I'm gonna shitpost and make a list of companions I want only from Tevinter Nights. 1. Lucanis. Yeah, you heard me. You think he's a Mary Sue? Well, I don't care. I'd be fine with Illario, I suppose, but I prefer Lucanis. 2. Strife 3. Hollix 4 & 5. Myrna & Audric 6 & 7. Evka & Antoine - I could be convinced to switch these 2 out for Neve and a free space but it's hard because they're precious

I reject the notion that there has to be a returning companion. I agree that there is no returining companion but... I disagree that the Inquisition or whats left of it won´t play a major role. Someone from the Inquisition faction has to be in the party because it plays such an important role in the previous game. Also a connection between Inquisition and Veilguard is needed. The only difference this time is that this person isn´t a returning companion. Last but not least we all know there would be plenty of Hinterlands jokes and it any character better to tell those than Harding?

Based on the Thedas calls trailer and what we know with them being from different factions and that it is going to cover the northern part of the map in general I'll guess:
1 from Antiva (likely from the Crows, rogue, elf or human)
1 from Rivain (could be any class, elf or human, maybe a pirate)
1 from Anderfels (Grey Warden, likely a warrior and human)
1 Qunari (likely a warrior from Par Vollen or Seheron)
1 from Tevinter (likely a human mage)
If we get a returning companion, my guesses would be that could be Dorian, Isabela, or Zevran.
The last two spots are really the wildcard ones. Maybe a fog warrior from Seheron? A elf who defects from Solas? Someone from the south like Ferelden or Orlais to give some perspective from the southern part of the map and how they view the north? A character from a country not shown on the map from the trailer like Nevarra? Someone from a Dalish clan or a dwarf from Kal-Sharok?

The possibility of a representative from both Tevinter and the Qun brings an interesting point about the nature of the Veilguard. Are they backed by all/most countries and organizations in Thedas?
Considering the current political climate in the northern part of Thedas, it's a bit weird the Qun and Tevinter would put their differences aside and bring their representatives in the same group.

So all three are not an option. Zevran could also be dead. True. I forgot about the romance part. Also, wasn't sure if Zevran was cannon dead or not. That makes it harder since the only returning Inquisition companions could be Varric (who I doubt they bring back for a 3rd run) or Cole (who has two totally different paths he could end up on). Maybe the trend will end with DA: VG give the long gap between games? Or they will make Harding a companion? She'd make the most sense if not bringing back someone who was already a companion. Speaking of companions and romance I do think it is interesting they are seemingly going the DA 2 route and making everyone romanceable since DA 2 is the only game where they have done that (not counting Sebastian but he was DLC). "Player agency is important to the Dragon Age: The Veilguard experience and allows each player to form unique personal connections with their companions of choice. And, yes, you can romance the companions you want!”

Also, wasn't sure if Zevran was cannon dead or not.
There is no canon per se but his death is possible outcome. It will likely end. I also highly doubt (or lets say i hope so) that Varric won´t return. By the way the original plan was to kill of Varric in the Exalted March DLC and therefore having another dwarf as companion (Blackwall as dwarf?)
But there will be a character in my opinion who connects the games. But this character is someone which storylines Bioware prefer. Promoting a secondary NPC into a companion.
What the hell i already mentioned and quoted this article that many times over the years so why stop now?
PC Gamer: "Fair enough. What is your criteria for determining which characters do come back? Actually, not simply from the dead, but I mean from game to game. Why would Varric make the cut and not somebody else?"
Mark Darrah: "That's a good question. Some of it's based on just what the writers are excited about writing. But also, we look for a certain amount of balance between the character. There's a bunch of things that we're trying to do for balance. You want a certain degree of balance between the classes. You want a certain amount of balance between the genders and then a certain amount of balance between the romance options.
If you've had a character in a previous game that was a romance option typically we won't bring them back because they carry a lot of extra baggage with them. You're not going to have a romance option come back and certainly not have them be a romance option again because there's a lot of baggage that comes with that.
The player might get angry as well. “But they're in love with my previous character forever and ever and ever. How dare you?” I think there's validity to that. You can start to cross off a few characters because of that. We often don't bring back characters, at least not as followers, if they were previously romance options. You might see them. Alistair comes back because we can do cameos and have them have an influence on the story.
But additionally, some characters, Varric's a very good character because one of Varric's primary motivations is he's the guy that's got your back. He's your friend. He's a very good character to have because it's good to have someone in your camp no matter what. That makes him a very attractive character. It makes him an interesting character to have because he offers a nice counterpoint to a lot of other kinds of characters.
The other thing that causes us to bring someone back is someone that we're just simply not done with. That the arc is incomplete. Isabella between Origins and Dragon Age 2 is a good example of that. We introduced her, but there's just a lot more to be done with that. That's actually usually how we choose. Often characters move. We don't reuse followers very often. Obviously, we are reusing Varric. We typically promote secondary characters between games."
PC Gamer: "Right, so someone graduates from being a quest-giving NPC to being a companion."
Mark Darrah: "Yes."

Quoting myself from news thread If the companions are supposed to represent various factions then the 4 factions we meet in The Missing are sure to be part of the 7. Grey Wardens (Davrin cause leak?) Antivan Crows Veil Jumpers Shadow Dragons Remaining 3 are probably The Mourn Watch (Greater dead/skelly boy?) Lords of Fortune Secret Inquisition (Harding, cause of redheaded dwarf rogue woman in leak) Though if Harding's just a temporary companion then that makes room for an Executor or Ben'hassrath (but since most of these factions allow for any race/class a Tal Vashoth could fit in any of them, don't necessarily need a Ben'hassrath)

Exactly. We’d never get to romance a character like her if they stuck to just companions. Though yeah that is another reason Trespasser sucked. I get not being able to actually marry her since as her writer and VA said she would want her family there, but at least let us propose. If they show up they better be married. I've been thinking that if the Inquisitor shows up, it would be easy to have them do so in Antiva since Josephine says they will always be welcome at her family's estate. Would make even more sense if she and the Inquisitor are in a relationship. I'm curious to see if they have advisor romances in this one too. It seems plausible, since Josephine and Cullen were popular options in DAI. I agree. I think Antiva would make the most sense for meeting any Inquisition forces due to them being a part of the southern Chantry and it has places like the Arlathan forest which Solas will be in at some point. I don’t know if we’ll go to her family estate though since they live in Antiva City.

My take: Crow, Ben'Hassrath, Grey warden, HC, shadow dragon?, Executer, Veil Jumper, Mortalitassi. I stand by what i have said. As for the femal crow i thing it is the woman from the concept art with the mask. Maybe the female Qunari isn't Ben'Hassrath but The lord of Fortune. Harleyqun. The grey warden could be the VA from the teaser.
And i am not sure if the HC and shadow dragon not switching places. Veil jumper could be strife but i doubt that. All companions are new. Where i am a little bit concernt is romance all and i don't see a dwarf companion.

1. Lucanis. Yeah, you heard me. You think he's a Mary Sue? Well, I don't care. I'd be fine with Illario, I suppose, but I prefer Lucanis. 2. Strife 3. Hollix 4 & 5. Myrna & Audric 6 & 7. Evka & Antoine - I could be convinced to switch these 2 out for Neve and a free space but it's hard because they're precious 1. Lucanis - Yes, I would actually like him and don't believe he is really dead. That is why I suggested a human male fighter for the Crow representative because he didn't strike me as a rogue as he was sharpening his sword with a wet stone in the story. He was laughably overpowered in the story but that doesn't detract from his character overall. The only problem is that if he faked his death to leave the Crows he won't be their representative. Since there has been a lot of concept art showing a female Crow with a rapier, she might be their representative. It could be Teia but I think she is too high ranking, so possibly a completely new character. 2. Strife - It could be him as the representative of the Veil Jumpers and in that case he would likely be a rogue archer. My preference is for Irelin though, partly because I want a female elf and she is also a mage shapeshifter, which would be a good class to see return having not been around since DAO. 3. Hollix - Could be our Lord of Fortune representative I'll admit but based off the 2023 trailer I think the Lord of Fortune is more likely going to be male. Also, what class would you say Hollix was? May be Mateo who was already involved with people looking for information on Solas. So he could be a human male fighter or they could make him a rogue. 4. Audic - I think will be the representative of the Mortalitasi and will have his own unique class and abilities. 5. Evka/Antoine - I know they have featured a lot having appeared 3 times now in TN, the short story and the Missing but I think they are more likely to be people we work with rather than companions. If they do feature as companions, then likely just Evka I fear poor Antoine may have been killed and we have to help Evka get over her loss. However, in that case we would have to lose one of the other fighters as Evka was one in the stories. Also, unless they have axed him, Davrin would seem to be the Grey Warden companion and I really liked the sound of him from the 2020 video, so wouldn't want him replaced. 6. Neve Gallus - I don't think she will be a companion but based off the Missing, more likely a contact for the Shadow Dragons. So our companion will be someone she knows, which of course could be just about anyone. I think they will be a mage though. 7. Rasan - She will be the Qunari representative. Female rogue. They were hinting back in WoT2 we were going to see more of her but we haven't up until now apart from TN. Unless, of course, the Viddasala was originally meant to be Rasan. Anyway in TN she was looking for information on Solas and Charter said the Qunari know more than anyone having got on his case before everyone else. Also, they were researching how to strengthen the Veil, so it would make sense to recruit them to the Veilguard. If our companion isn't actually her then I think it will be a female Qunari she recommends. However, see my post on schmooples about how possible they are going to try and get away from fixed classes. So the Crow will have both fighter (sword/rapier) and dual wielding skills with a leaning towards the attributes of a rogue and these will he unique to them. The Veil Jumper may be an Arcane Archer, which is a sort of mage/rogue combo. This could also apply to the Shadow Dragon. The Arcane Archer in the concept art and 2020 trailer looked to be female. It is possible that Shadow Dragons prefer to conceal their identity. The main thing is that it will be the faction they come from that defines their abilities, not the old three way fighter/rogue/mage concept, which seemed to be becoming increasingly limiting in what the companions/PC could do. If this is the case then each of the 7 will be unique.

I don't think a gang of eight people need an advisor. We're not leading a big organization this time. The close camaraderie of a small group would make a nice change from DAI.
I'd prefer all new characters if seven companions is all we get. They did repeat the "a hero they don't see coming" thing, so I hope that there's no connection to the Inquisition and related characters at all. Codex entries suffice, thank you. I don't want to pretend to get to know them all over again.

I'm pretty sure we will get a female dwarf who can be a romance this time round. It could be Bellara from the 2020 Behind the Scenes video and she could either be a Lord of Fortune (who would know about "the right kind of rumbles" in their profession) or actually from Kal-Sharok (although this is seeming less likely now we only have 7 companions). If you think back to the 2020 trailer, they said it showcased factions we would be encountering. That showed a Crow, a masked Archer that could be from the Veil Jumpers if they are connected with the Executors, and a knife wielding individual that looked like a dwarf with golden trinkets on their clothing that suggested they were probably from the Lords of Fortune. That could well be Bellara.

Also, they were researching how to strengthen the Veil, so it would make sense to recruit them to the Veilguard. If our companion isn't actually her then I think it will be a female Qunari she recommends. Lucanis has some potential for a story of generational trauma healing to tell, his magic eyeballs don't stop him from needing to understand his grandma is kind of a toxic lady and the Crows training regimen is, to put it mildly, questionable. As for Teia, I don't really see her or any of the Talons being part of our team. I even found it strange she and Viago showed up in the comics so much, they're leaders and should be in more of a commanding role, sending their people out to hunt for information and kill individuals rather than doing it themselves so often, especially outside of Antiva during the Qunari occupation. Irelin does sound good for the reintroduction and expansion on shapeshifting, I agree. Hollix could be a rogue/bard class, specializing in infiltration, stealth, and subterfuge, more CC and debuffing, rather than pure damage. Was Mateo a dwarf? Or am I confusing his race with Bharv and it's not made clear if he's human or dwarf? Anyway, if he is a dwarf, I would prefer a Kal'Sharok dwarf as a companion, that could be my free space, because I think that would be poggers! I put Evka and Antoine together because I don't want them to be separated. I would rather they not be separated or, Heaven forbid, one of them die. Let them be happy before the Calling takes them. Yeah, I wasn't sure on Neve, that's why she wasn't a primary choice. She seems to have her own thing already in place pretty well and she has the air of a contact more than a companion. Also, she's probably the only new character that could have been pinned by Solas as one of Varric's contacts. I don't see Rassan as a companion for the same reason as Teia. If she is leading the Qunari occupation, it doesn't make sense for her to leave it and join us. Who's going to take charge once she's gone? The Ben'Hassrath are spies and discipline enforcers, not really war strategists or military commanders. If the Arishok is actually leading the occupation, then I can see him sparing Rassan of her duties to join us but she still would have the air of a commander rather than an equal to us. I don't know, I'm having trouble seeing Rassan as a companion instead of a contact.

I think Bellara is more of a temporary companion, quest giver or important story NPC.

We don’t know for sure what that lineup was. Even if they were aimed to rapresent companions (which I’m not entirely sure of), they released that concept among dozens of others where we could we different ‘parties’ fighting or exploring or more. Patrick Weekes also directly stated to not consider them various concept arts as a hint towards specific companions.
Which is why I wouldn’t use the term ‘cut’ if some of those concept would be missed from the 7 companions we know we’ll have in Veilguard.

I don't see Rassan as a companion for the same reason as Teia. If she is leading the Qunari occupation, it doesn't make sense for her to leave it and join us. Who's going to take charge once she's gone? She did leave them though in Tevinter Nights. Now I was never clear if when she referred to "my Antaam" she just meant the group who were with her in the Silent Plains or she meant the entire Antaam currently attacking Tevinter but either way she was off hunting down information on Solas a long way from either Par Vollen or where the Antaam were currently attacking Tevinter. There are a lot of answered questions about the whole divided Qun thing. As I've previously said, did the Antaam go rogue because Arishok Sten was assassinated by the Sicarri, which they had been trying to do recognising the risk he presented because he was more thoughtful and strategically minded than the previous two. Why did they attack Antiva when they must know it would bring in the south on the side of Tevinter? Is there something in Teviso that had been identified as a threat? Was the Viddasala really working for the Arishok/Antaam back then and that is why Par Vollen could genuinely deny any connection with her activity? Having failed to subdue the south without too much violence, the Antaam redirected towards Tevinter straight after, so that would indicate the army was already to go when we prevented their coup. Anyway, I do accept the argument that Rasaan is too high ranking, so our companion could be an operative approved by her. However, she was off doing her own thing, perhaps because her superiors were ignoring the danger Solas represented (although the fact that Gatt seemed to be working with Varric in Kirkwall would suggest there was a level of co-operation there). However, the Ben'Hassrath declined the invitation to Charter's meeting, rather wisely as it turned out, so may be they were more wise to Solas' infiltration of everything connected with the Inquisition than Charter was. Perhaps the tricky part with Rasaan would be to get her to back off when it comes to leadership. However, her role was always one of advisor to the Arishok, so she could assume a similar role with our hero but an active companion adviser rather than staying back at base. The Qun philosophy is all about people accepting their role and working together for the common good, so she might be okay not being the leader if she recognised we were better suited to that role. I would like to see Rasaan in some way and be able to interact with her because I think she could have a lot of knowledge about the Qun she could impart. We have had Qunari (whether racial or not) connected with the Antaam or Ben'Hassrath but never one of the actual priesthood and I think that would be the difference when it came to lore, as the other two groups wouldn't be as well versed in it, as it wouldn't be relevant to their role. Otherwise, if the Qunari female is just some random Tal'Vashoth it could be rather disappointing unless she was a member of the priesthood that had gone rogue for some reason. Now that could be interesting.

All right my final line-up bets, before the reveal (of at least some of these people). In order of how much I think they're going to be in the game:
Lace Harding: archer rogue, representing the Inquisition.
Davrin: Representing the Grey Wardens. Probably a sword and board warrior.
A Tevinter mage: Maevaris? Calpernia? Neve Gallus? Some completely new character? May be representing the Shadow Dragons rather than the Magisterium.
A female Qunari: Not necessarily representing the Qun, although I feel like if we're going to have a Vint companion then someone has to. Could also be the Lord of Fortune character, though. Guessing dual dagger rogue either way.
A Crow: Maybe the Crow lady from the concept art (Teia?) but I actually think this is going to be Lucanis Dellamorte. I also think they might throw us a curve ball here and have whoever this is be a warrior or at least some kind of warrior/rogue hybrid.
A Veil Jumper: Strife? Or maybe Irelin? It would be cool to have a shapeshifter in the gang again, I feel like it's time. Also that would fill out our other mage slot.
Audric: i.e. Mr. Flaming Skull 9:52, representing the Mortalitasi. Warrior. Down my list because more recent stuff seems to have put less emphasis on them as a faction so maybe he got cut?

We don’t know for sure what that lineup was. Even if they were aimed to rapresent companions (which I’m not entirely sure of), they released that concept among dozens of others where we could we different ‘parties’ fighting or exploring or more. Patrick Weekes also directly stated to not consider them various concept arts as a hint towards specific companions. Which is why I wouldn’t use the term ‘cut’ if some of those concept would be missed from the 7 companions we know we’ll have in Veilguard. sorry, i did not express myself clearly. I don't mean cut from the concept but cut from my idea of the group. So were i am wrong in my prediction.
We know: - 7 companions - different factions
only vague: - Shadow dragon - Lord of fortune - Crow - grey warden - Veil jumper
So i was questioning where our Qunari companion will be from. Grey warden, Lord of fortune or qun.
And what a dwarf could be: Lord of fotune or grey warden.
But in my prediction we only have either lord of fortune or qun not both. And the grey warden as qunari i am not sure about that. So their musst be something different or we don't get a dwarf companion.

Audric: i.e. Mr. Flaming Skull 9:52, representing the Mortalitasi. Warrior. Down my list because more recent stuff seems to have put less emphasis on them as a faction so maybe he got cut? I disagree with this. He should be higher because he looks way to unique too be cut. Otherwise this is a good list.
And thanks for having Harding in your speculation list.
Sorry guys i really don´t believe that all 7 seven are new characters. There have to be atleast one character the casual DA gamer without any knowledge of some lesser known and easily overlooked, comic and novel characters. Also why shouldn´t be atleast one from the Inquisition or if dissolved one of the Inquisitiors intimates? I agree that the majority of the companions and therefore factions shouldn´t have no connection with Solas but doesn´t mean that Inquisition won´t play a major part in the game. And almost all of major faction should have one representative in the party.
You aren´t wrong but i argue that most companions from the concept arts are having a good chance especially if they look pretty unique aka female Qunari or Skullguy to stay in the final roster.
DAI companion concept arts
DA 2 on the other hand well they change and cut more.

Quoting myself from news thread If the companions are supposed to represent various factions then the 4 factions we meet in The Missing are sure to be part of the 7. Grey Wardens (Davrin cause leak?) Antivan Crows Veil Jumpers Shadow Dragons Remaining 3 are probably The Mourn Watch (Greater dead/skelly boy?) Lords of Fortune Secret Inquisition (Harding, cause of redheaded dwarf rogue woman in leak) Though if Harding's just a temporary companion then that makes room for an Executor or Ben'hassrath (but since most of these factions allow for any race/class a Tal Vashoth could fit in any of them, don't necessarily need a Ben'hassrath) I gonna make specific predictions now, which means most if not all will probably be wrong but it will be fun if I get any right Temporary Companion:Secret inquisition - Scout Lace Harding (I wouldn't be surprised if she were permanent but since we only have 7 I'm gonna guess temporary) Permanent Companions:Grey Warden - Davrin, m elf warrior (Hope leak is right about him, i'd love a nonhuman warden companion) Antivan Crow - Lucanis Delamorte, M human Rogue (Big companion energy in the book, and a different perspective on the crows than zevran without having power like Teia/viago) Shadow Dragons/antitevinter tevinter native - Neve Gallus, F human mage (She's a shadow dragon contact, though she could be a full member by the time of the game, either way she has personal experience with how the corruption in Tevinter allows powerful mages to get away with their crimes and works to bring them to justice anyway. Though i wouldn't be surprised by Calpernia either given her anti slavery followers have been leaving the venatori and without Corypheus to protect her from the altus higher ups of the venatori she's going to have to start her own thing or join someone else's.) Veil Jumper - irelin, F elf mage (No offence to strife but i would be surprised if we got 2 male elves and Davrin was in bts vid and the leak) Lord of Fortune - F tal Vashoth rogue, (Maybe fled from kont-aar then found a new home amoungst the Lord's in southern Rivain, the advantage of her being from a qunari settlement like kont-aar is she could have had any role thus giving us something other then beresaad and ben hassreth to sink our lore-teeth into.) Mourn Watch - Greater Dead, unique (An intelligent possessed corpse or skeleton. Though i wouldn't be shocked my a mortalitasi with a skeleton "pet" instead) Kal Sharok - dwarf warrior (with a connection to Titans, Ghilan'nain pools or something else that accounts for Kal Sharok's survival and ends up making then informed about/relevant to the themes/plot of Veilguard. The least likely of my guesses, but i WANT.) I'd guess Bellara to be either the Tal Vashoth or the Kal Sharok dwarf because of the American accent. I'm assuming here that the shadow dragons who helped slaves in The Missing are also "The Tevinter you forgot" hunting venatori collaborators in Minrathous Shadows, and a Tevinter antiestablishment faction. I like the idea of having a Tevinter companion who is anti Tevinter along with a Tal Vashoth companion being anti qun. Fits with the not getting assistance from those in power idea, instead getting assistance from those criticizing those in power.

So, I have a little weird theory about Qwydion being a companion. I don't actually watch that TV series "Mythic Quest: Raven's Banquet", but if I'm not mistaken, there was a scene in one of the episodes from the Third Season in which a character was watching one of the trailers from Dragon Age (still Dreadwolf at the time). If I remember correctly, that character is played by Ashly Burch, who voices a lot of games and she also was the voice actress behind Qwydion in Dragon Age Absolution. When I saw that, I immediately remembered about Tallis from DA2, played by Felicia Day. She appeared in one episode of the Supernatural show, which also showed Dragon Age 2 scenes in some frames of the episode. What I'm trying to say is, maybe this is a common "tease" from Bioware developers? This could probably be wrong, but maybe Ashly Burch is at least a voice actress in Veilguard? (also this is my first post in the forum after years of just lurking and reading the comments, with the next game fast approaching I took the courage to finally create an account, so sorry if my post is incorrect. Besides that, english is not my first language, so sorry if I wrote something wrong )

Enemies will always temporarily put aside their beefs if they perceive a greater threat, then go right back to them after the bigger threat is removed.

I agree, but I wasn’t expecting they’d in a way that they’ll both join the same group in an ‘official’ way, as it seems every party member is part of the Veilguard.
