With Red Dead Redemption 2 being a highly rated game, spoilers are going to be an issue in the main discussion thread. bsn.boards.net/thread/1724/red-dead-redemption-2You'll also need to use a 'spoiler' box for big spoilers, as people won't progress through the game at the same rate, and many will be taking their sweet time to play this huge game.

Great idea, the game is so big it's going to be a slow steady jog rather than a charge for me. I'm looking forward to seeing/hearing about all the random encounters people stumble into so please share those!

I've added 'Redemption' and 'RDR2' to my Twitter word blocker and YouTube content blocker.
Some bright spark will try to spoil the ending imminently.

I cannot be happier with the game so far! only 28% through the storyline, chugging along. I keep getting distracted with fishing and hunting and exploring. The photographer may be my fav side quest chain. Arthur is my favourite "pre-set (non player choice character)" now. He is awesome in many ways, even if I think he's rather ugly xD Some little things that happened Photographer: we went from coyote thief, to wolves, to wild horses and coaxing gators closer to the camera. Each step of this quest chain was hilarious, fun and entertaining my favourite fellow in the wild west so far. Charles: hunting bison with this fellow, listening to his story and even the riding in silence for a bit. This guy is an amazing character, perhaps my favourite in the gang aside from Arthur. The drunk Reverend: if I had a choice to knock him over the next time he's stumbling circles around the camp completely drunk I'd take it in an instant. xD poor sad drunk little fellow. The main story hasn't hit crisis point for me yet I don't think. But many of the sections are very enjoyable. I'm not going for 100%'s on missions first go through, I can replay them later for those gold stamps My favourite random encounter so far: Arthur rode up to two L-raider guys robbing a stagecoach. So he shot them, leaving the driver alive and the driver told Arthur that he may as well take the items from the strongbox as his employer would chalk it up as stolen anyway so it's not stealing if it's already stolen. So Arthur did take the stuff, when turning around the driver guy was gone... but the carriage (4 horse pulled) was left behind so he took that too to sell to the wagon fence.
comment from Hammerstorm: "Arthur is either a really bad thief, or a really good one" xD
It seriously is the "I don't care", "I'm so over all this crap" and exasperation at everything from Arthur that amuses me. the horse and rider animations though, fully animated -everything-, from trotting along, to sliding a little down a steep rocky slope fuckin' amazing Different breed types have different animations, like their carriage and movement, not just a different build or 'look'. I'm in heaven between the horse+rider animations and the weather, skybox and environment. Some more possibly controversial thoughts: the Native Americans, slavery history, women protesting wanting to vote, african-americans stuff is in this game even if not as huge plot points, just background stuff that makes the world feel more of the time period and living. My point being it feels so natural how it's been placed, and usually I am very biased against everything along these lines due to it so often being shoved into media and games without thought or polish. It feels so natural in this I didn't even think much about it until I read an article criticising that there was no deep quests to explore those themes, and not enough of it.
I once the stumbled on that house in the woods that had the family photograph under a floorboard in a room that was obviously a cage for slaves.. that exploration find gave me far more emotion then a long quest would have because of how I found it.
There was also that stranger encounter who in the past was a slave trader. Asks Arthur to get his gun, ledger and a watch and longs for those days again because he was 'respected'. Once Arthur found out what the old man was done he was not pleased, confronted the guy, and left him in his rough tent to suffer the life he had now because I decided a swift death would be a mercy, and I wanted him to suffer knowingly the bastard lost everything. This stranger encounter was a short quest, to point out an importance.
Not to mention the lady demanding to be able to vote in the big city, she asked Arthur what he thought and he's like "sure. why not." she praised him and he replied with "if anyone is dumb enough to want to vote, I say let them" or something like that and she chastised him xD but he really doesn't care about that stuff. I do like that they put those things in, as it is around that time period from memory of history class, and it hasn't seemed too forced, since it fits in imo.

Spooky mcSpookster (my horse) spooked at a carriage, and a tram, another carriage in quick succession and bolted trampling multiple people and now I'm wanted for multiple assualts and trying to flee the city, and cops, ona spooked as all fuck horse and got thrown instead, died and I'm sitting here after thinking.. *while eating popcorn*

I think this thread was a waste pof space, I'm the only one here talking to myself, but that's alright xD as I've said before, it's not a game made for this forum's community really. ___ oh wow, No regrets what so ever choosing this game over AC odyssey (which I can go play at any time after I'm done here anyway). What just happened in the story. ooof it hurts so much! major story spoilers in this one \/ Sean dies, sure wasn't around long. A bit shocking but didn't punch me in the feels Keiran dies - nooo I was just starting to like him
...
THE BASTARDS KILLED HOSEA!!! AND LENNY and maybe Charles in one mission. WHYYYYY
Then Shipwrecked us, lovely island, usual problems happeneing and then.. MAIN CHARACTER DEATH CONFIRMED
F you Rockstar, why do I love RDR2 so much (I hate GTA etc, only one of their games I like is rdr 1 and now 2)
I adored Arthur...
I am literally crying right now.. bawling my eyes out.

That's shitty.
I dunno, seems like Rockstar listened to the crowd that claimed GTA IV was better for the noir atmosphere...
...and then cranked it up to twelve, because eleven is for pussies.

No, they just made a red dead game again, just it's done so well that it actually makes me sad when those events happen. I'm playing as "Not-Arthur" (John) now, the pc of the first game.
Red Dead Redemption had John as protagonist, and he died in story. After which you play as his son Jack for the epilogue. It is not much different, but it hurts more because the story is so good.

aka: "how dare a game let you interact with any adult npc any way you wish" Arthur just goes all "if anyone is dumb enough to want to vote then I reckon they should be able to vote" or something like that. if you don't punch her that is.. now there was that treasure map hunter guy I shot in cold blood because I wanted his map.... and then remembered I could have just hog tied him, robbed him and left him alive but tied up. Hind sight is a kicker.

This here's my somewhat summarized review of the story and plot, mainly in relation with Arthur Morgan. EPILOGUE SPOILERS I didn't think I'd find a more tragic character than John but goddamn, Arthur Morgan is a legend. One of the greatest redemption arcs I've ever seen this side of Jaime Lannister. Though one can always choose to go the Dishonorable route, the honorable path is truly remarkable. This goes without saying this game's style and cinematic presentation rivals MGSV: The Phantom Game with segments like Arthur's first diagnosis and John building the house of Beecher's Hope with his bare hands. I loved the whole crew, even that sadistic bastard Micah, whom I found to be a damn good villain in the way he carries himself once the reveal is up. I loved the relationship between Dutch, Hosea, and Arthur and theirs with John. How both of the former were like Arthur's second father and uncle and it was clear that Hosea was the true conscience of the gang. That was Dutch's breaking point, that moment of brokenness that continued to grow until his last words in this game "I ain't got too much to say no more..." Very haunting and very sad. Coming back to Mr. Morgan, seeing him go from a strong follower of Dutch and then seeing through Micah and eventually questioning not only the gang but himself and confronting his beliefs created a strong relationship with me, the player. I really wanted to save that broken family that I disaffected in such a terrible way after the death of the husband/father. I really got a huge kick of out findin' ol' YNNEL! I felt hardened and pissed when the whole crew showed up for young Jack. The brutality of that segment was glorious yet hard to watch. That segment with the giant alligator scared the shit out of me. Most of all, sending John, Abigail, Jack, Sadie, Tilly, and Mary-Beth away made it all worth it. Rockstar will probably never find a character as well crafted and executed as Arthur, though I did say the same about John, so who knows? Here's to hoping to see Jack again, all grown up and fighting as an outlaw in a different manner. One thing's for sure; God Of War 5, you're no longer GOTY. And now a song released on GTAOnline's After Hours dlc featuring the trance duo Tale of Us, who've created a tracklist based exclusively on videogame titles and references. Here's one made for our black hatted cowboy:

Wow, so I robbed the Valentine doctor (he turns out to be an O'driscoll) and apparently the gunsmith for Valentine came in and I stabbed him and he survived somehow. So, now he is back at the gunsmith with a injury. The attention of detail in this game...

I loved this game. Loved Arthur Morgan. All the different ways he could say, "Suuure". Oh, Arthur. I thought the bounty system was a bit aggressive. I mean, really? I'm wanted already? I've been here abt ten seconds. And you gotta fight for your right to loot. I didn't explore nearly as much as I should have, but I felt like I had so much on my plate already. The story, the voice acting, the characters--such a dysfunctional band of dysfunction. Outcasts and misfits. loved them. Except for Micah. I wanted to punch him in the back of the skull just once. Just once! Then Micah turned around, "Why are you standing right behind me?" I loved that the game did that kind of thing. It recognized when my character was trying to insert itself into a passing situation. Dutch...you know I suspected that he was dealing with some type of manic depression. At times he was wide open. He could see all. Then next he was depressed, and even paranoid. then that heist where he bashed his head. He got darker. Lack of impulse control. Made me think he was suffering them from a traumatic head injury. Brain damage. As can happen. He already was what he was, but that on top of everything else. Watching Hosea and Dutch decline was like watching your own parents decline. Once upon a time I'm sure they seemed so strong, but as you get older you see the truth of their mortality. Arthur was an outlaw and a killer. Yet he was also a good man. I mean, I guess that's the way I played him, but he ended up being strong and kind. Humble and honorable. Used his strength when he could to protect those that needed protecting. He did alot of bad things, but in the end attained redemption. Some of my fav parts: when we went to the Braithwaites after Jack. woah. The ride back from Guarma with that music. The end. I knew when we met that "Boatman" in the swamps that the story was abt to take a real turn. As soon as Dutch introduced the Boatman I said, "Ah, shit. It's the Ferryman. We're abt to venture into hell aren't we?"

And this one. Arthur in my opinion has succeeded John as one of the greatest protagonists for a video game. His arc with high honor is beautiful and its hard not to get choked up in some parts. Now THAT's a legend.

I've been playing this game slowly since the release and just finished chapter 5 (haven't got to the end yet so I'll read the other posts in this thread later ). This game is just phenomenal just because of the level of detail it goes into. During the beginning, I was impressed that even small basic things were included like trails in the snow or watching a bird of prey take off with an animal in it's talons. Anyway the reason I'm posting is that I've just watched the diagnosis scene and it has hit me right in the feels . I knew that there something coming along because of the coughing beforehand but the scene was still so powerful because it's something that Arthur can't control (and you can see his deterioration through his physical appearance). It was so unexpected that the earlier encounter with Mr Downes would have such a big impact later down the line. I never gave it much thought at the time that the coughing during that earlier scene would have resulted in him contracting the disease. To add insult to injury, I get a prompt after the doctor visit to say that Arthur has reached his minimum body weight. That prompt was kicking me while I was down . I imagine that Arthur's conclusion doesn't end well. My favourite moments so far is the assault on Braithwaite Manor and the return from Guarma (especially the music). Favourite gang members so far are Javier and Molly (I don't know why!!!... it might be the accent ). My least favourite moment(s) is just the whole town of Saint Denis because all you have to do is sneeze there and the folk will alert the lawmen. Those people there need to grow a spine! I played the first Red Dead game as well but it didn't quite captivate me like this game has. I can't sing RDR2's praises highly enough. I'll post again once I've actually finished (but given my slow progress it could take me a couple more weeks months ). I'm currently doing the redemptive side missions (the sister, Downes family, widow out in the styx) and I like how these quests are making Arthur reflect on life.

Even non-story related events can make you feel so much. For example, one time a dog in Rhodes came up to Arthur whilst I was riding through and I wasn't able to stop because I was travelling to fast. The dog got trampled on and died and I have never felt so much guilt (I would say the wanted bounty for Arthur afterwards was justified )

*spoilers at the beginning of Chapter 6 follow* Just started Chapter 6 today, I'm so shocked about the Molly revelation! She's still one of my favourites but I'm a bit more conflicted now as I don't condone her actions. I still have a lot of sympathy towards her though because she was the outcast of the group. She didn't appear to get on with anyone in camp and when she did try to speak to anyone, they would just brush her off. When she was mouthing off in a drunken tirade towards Dutch, even though I was shocked about what she did, part of me was glad that she got to stick to Dutch. I didn't expect Susan to pull the trigger either (what a cow! ) I think her death has affected me more than any other so far. What's everyone else's opinion on Molly? Am I the only one who likes her or have I been blinded by the accent?

I like the Irish members a lot and Molly was unfortunate. Cant say I blame Grimshaw. She's a real one when it counts. I'm on a second playthrough in Chapter 3 and I forgot how awesome happy Dutch is. I even got a moment in camp where he and Hosea were reminiscing about the old days. Almost makes me want RDR3 to star a young Landon Rickets with Hosea as a quest giver or supporting character.
