Anyway, being online in integral to the changing 'live services' design. Otherwise, they would have to release patches for everything they wanted to change. I's only necessary to be online for a short time in order to download those patches and DLC content.

And it didn't take long to the doomsayers to appear. BSN, BSN never changes... I'm sorry we can't all be cheerleaders. Some of us just don't have any pom poms

And it didn't take long to the doomsayers to appear. BSN, BSN never changes... It's hard to be optimistic when there are so many red flags.
And in the immortal words of Garrus Vakarian: "I like to expect the worst. There's a small chance I'll be pleasantly surprised."

I'm hearing that the reason there wasn't a live gameplay demo this year is because the current build isn't completely stable, and they didn't want to risk having something go wrong mid-presentation. Hence the generic spliced-together trailer. Obviously I can't attest to whether this is true or not, for all I know it could just be the result of a marketing team that exists entirely within their own bubble, but it's something to think about - especially with news that the game will be playable at the event. We'll know for sure once the public gets their hands on it.

Truth be told i didn't see any red flags yet.
We all knew Anthem was going to be a online game long before the E3, and it's not like bioware lied about it. So i had already applied my dose of skepticism long before the E3.

I noticed they avoided giving away pretty much any information about the game story apart from naming a few things.

The game's 8 months out, this is probably as much as they have shown of one of their games this far out.
There had been no published Dragon Age Inquisition gameplay this far out (that would land 4 months from launch) Similar for Mass Effect Andromeda with no squeak of combat gameplay until 4 months out.
You have to go back to Mass Effect 3 for equivalent reveal at a distance, and that was a mature IP.

Don't see the issue. * People are online making these comments. * Excluding those with really shitty internet or scalping data usage plans, but those are just one of those things.
Are we living in the same world? Bioware's never tried to hide that this was MP focused. Indeed, this was always a multiplayer game you could choose to solo. You can't solo Mass Effect multiplayer offline. Nor this. Yah, well, you don't live in rural Nebraska where the top things for teenagers to do (to this day, I might add) are getting drunk, doing drugs, screwing each other, and cow tipping. Then somebody might come into town with this fancy typolater called a smart phone screaming about why he can't get none of that internet stuff. I mean, hell, America is like behind Zimbabwe for total coverage of the internet. It's a fucking joke.

And we're supposed to be doomsayers because we said "this game isn't for us"? And here I thought Doomsayers were supposed to be predictors of doom. If you don't want to be the victim of hyperbole, don't bring it to the table.

I feel like we are kind of in a lose-lose/ win-lose situation with Anthem.
If the game does poorly there will be a lot riding on the success of DA 4. If the game does well, especially in light of some of BioWare's 'failures' then they might view that as a good sign.
So help me if they make DA 4 always online...

From what I’m seeing online, Anthem’s presentation was the most phoned-in interview ever. Where was the passion and spark of excitement from Casey Hudson and everyone else? People are more excited by Unraveled Two and Sea of Solitude because of the endearing charm of the developers and because they didn’t waste everyone’s time with concept art.
If BioWare’s developers can’t get excited about Anthem when presenting an in-depth look at it, why should I?

Actually, I'm more worried about that trailer they showed during EA Play. As generic as they come. The problem is they have the game available for people to play this year, it was mentioned after the four minute chopped up demonstration of the one mission unless I heard Casey wrong. I don't understand why people are upset or surprised at the game being online, BioWare has been slowly over the years making their games more and more dependent on an internet connection. I had a lot of problems trying to get any DLC to work with both Dragon Age: Origins or Mass Effect 2 unless I was online regardless of all the fixes out there. I could be remembering wrong, but I think you had to be online for Mass Effect 3 to work as well.

Not a surprise...and no big impact for myself since I've been playing online for a decade now. Seems mostly like something to gripe about from the this-is-not-a-DA/ME-game-so-I-must-hate-it crowd.

It was clear from the very start, why is everyone so suddenly surprised? Because people love fooling themselves by believing their own fantasies. It is a pattern here on BSN since the times of DA2.
