Origins: The first game, so there was no pattern yet. Majority of the game took place in Ferelden. II: Hawke is a Fereldan. Majority of the game took place in Kirkwall located in Free Marches. Inquisition: They have four race choices, but they all come from one corner of Free Marches or another. Part of game is in Ferelden, but we've already have that. The new country we explore is... and I'm not writing it easily... ugh... Orlais. A country with very specific accent and hideous fashion (two reasons I might actually consider helping Solas with blowing sky up the... sky. Yeah.).
Am I the only one who is utterly terrified by this??? I'm trying to be optimistic, but as we all know, Cycle cannot be broken! We play Bioware's game, because they allow it, and we will play as protagonist with background depending on where the last game took place, because they demand it! And we should all be grateful!
The only way to survive this baptism of fire is to find a talented actors who can actually make orleasian accent sound badass. And acceptance that Qunari abs making fashion is superiour to that horrific dress noblewomen wear in Winter Palace (that abomination that is covering half of face by itself, not even counting masks). The letter should be easy, but the first thing sounds impossible.
I'm scared as a kid in the middle of dark wood right now. I need a hug.

I have found you a badass voice actor. Also Leliana's VO is French herself.
Or this one from the same game

I have found you a badass voice actor. Also Leliana's VO is French herself. Oh, I know. The problem is, she's the only one who doesn't sound like a walking joke. That's why I'm little afraid of our future protagonist. VA in videos you posted is great, by the way! That's how I imagined Gaspard would sound like.

DA4 featuring a protagonist with an outrageous french accent and the most exquisite mask and hat ever known to man sounds like a dream come true to me. Oooh and ruffles. So many ruffles and fancy shoes. It is actually the only thing I might be excited for about the next game come to think of it...So I'm not scared at all.

I think they could use Karen Strassman as the voice for the female Orlesian protagonist. Not only is she a great voice actress, skilled in doing both English and French dubs. She also speaks French for places like french transportation companies, Disneyland Paris, and audio tours for museums.

A protagonist born from Orlais is a no no for me, and as far as i'm concerned, elves are not interesting in the Thedas universe, compared to other universes out there that use this fantasy race. And anyway BioWare ditched City Elves in Inquisition so (at least city elves are somehow respectable) I don't expect them to give an option to play as one again, they will give the option to play as a pestilent Dalish, that's for sure.

And if you bring me Hawke, it doesn't count, that he was living in Lothering doesn't mean anything, he comes from a noble family (except the father of course, though anyway he was a very known mage from the circle before being an apostate) and he works to regain that status again through the years.

We've already had the option of an Orlesian protagonist in Awakening, does that count?

The Warden-Commander from Awakening was Orlesian. DAO wasn't set in Orlais.
Pattern=broken.
If we're not counting Awakening, then before DAI all protagonists came from Ferelden. If they wanted to follow a pattern, they'd have made the Inquisitor Fereldan.

Yes, there is a mod that restores is, but as you said was cut so the final product, doesn't have that option, regardless if you are using the unofficial third party option, so yeah Human commoner has never been an option even if it was intended in the first place.

Possibly they will have 2 voice actors with 2 different accents, just as Inquisition did. That would offer some protection from not being able to stand the PC's voice/accent, whatever it is.
Personally I'd prefer da4 follow DAO's style of having various backgrounds from all over the country/area. eg. Slave, Soporoti, Laetan, Ambassadoria. Or possibility a mix of natives and foreigners. eg. Orlesian Merchant, Orlesian City Elf, Tevinter Slave, Tevinter Altus.
Whatever we get let humans have a a background that's not Noble for heavens sakes. They've become my least favoured race because they all have this background even though they're the race who is least limited in terms of variety of backgrounds they could have.

Honestly I think the Inquisitor being from the free marches was not a continuation of a tradition as much as it was a carry over from when Hawke was going to be the Inquisitor. That evolved into a human only protagonist with choosable backgrounds all from the marches and those backgrounds evolved into playable races. It’s always best to keep past work instead of making new work for yourself
They might choose to make it a tradition now, but I have doubts. I think they’ll want to make DA4 a self coherent game as one of DAI’s biggest weaknesses was its dependency on DA2 plot threads and characters. Meaning our PC will not be a call back and will most closely resemble origins in PC choice.
DA2 telling Hawke’s story was mostly because they had a short development cycle and were pressured to have a Shepard like protagonist. DAI was the way it was in part because of cut content from DA2 and especially a cut DA2 DLC and so a lot of untied DA2 threads had to be tied up in DAI. DA4 seems to be the first game since origins where they might not be dealing with the DA2 problem.

They just have to make the Inquisitor the protagonist again. Then you don't have to worry about the protagonist having an Orlesian accent.

IF we end up playing an Orlesian in Tevinter in the next Dragon Age game, I hope the VA have genuine French accents. That's a big part of why Leliana is such an awesome character, her accent is authentic.
