I finally had a chance to listen to the interview, and IMO - that's great news! I'd love to see smaller, experimental games from BioWare, and if they can tie them into DA or ME... even better. Teams on these kinds of games tend to be really small, so they don't detract from their bigger projects. Even a "AA" game on the level of Hellblade was made by just 20 people. Most other Indie Games even smaller teams. So... yeah. Looking forward to seeing what they can cook up, especially given their facilities.

Do they mean like say a short AA cinematic story of about 8 - 10 hours?
I'd be fine with that at say £19:99 to £24:99

I'd be fine with that at say £19:99 to £24:99 As experimental games, they could honestly be of any style you could think of (1st person/3rd person action, Telltale style, high-end platformers, isometric games, puzzlers, tactics games, etc., etc.). It's just that they want to hit a certain level of production value with them: a high-end Indie.

I would be for it but of course the issue is one of personell and well I would still like them to make pretty big games. I mean hell I wonder if a smaller scale DA game in the future might not be a good idea with regular updates as sort of a prequel to the main event games just to give us our fix...ala Metal Gear Ground Zeroes. Just don't make it as pathetic...and expensive.

As a developer who only puts out games every two years, causing 4 year cliff hangers, I am disinterested in them in getting further distracted.
I'm sure they'll do what they want so long as it makes them money.

I'm sure they'll do what they want so long as it makes them money. One of the reasons I really like this idea is because is shouldn't distract from their big tent-pole games. If they have 300+ people working on Anthem right now, ??? working on Star Wars, and another small team on DA4... a ~20 Dev "Indie" team isn't going to be something they can't work or hire their way around. And it might help ease some of that wait for the bigger games to have these smaller projects come out inbetween. Also, I'm a big Indie fan, so I'm curious to see what a small team, but with BioWare's resources, and "AA" quality target can accomplish.

The really important question is; will the smaller game(s) have realistic breast and butt physics? But in general, I'd be quite keen to see more games from them - especially Dragon Age, but if not, then that's fine - if they comprise the approximate 'content' level of say, Trespasser combined with Jaws of Hakkon. Whether or not that's realistic, I don't know, but I probably wouldn't be interested in anything smaller than that.

Besides from what they have said, post Anthem's launch the number of people working on the game will be very reduced. That may means more people to work on DA4 and maybe some of those side projects (it would be nice if they were DA/ME related).

I'd prefer smaller adventure games over what they're currently making, so this is good news to me. Ditching open-world and going back to DA2/ME2/ME3 style would be even better.

Assuming they will work things out so that the bigger scale games aren't getting left or in the dark and delayed further for these smaller games, I'd say this could be a good thing. Having smaller games in between sounds like it will be beneficial for Bioware in general, but also for the creatives working there who have so many ideas to share.

I'd be down with that if we get more Dragon Age content in smaller doses. I've often thought that there was room in the Dragon Age setting to accommodate games that weren't necessarily about a hero assembling a ragtag band of misfits to go on some huge quest.
One of the ideas I've always had was for a Darkest Dungeon-style roguelike that goes into the Deep Roads. Non-Wardens would actually fall to the Blight, mages would be possessed, and you would have to put them out of their misery.

True you can express your sexuality outside the bounds of romance, but that's typically how it's done in these game, whether straight, gay, or bi. I didn't romance anyone in DAO but my Warden was still gay.
I suppose the caveat here is that, as Cousland, I was able to have that fling with Dairren in the prologue, but that's the only origin that gets such an option. There was no way for me to express that otherwise outside of romance. That's not to say there aren't opportunities for that sort of thing. I recall in Skyrim that there is one dialogue from a woman (for a male PC) where she assumes you'll want her for sex. I kind of wanted an option to say something like, "I'm not interested in your bits anyway," or something along those lines.

It depends on what the small games would be, but potentially it could be very exciting. I've personally thought since DAI BioWare has been trending towards making their games too big for their own good. But if they are determined to continue on that path, having the smaller games supplement the larger ones could be nice.

Oh, I'll gladly take a snack to tide me over. We're going to be waiting a long time for dinner. And if there are no romances at all? If they had a game that was, say, a Dragon Age roguelike or Dragon Age stealth game or Dragon Age horror game, I would not care if there were romances. I don't want to lose that in a main title, but a spinoff is fair game. In fact, depending on the genre and story, romances would be detrimental.

Well that's why I said 'consider'. I would need to know the details of how it all works. If their pitch satisfied me, I would pick it up. Or alternatively, they could come up with something genuinely original and interesting enough to catch my attention despite a lack of gay. That's always a slim possibility.

Is it possible that's what they were thinking of when they pitched the DA tactics game to the fan-base? Then funding wasn't forthcoming or there was too urgent a demand for personnel on MEA and Anthem, so it never got off the ground.
Personally I'd rather they focussed on their core franchise games, particularly Dragon Age so we can get the next instalment, rather than being distracted by more experimental games (Anthem is essentially an experiment on their part). Whether they are large or small in scale they still require funding and sinking money into a new experimental game is bound to put pressure on budgets elsewhere.

Damn, that's awesome news. I hope we end up seeing more Bioware games in the future, with this "broader" focus.
There's so much I'm dreaming already, with this announcement. Snuggles and the Brecilian Forest plataformer, Souls-like Dragon Age, Dragon Age Tactics, Mass Effect RTS. AA games in the vein of Jade Empire and KOTOR: Shorter, more linear, tighter gameplay. Perhaps they can resurrect Agent and Revolver.
