I bought it two days ago at reduced price, impressed with the devs attempt to fix it, thinking after a year, it might be good -
Two hours of wrestling with the horrible UI and being unable to reach the element Heridium on the horizon before dying of radiation while getting to it, collecting it and running back to my ship caused me to refund.
Stay away unless you want this type of experience.

Lol.... I guess that settles that for me, once and for all. I hadn't really watched that much NMS gameplay previous to this, and had just been curious and hopeful the game might become a bargain bin cult classic. That doesn't really appear likely, at all

That video is hilarious! I cringe at most Youtubers but this one is actually funny imo. I was briefly really excited for NMS even though I knew all along it would be boring AF even before release. Kept wondering if I should try it out for like ten bucks eventually. Maybe modded it wouldn't be so damn ugly anymore. Decided months ago that the game was beyond repair.

It is impressive that they are still updating the game though. I did pre-order it, a day before it came out. And I was disappointed.
But I am curious what they are going to add in the future.

I stand by the piece I wrote last year regarding the community of No Man's Sky.
It's still a good game in the end, but its a good game for the right group of people, it's doing well in it's niche.

False advertising and a AAA price tag killed the game. If they'd sold it as a small 20 bucks indie title nobody would have complained about there being little to do.
It's probably a nice game for a few hours. Even when first released people said the first two hours are cool. But that's not enough for the price tag it shipped with. My 7€ ear buds I use at work are shit compared to my 850€ Stax headphones but they are great value for their price tag imo. When I buy cheap I know what to expect.
And while I put most of the blame on Hello Games being dishonest about their game, I think it's cool that they're still adding features as an apology. There are plenty of people who appreciate it.

Personally, I do try to pay attention to the new updates they release. If they add something to the game, that I think is a game changer, then I'm game to re-install the game and try it again. But so far, they haven't added anything so amazing to the game, that makes me want to re-install it. At least not yet.

Any thoughts on this?
Yeah yeah, I know all about the whole the 'Sean Murray Lied!' debacle as well as the numerous launch bugs that plagued the original game. But now that the title is releasing on Xbox, with third person, player customization, base building, and fully supported drop-in/drop-out multiplayer I'll admit that I am cautiously curious.
Has anyone played No Man's Sky more recently? Has it gotten better since release? Closer to the original vision that was promised?

Sounds like griefer's paradise to me. Could be, but then again, I have yet to run into any hostile players despite putting hundreds of hours into open play in Elite: Dangerous so I'm more inclined to think it won't be as bad.

The only way to meet them is at CGs, engineer bases - where many people squeeze through regularly.

True, but if the scale of this game is as truly as massive as the trailers indicate (I could be wrong, I've never actually played No Man's Sky) then wouldn't it be a simple matter of setting up a base in an out of the way system to avoid potential grief? Going smaller than that, couldn't you just move to another side of a particular solar system if one planet was a hotspot, or even move to another continent on said planet to avoid players?

Aside from the potential for griefing, what's your take on this update? Have you played No Man's Sky previously?

The MP update lets me rather wait and see what happens. I don't want to waste time with mutual destruction when my interest is only SP in the gameplay.

The MP update lets me rather wait and see what happens. I don't want to waste time with mutual destruction when my interest is only SP in the gameplay. A smart move to make, I'll need to adopt a similar approach in my potential purchase of this game as well; seeing as how No Man's Sky has already burned a lot of people too. Multiplayer is a nice bonus feature to me, one that certainly is influencing my decision on whether to buy the game or not, but it's not like I need to have other people playing with me all the time. My general approach is if I am going to invest my time and effort into a game, especially in the survival/exploration genre, I would like the option of sharing that investment with friends. Then again I did grow up with two other brothers and a host of cousins all into gaming as much as me, so that has influenced my perspective on things

Honestly, the one thing that might draw me into this game is the addition of some more robust SP features. The main disadvantage this game has is the lack of content besides the sandbox elements, if they want to fix that with MP good luck to them, but it's not really my cup of tea. As for the game itself, I'm sure that like with a lot of other game it could be fun potentially if you play it with the right people. Of course, that's a big if (also implying that the "wrong" people aren't there), and besides, practically any game could be fun with friends, potentially anyway. Is that enough? Ask "Sea of Thieves" developers. Well the second video I linked did mention something about being able to play the entire campaign co-op if you wanted, so there must be some form of story to the game now compared to release. And I agree on Sea of Thieves. A buddy of mine convinced me to buy it, but after about a day or two we both completely lost interest in it.

I kind of feel vindicated after two years at this point. After four major patch updates adding so much content at this point, it is the game that people wanted it to be after such a long time.
I always enjoyed No Man's Sky, and considering the community behind the game has already literally crafted fan-made federations and planet hubs and such...adding this might just be what the doctor ordered for people.

I heard you still can play solo. So MP might not be a detriment if you don't want any griefing done to the sandcastles you build.

Sounds like griefer's paradise to me. Yeah, but you can only grief up to 3 friends. Kind of like Anthem. Though apparently you can already grief in current NMS. If you build a base and don't lock it, anyone who finds it can mess it up pretty badly, especially if you are using it to farm rare materials that spawn infrequently. EDIT: Which I now see you already knew about, after reading the rest of the thread ...

Very nice trailer! But we had a cool trailer before and we all know how that turned out...
I'm slightly interested in the game again but still not sure it's a game for me. The biggest turn off is still the ugly monsters and textures that looked NOTHING like what we saw in the promotion video. I checked out some of the updates and the game still looked fairly ugly to me. And I'm not going exploring when planets look unappealing.
I got a much better version of No Man's Sky with Subnautica that I'm super addicted to right now. But the resource grind and constant starvation alerts can be quite annoying. At least Subnautica has a creative mode for base building enthusiasts. Does NMS have different modes too now?
I'll keep an eye on this in any case!
Quite remarkable what they've done with the game after such a disastrous launch. Maybe too late for most people but I think it's cool that they didn't just abandon the game in shame.

It's definitely starting to look like what was promised back then. Really had they released it like this instead of what it was, definitely would've done better. Now if only they dropped the price too, outrageous that they still charge the money of a AAA game.
