So DC has released a trailer for the new live action Teen Titans series that may or may not be connected to the DC cinematic universe (trailer just below) And it seems that this time they are going for a more grimdark approach to the source material, apparently now Robin is the one who wants to fuck batman and while I can't say I really blame Robin for having some pent up frustration towards Batman the new trailer does bring up a question that DC has been trying address for years, will Robin ever be cool? i.pinimg.com/originals/aa/20/bb/aa20bb9c0cb156371188c8b1221bc6f1.jpgI mean DC has been trying for years to make Robin cool, from the first Teen Titans where he was turned into a leader to giving him an uber hawt alien girlfriend to try and dispel rumours he was gay, but none of their attempts even seem to work, even when they tried to give him a new identity as the superhero Nightwing he still failed to get out from under Batman's shadow and always looked like the male version of the female superhero that exists purely to be put into bondage fantasies where they constantly get tied up and molested by the villains. Just wondering what you think? Do you think DC finally hit the mark with dark sweary Robin? Is this the angsty remake of Teen Titans you were waiting for? Or does it all look like a pile of bat jizz? |

I picked choice one but it's only partially accurate. Dick Grayson got to be very cool in the pages of New Teen Titans back in the 80s. Jason Todd...eh. There's a reason readers voted to kill him off. Tim Drake was awesome. Damien Wayne was decent. Reboot with Red Robin? Ugh.

She was only ever a substitute Robin until Damien returned. I think Tim moved on to be Red Robin. That was fine until the reboot when he was...whatever the hell he was. I think they seriously screwed with Tim and Jason both.
I actually remember when Jason was first introduced. He was a fun-loving character that was kind of dorky like Dick Grayson had been played for a long time. Then someone realized he was too similar and gave him a darker background where Batman caught him trying to steal the tires off the Batmobile. That wasn't so terrible but then he died. I don't think Red Hod was worth it, particularly in the reboot.
In order of interest to me was Dick, Tim and Damien. Carrie was fine in TDK but, as you said, she isn't part of continuity. Wasn't Stephanie only Robin during a one year gap or something like that? Either way, neither she (fine as Spoiler but less so as Robin) and Jason held little interest to me.

I still think Wolfman's take on Dick Grayson was pretty awesome when he was still Robin. Then he went through that brief period of being of not having a costumed identity at all before assuming the Nightwing identity. The best part of it was severing himself from his boyhood identity but he wasn't a boy anymore. Even as Robin, he proved himself over and over again - at least in the pages of NTT. That's why he remains my top pick, with Tim Drake being second, though not by far. Damien was interesting in his own way but not quite on the level of Dick and Tim. That said, it made a lot of sense that he would become the new Robin, but it only worked because his background made him great in the field. If not for that, I doubt Bruce would ever have taken on his son. |
