. Bet. you don't know how it took 5 years? Because BW was not planning a Shooter looter and EA wanted an aggressively monetized Destiny clone branded with the Bioware name to con the hardcore fans to get on the bandwagon (because otherwise they would have had to deal with the so called World of Warcraft syndrome) and just had them reboot the development to make Anthem into what it is today. This also explains the VERY underhanded marketing about how this game "will feel like a proper bioware game". Marketing would have never been allowed to tell people "yeah...no guys this is not gonna be a classic Bioware game". No they had to be deceitful at first and then tell the truth little by little (no point in replaying the campaign, no companions, no squad mates, no romances, no meaningful choices) And before anyone says EA could not force developers to course correct that way remember that they have forced ENTIRELY NEW PROJECTS on studios just for the funsies. Projects that were well outside those studios' wheel house.

Played the demo for about an hour and a half now. All I have to say is: this is not a game for me. It's really dull. It's not bad, but from the demo anyway, it not good either. It's just... meh; SO MANY LOADING SCREENS. Many people were hyping up the flying mechanic, but it sort of just felt like warframe; it's not that breathtaking as everyone claimed it to be. Anyway that's my small opinion. I don't think I can play anymore. I'm going back to playing AC:Odyssey for now. Though I'm interested in seeing what more people from this thread thinks.

I've never had so much fun since I watched the paint dry on my bedroom wall. Honestly, is this it? All that hype for this.
Spent most of my time bouncing of invisible walls or recovering from falling through the scenery.

It's about as much as I anticipated. Fun for a moment before quickly getting dull. I just didn't realize that only after one hour killing random enemies and half an hour killing a queen rachni, I'd be already bored. It's just amazing. Not even a few days.
In short that demo just confirmed what I thought. Never going to buy it, not even for 20 dollars, it just doesn't catch my interest.

When he's talking about firing his gun being a near pointless interlude between slinging his all powerful spells. And with the interceptor that build is being pushed towards the very bland Anthem melee system. So if you want to be an agile javelin hopping through the air decimating your enemies with your rifle, it being a shooter after all ... not storm, not interceptor, not colossus ... ranger? That's more of a jack of all trades.

Anthem's missions use the same cookie cutter form the beginning to the end (from what I've read). Yeah, the end game ups the intensity but the mission structure is the same..
1) Fly around fight mobs for a bit 2) Swoop down to a dungeon / enclosed area and fight more mobs 3) Wait for the Boss fight.
Repetition is the bane of fun.
So far, the scenery is all jungle, water and waterfalls, escarpments, tunnels, caves and underwater swimming. I can't imagine a desert like scenery 'cause of the heat, which the Jav won't like. A Nordic scenery of vast areas covered in snow is about as interesting as chopped liver. BUT... you could fly a long, long way.

Oh man I knew it. I am downgrading my ratings prediction on launch to 70. lol what was it before. My starting prediction was a 7. I was betting on 80-85 because of the BioWare bump and people not being as hard as they should be. But even big names are calling out a lot of the shortcomings. If the full game has any of the jank of the demo they're in trouble. I mean, I think the game will go on if it lands on Metacritic in the low to mid 70s but that's the score range where heads of divisions start getting... suggested to retire, lol.

With training GM1 is playable, but for all intents and purposes impossible to farm (takes way too long). That progression seems broken AF. You can do Hard in all rares, and need 50% masterwork to even consider farming the next difficulty? What?

MEA's multiplayer with a bizarre first person "wander around the city" mode, and more bullet sponges than a sponge shop owned by sponge bob Square pants.
Choice of scenery makes enemies difficult to see, the loading screens are seriously tedious, and there's no Harrier 😀
Some suggestions for BW:
- Add an option to remove Fort Tarsis completely.
- Redesign the User interface so it's less confusing and requires fewer button presses.
- More enemies who are fun to take on. Fewer bullet sponges.
- Lower the price to 20 quid (15 dollars?) and I might think about it.
Sorry guys. For me it's a dull grind.

Freeplay is a completely broken mess. Not just the server issues, the entire design of this mode is godawful. I can't believe Bioware made such a badly designed game... 1. Cannot have a private session. OK. But then the other players don't show up in your lobby. They join when you've already spawned. So you never know who might join and when. And you get this waiting screen javelin animation until players have joined. When nobody joins you get the same animated waiting screen again... Then you spawn but your buddy gets stuck on the loading screen and then you have to invite them again. But they are still registered to your party. So you first have to kick them from your team and then re-invite them! So you wait and wait for them to join again. And when they do YOU GET A LOADING SCREEN AND RESPAWN YOURSELF. What is this shit?!? There is no such thing as seamless joining. Please tell me this is not the final design for this mode! I can't go ahead and start exploring because I will respawn elsewhere when my friend finally manages to join. We played this joining game four times until we were FINALLY both in freeplay at the same time. Of course in the meantime other people join and your friend cannot join anymore. So I had to also quit fucking freeplay and start a new lobby. Complete utter garbage.
2. There is almost nothing to do in freeplay. This was so dull we never lasted more than 15 min flying around the same small restricted area testing all the javelins. There are two freeplay spawn points in the demo but they are very close together. It only takes a minute to get from one to the other. I assume the final product won't have these barriers at the most interesting places but even then, there's no life to this world. It's Andromeda all over again... mostly wildlife that disappear the second you get close enough to attack. And then random enemy camps with no personality. The world events are a joke, rehashed objectives from missions. You know, bring orb pieces to a round thingy. During the stronghold that was somewhat serviceable but in freeplay the orbs were sitting two feet away from the place they needed to be transported to!!! And there were NO enemies around, lol. The other world event was one big enemy that died within 10 seconds. Wow...
3. So many recycled locations. This is DA2 level of bad. EVERY cave is the same. The freeplay cave we went into (loading screen, of course) was the exact same cave as the first mission because I think it was actually that location. But even in different story missions the layout gets recycled. This is a joke.
4. The most hilariously bad incident of loading screen is when you get revived!! WTF is that? I've never seen a co-op game where reviving somebody on the battlefield results in a loading screen. Seriously, what the hell!? Another outdated feature? I have my doubts. Once I respawned somewhere completely different in freeplay. During the stronghold both of us couldn't be revived for several minutes.
5. The javelins have no balance. The Interceptor is completely broken. People say the Storm's freeze skill is OP but the Interceptor steamrolls through the game by spamming the melee button. That's it! And when you unleash the ultimate you can kill one of these bullet sponge mechs within 4 seconds that takes minutes to kill with guns. And then 10 other enemies as well. Or maybe it glitched and lasted way longer than it should. I dunno. But when we were just two in freeplay (the other 2 pugs somewhere else I assume) on Normal, my barrier was barely scratched with 20 enemies around that just died like flies. Elite shielded enemies, doesn't matter. Completely broken melee. Easy is so easy that any attack is a one hit kill. We quit freeplay on easy within two minutes. But I guess this means the game is playable solo at least.
6. The sound design is the exact same bland affair as Andromeda. The weapons/melee have no kick, no weight. Sometimes enemies just slide into death like a hot knife through butter and you only know they just died because they stop moving or topple over. In utter silence. There is so little response from the game to your actions. It's ALL just a visual seizure frenzy but doesn't actually sound or feel good. They MUST have read this complaint about Andromeda's sound design. And they improved NOTHING. Feels like they ripped the sound effects right out of MEA. Whats worse, the Colossus has the most unpleasant run and fly sound effect ever. It's so unpleasant to my ears as if my headphones are broken that it's virtually unplayable to me. There are other sound effects that just sound bad like through a tin can.
My first impression last weekend was more positive than I anticipated. This weekend it was already so dull we quit after 3 hours and have no desire to restart the game. The combination of technical issues, horrible co-op design, endless loading screens everywhere (the regular ones!) even on an SSD and dull repetitive world with bad enemy AI makes for little to look forward to. This game needs A LOT of improvement. Maybe there is a good game somewhere in their but to me anyway this is one of the worst designed AAA games I've ever played. I do not think the release version will have completely different join mechanics in place. These baffling design flaws kill the game for me more than the purely technical server issues.
I'll keep following the game's progress, see what they add to it. But for now I'm done. I had more fun with Andromeda's gameplay despite the awful jetpack. And I almost rage quit that game due to the most infuriating quest design ever. Now co-op is broken and makes me want to scream. Not an improvement at all...
I actually thought the game would play well enough at least. Even if a little bland I thought they'd do a decent job on a technical level. ME3MP is a bit of a buggy mess too but at least the basics of how to play together worked. How ca you mess up joining lobbies so badly?! Either that demo was HORRIBLY outdated or the game is in a VERY rough state.

I expected it but I was hoping they'd get around it for a change. My interest in the game drops by a good margin if high damage dealing bullet sponges is to be anthems challenge as that's such a bullshit way of adding "difficulty" to a game. It's laughable. Mass effect was just as lazy about it and Bioware should already get that message.

Sometimes enemies just slide into death like a hot knife through butter and you only know they just died because they stop moving or topple over. In utter silence. There is so little response from the game to your actions. It's ALL just a visual seizure frenzy but doesn't actually sound or feel good. They MUST have read this complaint about Andromeda's sound design. And they improved NOTHING. Feels like they ripped the sound effects right out of MEA. Whats worse, the Colossus has the most unpleasant run and fly sound effect ever. It's so unpleasant to my ears as if my headphones are broken that it's virtually unplayable to me. There are other sound effects that just sound bad like through a tin can.
My first impression last weekend was more positive than I anticipated. This weekend it was already so dull we quit after 3 hours and have no desire to restart the game. The combination of technical issues, horrible co-op design, endless loading screens everywhere (the regular ones!) even on an SSD and dull repetitive world with bad enemy AI makes for little to look forward to. This game needs A LOT of improvement. Maybe there is a good game somewhere in their but to me anyway this is one of the worst designed AAA games I've ever played. I do not think the release version will have completely different join mechanics in place. These baffling design flaws kill the game for me more than the purely technical server issues.
I'll keep following the game's progress, see what they add to it. But for now I'm done. I had more fun with Andromeda's gameplay despite the awful jetpack. And I almost rage quit that game due to the most infuriating quest design ever. Now co-op is broken and makes me want to scream. Not an improvement at all...
I actually thought the game would play well enough at least. Even if a little bland I thought they'd do a decent job on a technical level. ME3MP is a bit of a buggy mess too but at least the basics of how to play together worked. How ca you mess up joining lobbies so badly?! Either that demo was HORRIBLY outdated or the game is in a VERY rough state.
To be fair, Mark Darrah did say this demo was 1) Super unbalanced
Also this demo is from an earlier build which is a branch from the main. The devs worked on zone restrictions which probably led to your recycle areas. I doubt they worked on bugs... most human resources were used for the main game.
Yeah, the demo gives a bad first impression... To me EA & Bio failed to realize the impact positive/negative on the players. That was a marketing mis-step and a costly one.
My concern is the structure of the missions = fly then kill mobs, fly and go down in caves/dungeon areas + kill more mobs, wait to kill the BOSS, and repeat for the next mission.
Bio better add mission diversity in the main game.

Ai does not get smarter. ^^^ basically another another game bioware has put little to no effort into their AI yet again. I expected it but I was hoping they'd get around it for a change. My interest in the game drops by a good margin if high damage dealing bullet sponges is to be anthems challenge as that's such a bullshit way of adding "difficulty" to a game. It's laughable. Mass effect was just as lazy about it and Bioware should already get that message. Yeah Mass effect 3 the hardest of their AIs in sp has a type of difficulty. Basically it’s a pick good cover difficulty. They use grenades to force you out of cover while a cannon unit that can kill you in two shots unit is rapid firing. So if you pick the wrong cover you have to step into it. Pick the right cover and you cover roll to another safe spot. You can also just kill fast enough to avoid the issue. Especially easy on missions that were MP maps. A couple pain in the ass units here and there. But the AI while competent didn’t take too long to adapt to. The AI in andromeda got worse. I think the open world dropped the AIs capability or something. Literally the only fight I didn’t face roll through was the remnant tiller boss. My next NG+ I’m going to gimp myself to try and add challenge. And the thing is, I’m not that good. People who are really good, I don’t want to guess how bored they can get.

Been hearing the enemy AI is trash and will often just stand there, yet that the higher difficulties are actually hard. So how did they manage that without good enemy AI? Are the enemies just super powerful with super bloated health at higher difficulties? Two words: Bullet Sponge. Edit: Though they also have higher damage outputs. The guy from Gamesradar says in the end game enemies can 1 shot kill you.
