For those concerned about difficulty being too easy, a method I employ involves "sub"-optimal weapon loadouts.
What I mean by that, is you take a look at what weapons you usually bring. In my case: X-5 Ghost Assault Rifle Crusader Shotgun Talon Pistol
I have a few Sniper Rifles, but I don't use them often.
So if I want to "up" the difficulty even more, I'll break out those bad boys and it forces me to be precise. I'm accurate, but not precise, and I favor mid-range to close-quarters as my "combat disposition"; long-range is not my forte, and point-blank is not something I stay in very long.
So forcing myself to use weapons meant for long range makes it harder for me to "win", but it's enjoyable challenge.
Piggybacking off of that idea, one could simply take only one weapon. Taken further, that one weapon can only be LVL 1, or have no augmentations, or what have you.
Just some thought(s).

How the hell did a friendly topic about ng+ vs ng preferences turn into a flame war. Too address some of upagains points, it’s not a bad idea to respec and not assign skills as a workaround. I honestly hadn’t thought of that. I’m not sure I’d call that a flexible system though as it’s a workaround not a planed outcome and it requires a lot of finessing to get the right level of skill and advancement. And I’m not sure how asking for more customization tools which would make a more flexible and easy to use system is selfish as it would help everyone who wanted to use ng+ and make your idea more intuitive. Like ng+ transfer enemy level at Ryder+10 but transfers Ryder as level 1, keep mods and research. Dials to choose that stuff myself would make ng+ not only more attractive to me but I suspect to many other people. If it’s built into the system it makes it easier to do what you suggested. And at a higher level of flexibility. I see your point about making it more intuitive. Even more flexibility is always a good thing.

Just some thought(s). yeah either that and/or use an armour that dosen't necessarily work with your build as well is another way to introduce a different challenge For example the armour I was using in my last playthrough worked well with the build I was using as it's more a tech/combat armour so I'm not sure how effective it would be as a biotic user though. It does have power damage elements to it's bonuses but how effective that is with Biotics I'm not sure But seeing as I'm considering making my next Ryder a biotic I may try it as an interesting challenge. Usually when playing biotic I go with N7 armour for the biotic bonuses so I'm thinking mainly doing it to try something a little bit different.

I would just like BioWare to give us more information so its not as much trail and error and guesswork to make our decisions when trying to customize our play style for ourselves.

I would just like BioWare to give us more information so its not as much trail and error and guesswork to make our decisions when trying to customize our play style for ourselves. At the end of the day it' just a game and everyone has their own method and tactics that work wel lfor them and Bioware just tried to find a system to give us a fair amount of flexibility which is why they didn't. Some people like going toe to toe with their enemy using melee and shotguns whereas I prefer sticking to taking enemies down at range with a sniper usually. I'm just better at range than close in so tend to use my powers and sniper rifle and such at range usually Besides with the likes of Cora and Drack on my team I can leave them to get in the enemies faces.

Taken further, that one weapon can only be LVL 1, or have no augmentations, or what have you. Just some thought(s). I've done things like that, like my last run the only gun i used was the sidewinder and I find it a palatable solution when I lean into a role-play reason behind it. The pistol looks old west outlaw like, i made Ryders background story that he was leaving the alliance for family sure, but also because he was outrunning charges that would have had him in the brig or whatever alliance prisons are called for years. His lucky sidearm in crime was the sidewinder and he never feels the need for more. But like most nerf yourself solutions I feel its a hack that requires way to much gimmicking on the players part for things that should be built in. Its nice that you have the option, but its more of a despite of the system than a because of the system type fix. Powers I can roleplay around in the sense of you just haven;t advanced that far despite the game giving you level X, guns are a bit harder you have to intentionally pretend your ryder is a idiot and doesn't pick up a rifle even though he needs more range.

Always go for new game plus, make your character stronger and you have more freedom of progression with many things unlocked at first.

Current game is just ng. Might go ng+ next. Don’t want to have to research stuff again and I feel kind of stuck on specific guns as you can only research so many in a single playthrough.
I think my hack for powers will be to respec instantly and put all my points into trees I’m not using and level up my tree as I play. I’m biotic obsessed so I know how I’ll do it. So I’ll basically be a level 1 biotic but my guns and shooting skills are upgraded enough that I should be able to face leveled up enemies.
