Meh. Go read that article about Andromeda's problems. They started with BioWare, they ended with BioWare. EA gets a ton of shit thrown at them when they don't deserve it. I'm not stating that EA hasn't done bad shit, they have. But this ain't one of their fuck ups. I did read it and didn't it mention that the studio's top brass were the ones that decided one direction and then up and about-faced the other way? And weren't these top brass appointed by EA? Uhh, no.

Andromeda sounds like its general failure had everything to do with BioWare. I think there's plenty of blame to go around between them and EA, but it's a travesty what BW did with those five years. However the game was starting to come together in the last 18 months... that's where I question either BioWare's or EA's decision to set the ultimate deadline and not allow further delays. It's as if someone went "Alright, you've screwed enough around with this project BioWare: RELEASE IT." when the game would've been sooo much better if it had maybe 6 more months of all-hands-on-deck. But ah well, Montreal, Austin and the DA finaling team probably crunched all throughout the summer. They were waiting for that vacation. I actaully seem to recall some of the prominent devs took a vacation no less than 2 weeks after launch. The rumor I heard was that EA had offered more time, not buckets of it but a few months, and Bioware turned it down. That would have been clean it up time, so the launch wouldn't have been as meme worthy. Without someone leaking documents, we will never know but my impression was its unfinished state was all on Bioware.

Why the heck would BioWare turn down a time extension that the EA overlords themselves blessed? And, well, I heard the opposite. BioWare had already been granted an extension on the release and EA said they needed the release for their empty Q4 2016 fiscal year. So, take it for what it's worth. I look at it as who has more to lose BioWare or EA if the game is released unfinished? If game the fails, who suffers more reputationally? EA even allowed an unfinished game available on EA Access 4 days before release. Why? EA Access subscriptions would rise as a result, even if they were for a one-time $5 monthly payment. And, despite the memes and mixed reception, it worked. The game "was a significant financial contributor" per EA's investor call, with a good amount of money coming from special editions. So, the aftermath is game sells decent but not the projected 5-6 million copies that EA and BioWare were speculating, player engagement is down so it kills SP DLC hopes, BioWare Montreal gets absorbed into EA Motive, and EA, overall, doesn't get hurt by the game while BioWare has to focus on making sure "Anthem" is a hit in order solidify their studio's future.

People would have found other things to make fun of. You can put as much lipstick on it as you want, It's still a pig. Dammit I thought I could resubmit without that stupid broken text. Anyway, seems to me that the bulk of what people make fun of is the animation stuff and its numerous, ridiculous glitches. People do that with most games, even the ones that are considered to be good. It's 2018 and Oblivion meme videos (radiant AI, conversation bugs, etc.) are still being uploaded to Youtube fairly often. But the key is that it's a good game, and well-liked, so it doesn't matter how often people take the piss out of it. No amount of comedic irony will diminish a quality effort. I don't want to act like I can evaluate all the strengths and weaknesses of MEA since I'll probably never play it. But animations and silly bugs don't sink a title, and they don't appear to be what sank Andromeda. If the game is great then meh, not many people will care. MEA's issues seem more fundamental, and spending months of time and money on polish for what by most accounts was a mediocre game is just a waste of effort.

I hope Valve buys EA or at least BioWare. Please, Valve isn't interested in developing new games anymore. Not while selling games developed by others is easier, safer and more profitable.

Valve takes a 30% cut of games sold on their platform, so they've obviously spent a long time perfecting the art of highway robbery. But yeah they're set. They're never going to go back to the dismal world of game development.

Yeah cause that's what gaming industry needs, more monopoly and less competition! /s
Beyond that being a horrible idea, how the hell does that help Mass Effect? Microsoft had struggled to make any decent exclusives for XBOne, Halo franchise is not doing to well among its fanbase. And let's be real ME1 was really only popular for being many people's first action-RPG when it came on X360 as exclusive.
I do not see this move being good for Mass Effect, even less so for gaming industry as a whole.

People have referred to EA as greedy and money grubbing, but I don't know if they realize that MS has been called M$ numerous times. People are so stuck in EA hate circlejerk, making the fail to realize that MS is in every way worse then EA. Oh and monopolies are bad, like don't do them. Seriously, what's with gamers and failing to realize these kind of acquisitions are bad for them.

Not a huge fan of Microsoft, but I absolutely dispise EA. Would love to see Microsoft buy EA out then kill them off like they have done to so many studios. Then resurrect all the franchises that EA murdered. I think there is no chance it happens, but a man can dream. Oh yeah, supporting Microsoft having a monopoly on gaming industry sure is an acceptable thing just to spite EA for terminating failing studios all those years ago. /s

I think SoD 2 is gonna ruined by M$. I really do.
I think that M$ deserves it too, everything that's gonna happen to them. Though, this would mean that Sony would take over the console space, with a barely noticeable Switch coming in from Nintendo. Sony is no better than M$ when it comes to online gaming. They're both massive pricks about their money and their IP's. It's just what flavor of dick you wanna have in your mouth.

Unless there are enough people with your tastes in games it won't happen, publishers are in the business of making money and not losing money. If there are enough people willing to buy the game you like then there will be more games you like otherwise you will have to wait for smaller publishers and developers to take the reigns of making that type of game. Epic Games showed that perfectly with Fortnite when it was struggling with its original model they added Battle Royal to the mix and not they have pretty much ignored everything but Battle Royal because that is where the money is coming from.

I don't see it as an acquisition, i see it as a return home after being in an abusive relationship.

People are so stuck in EA hate circlejerk, making the fail to realize that MS is in every way worse then EA. Oh and monopolies are bad, like don't do them. Seriously, what's with gamers and failing to realize these kind of acquisitions are bad for them. Yknow Bioware started the Mass Effect series under Microsoft Game Studios. I don't see it as an acquisition, i see it as a return home after being in an abusive relationship. There are many other differences, but with how Microsoft has been closing studios and cancelling games over the last few years do you really think it would be any different?

Isn't this academic? That acquisition rumor never made any sense in the first place; EA's valuation assumes they're going to get Playstation revenue, so buying them and making their games XBox exclusives would blow up all that equity. If Microsoft wants to set a bundle of money on fire, there are more interesting ways.

EA is nothing but a publisher. Microsoft is full of people who brought us perhaps the most popular gaming system of all time, and even though many fans have said they'd preferred if Halo died after Halo 3 and Halo 4 was a major bust, they're still letting 343i continue to develop the new saga, of which I'm grateful for cause Halo is my favorite fictional universe. And Mass Effect is my second favorite. And I believe the people at Microsoft know this, of many of the franchise's fans. Microsoft could give Bioware the better chance they didn't have under EA. Regardless, if 343i can make a decent Halo game under Microsoft then I'm positive Bioware could make a decent Mass Effect under Microsoft. I've suffered too much doom and gloom and assumed negativity throughout my short life already, so when it comes to this I'd rather be hopefully positive.

Not sure how making a piece of hardware then makes a good place to make video games, but I don't think they crack the top five selling consoles of all time. I bet the majority of those are Nintendo platforms with things like the Will and Switch since people will buy them to compliment other hardware or portability. I know there are plenty of people out there that would also say that Microsoft with Mass Effect was the first step to where BioWare is today because that is when they started to abandon their roots of Knights of the Old Republic style games and making games more action oriented with less RPG elements. I doubt Microsoft would be any more hands off or sparing of BioWare then EA is for they closed down Lionhead Studios and canned multiple games that were in developing for this generation of games. Its not about what anyone has done in the past, but how they are treating the developers now and frankly right now Microsoft has been treating their studios the same was EA has been. 343i from what I read online (I don't play console games) hasn't made a decent Halo game yet according to internet criticism just like how people say the same about Mass Effect now under EA. Just like there are people out there that think Microsoft is butchering Gears of War (or is it just gears now), you can see what you want to in the overall landscape, but to me any company that releases games doesn't do it for the fans no matter what they say they are doing it for profits.

Not Jade Empire? And KotOR itself was a lazy console port.
