I want to start reading these books. Is there a particular order in which I should read them? well, not really except for Stolen Throne and The Calling (Stolen Throne first, then The Calling)
those two take place before Origins and tell the story of King Maric and Loghain
then Asunder or Masked Empire, I believe those two have events that happen simultaneously from one another They take place after DA 2 and before Inquisition
and lastly The Last Flight, since it takes place during and after Inquisition, though might be even after Trespasser
Thanks! The Last Flight is the only book I have, but I haven't read it yet. I'll save it then until I read the rest.

Thanks! The Last Flight is the only book I have, but I haven't read it yet. I'll save it then until I read the rest. Because of the content of the book, it's quite separate from the rest. It has just a spare mention of the Inquisition going on, and perhaps the mage rebellion, but that's it. You could really get away with reading that one at any time. Stolen Throne (1) and The Calling (2) are pre-DAO. Both The Masked Empire and Asunder takes place in the three year gap when Hawke is seen walking away after killing Meredith and Varric is questioned by Cassandra.
The Masked Empire (3) has a slight overlap with Asunder (4), but these two can be read in either order. I need to update this for the more recent comics, but it's up-to-date for everything else. DA Story Chronology for All Media

I'm wondering if I would've figured out that Cole is a spirit even if I hadn't played DAI before reading Asunder. I think I would, because there were way, way too many hints.
- He was too unfamiliar with everything. Even for someone who's supposed to have grown up in the Circle.
- The weird way he gave people nicknames instead of learning their names.
- Being invisible. Come on.
- His need to kill people in order to feel real and connected to this world. That was the most painfully obvious hint that he is a spirit.

Ah, difficult choice! I really LOVE all of them. Particularly The Masked Empire. Possibly because although I get much less attachment to the characters than Gaiders' works, I find the intrigues playing fascinating. The Grand Game of Orlais. I do love the ruthless characterization of Michel de Chevin, Celene and Briala, and Gaspard.
I really love Loghain, Fiona, Duncan, Maric et compagnie, as well as Evangeline, Rhys and Cole in other books. But those are characters written to be well loved in my eyes. They are gentler and more altruists, people trying to struggle against what life's current throw at them.
Celene, Briala, Michel, etc from TME are much more ruthless and freaking interesting. Although I love them as a person much less than, say, Loghain or Duncan or Rhys and Evangeline.

Asunder – because I did read only that... You make me LOL on most days. Comments like this, and then that other thread where they asked who was better, Inquisitor or the Dragonborn. And you were like, No Shame, HAWKE. And I laughed and laughed and hugz
