Jason Liney @jasonliney do you have to do a mission to unlock your javelin? For example after the tutorial can I instantly play as my thiccboi colossus?
Mark Darrah @biomarkdarrah We originally were going to have Javelins tied to missions but this resulted in them getting unlocked too late. As a result you will instead be able to choose a suit to unlock at different level thresholds.
- Okay, that's a notable change...

Hidden_Stapler: How will Anthem deal with Toxicity? Weve had so many good multiplayer games like Siege or Destiny...1. But how will anthem catch people doing exploits, or people cheating? Rage quiting, going AFK in the middle of a mission, ect.
Siege was nice because it had a vote to kick system... Until it was abused. They also have battle eye which can auto ban. Apparently Bungie was slow with the Ban hammer.
Will Anthem have a Ban hammer that swings all at once? Or an individual basis? Will it have a report player option? Will it auto ban?
And are if there are bans would these be IP bans? Or simple Account bans?
Of course no community is perfect, but it would be nice to get a head start on it... Just saying. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Bio Chris Schmidt (Senior Systems Designer) Hey there! This is a topic near and dear to me, so maybe I can shed some light on it.
There a few moving parts here. One thing you're asking about is how will we action players caught cheating, exploiting, etc. That falls to our outstanding Customer Experience team and is outside the scope of my area of responsibility.
The general toxicity question is a great one. There has been quite a bit of talk about this recently in game development, led by the Fair Play Alliance. There are some great learnings about methods to combat toxicity that have been shared by several studios for the greater good. The tricky part is before you launch the game you don't really know how much toxicity will surface in your player community.
The approach we have been taking is a proactive one: studying best practices and success stories around the game industry and applying some of those in Anthem. I can't really speak to details at this point, but I'm working with a holistic plan with the ability to both be proactive and reactive to whatever flavor of community standards settle in around Anthem.
It's an important issue, and i'm encouraged that game developers are openly talking about it and sharing solutions among the dev community.

More on dealing with toxicity...
Anghya Good to hear! I think the level of toxicity is also set by the game and how is designed. As a nice example may serve Guild Wars 2 - its PvE world is set a way that everything is exclusive to you and you are not competing over things - there never happen that somebody will steal your loot, experience points, deplete a gathering node before you or anything else. It is often beneficial to help each other and it also inspire people to help each other even if they get nothing from it (reviving anybody around, mesmers teleporting other people to the end of jumping puzzles, mentors selflessly guiding other players, etc.). In such environment, I rarely saw a toxic behavior, if any at all! On the other hand, competitively set MMOs.... well, that's another story.
Bio Chris Schmidt (Senior Systems Designer) You are absolutely right, and I'm glad you brought this up. Players will respond to the design of the game, which heavily influences how they react and treat each other. If your game has lots of friction points built-in, you should expect more frustration which can translate into toxicity, becoming disengaged, or ultimately quitting the game. There's lots of examples of this I won't go into, but your observations using GW2 as an example of ways to minimize friction points are astute.
This is why we take responsibility as game developers for understanding that our own systems and mechanics can be one of the root causes of a negative social experience, so we must continue to view our game designs in that light in order to make a better environment for everyone.
TyFighter559 Question!! Would you mind sharing an example of a studio that you think has implemented anti-toxicity systems effectively?
Bio Chris Schmidt (Senior Systems Designer) Sure! Riot's Honor 2.0 system, along with lots of tweaks they've published data about, have markedly reduced community toxicity in their game.

BioWare found it difficult to balance a mission-based structure for unlocking Javelins. “We originally were going to have Javelins tied to missions but this resulted in them getting unlocked too late,” stated Darrah. “As a result you will instead be able to choose a suit to unlock at different level thresholds.”
Specifics on the level thresholds remain undisclosed for now, though gamers can “still choose the order” for unlocking their next preferred Javelin. This means you can leisurely unlock all of the four Javelins in Anthem by simply playing the game.

The issue is with boundless demos is the expense of them. Back in the days when an amusement demo was just 50 megs (Diablo 1), it wasn't such an expensive usage, however now you will have the likelihood of an excessive number of individuals that will crash the server and drive tremendous data transmission bills with a 40+ gigabyte demo.

Bioware's track record for dealing with toxicity/cheating in SW:TOR is abysmal to practically nonexistent. If they can't get it right/be bothered even trying with SW:TOR I can't see Anthem fairing any better. Makes me glad I'm not buying the game.

From the discussion, Bio is aware of what to do to avoid toxicity. That's the good news.
The bad is we are unaware if the game design is fully engaged in avoiding conflict that promotes tox. Though, the "loot system and rewards" appear to mitigate tox.

Hm... I can choose the unlocking order. That, on the surface is good but underneath it can be bitter.
For example: Solely emphasizing the player's freedom to choose the Jav sequence unlocking can be misleading, as explained below.
If the game has four ACTS and unlocking is on a per Level basis, as suggested, can we believe that we get all four Javs in Act1?... in (Act1 + Act2) ... etc.? It seems to me since the game is designed for a 4xPlayer co-op play that a mix of Javs is he desired choice. But, if true, what prevents 40% of the player base to choose the Ranger and 30% to choose the Storm and the remaining 30% divided between the remaining two? ... nothing. In Act1 then we know we get a 70% chance of having a 4xplayer co-op Team with only the R+S javelins. ... not the ideal mix for combat. What about mission selection and team match making? I'd love to see the algorithm for this!!
Now, let's add to the above mix, the player's chosen difficulty level. What kind of combat balance can we expect?

I didn't play Overwatch for a while now, but I know there is a rampant problem of toxicity there. I've heard that Blizzard introduced a system where players can endorse other players for good skills and good sportsmanship, and that helped somewhat with the toxicity problem. I think it will be beneficial to introduce something similar in Anthem, in addition to the usual ban-hammer.

Overwatch is PvP, a solely PvE environment doesn't attract that level and amount of toxicity. I think making sure the game design leaves out competitive parts will go a long way avoiding most toxic behaviour.

Alem Sinner PT(Master of crowd-control) @alem_Ant Are the combos based on interactions of elements between them or is it a gear thing? For example the Multi-Mortar seems to combo with all without a apparent element on it. Ty for this awesome interaction with us all we appreciate it a lot 🙂👍
Ben Irving @benirvo It’s mainly a gear thing, some things can “prime” a target while others can “detonate” a target
Just Laura 🏳️🌈 @drawwithlaura "Mainly" a gear thing? As in... some guns can do it too. . ? 🧐

This has probably been mentioned already, but it's the first time I've seen the Interceptor's repair support function confirmed: Michael Gamble @gamblemikeHow are you spending your Friday? I’m getting repaired from an interceptor. Crunch🕛 Anderson @postmodernlocke Oddly, I'm spending mine in a similar fashion! #AnthemGame
Completes the Holy Trinity, which I thought they weren't emphasizing?

For the record, I think both gameplay and narrative are the wrong thing on which to focus. Give us a coherent ruleset and roleplaying freedom and set us loose. If we break the game, we break the game. Oh, wait. Multiplayer. Crap.
