People dont. They just hold the company responsible what they sell. You sure? Because I've asked about 76 the game many times and usually the first responds is about canvas bags which is not the game and not the game developers. People also seem to forget that there are 2 Bethesdas. The game development company and the publishing company. In the case of FO76 making a distinction here is kinda pointless since there is plenty of blame to go around. Blame the suits for the MTX's, the canvas bag, the rum, and the moldy helmets. Blame Pete Hines and Todd Howard for all the lies and broken promises. Blame the support staff for dox'ing their customers. And lastly blame the devs for the state of the game.
Much easier to just wrap it all up in a succinct all encompassing " eat a bag of dicks Bethesda".

Can you provide proof that either one of them were the ones that broke the promises they made? Todd is the face of the company but he isn't even in charge of Bethesda. And Hines is only VP of PR/Marketing. While my knowledge of corporate power structures are rudimentary there are people with authority over them withing Bethesda and definitely within ZeniMax.
Also the helmets were a game stop elusive and not the same helmets that came with 76.

Well the suit against the Bethesda was concluded and as anyone with three brain cells could've predicted Bethesda and Zenimax got torn a new asshole in court and had to pay refunds out for the game.
Surprise surprise, what they did was what any year one legal student could have told them: illegal as shit.

In the end, does it really matter? I wouldn't want to tar and feather the both of them and ride them out on a rail for their statements failing to translate into the finished product, but they and every other public face that pushes their market speak should still be held accountable for the piss-poor product people got swindled into sold in the end. Obviously not death threat level response, but definitely heavy negative criticism for the seemingly endless chain of fuck-ups on just about every level for the operations revolving around this landfill of a game.

Yes because it is all their fault people with more authority in the company used their power and position to over rule both of them. Does this also equate into the ability to walk up and punch any Vietnam Vet in the face for the war crimes the US committed during that war? I mean it doesn't matter if they didn't participate or even refused orders does it? They are the public face of the US military so they should be held responsible right?

You could say we are used to this from Todd. "16 times the detail", yeah right. I don't know that anyone really expected that to be anything more than just another "it just works" PR bull statement from Todd. Sadly this kind of, to be generous, hyperbole from game devs is just par for the course. On the other hand, breaking Pete Hines promises that the only monetization would be cosmetics and that all other game updates would be free is definitely something they should be raked over the coals for.

I mean it doesn't matter if they didn't participate or even refused orders does it? They are the public face of the US military so they should be held responsible right? I'm not sure how this comparison works, especially considering I've already stated that things like violence or threats thereof are not something I'd condone, no matter how poor the product or misguided the business model. I'd say that comparison to Vietnam vets would be off-base, partly due to the fact that Randy Pitchford (or whoever else) was in no mortal danger during the production of Fallout 76, that we know of at least, and that many vets were subject to compulsory service. So, just as I would still freely criticize our own country's decisions, even in the presence of any such vets, I would also call out the PR and market speak of the people that represent the companies that want our money to be flat-out bullshit when the occasion calls for it. The bottom line for me is basically this: even if you don't have total control over the collaborative efforts that go into the final product, at the end of the day, your being a representative gives us license to openly criticize and refute any public claims and promises you make on the part of the company. I don't care if team A, B or C dropped the ball, and they tried their best. In the end, the company failed, and because these people position themselves to be the mouthpieces that promote the product, they should get the brunt of the criticism. First and foremost, voting with my wallet is what I'm going with, but I'm also coupling that with openly lambasting the entire company from top to bottom as well.

The lack of commitment to that initial statement shows how little they really respect their player base. It's essentially decisions made by people who don't really have to deal with the end user, leaving all the rank and file to suffer for their mistakes.

You know I didn't get swindled into playing this game. I'm actually enjoying it. So about the game.... I don't play on playing it again until Wastelanders DLC comes out. That being said the paid subscription thing doesn't really affect my gameplay and I don't see much point in purchasing it. As long as more PVP, PVE expansion are there for free I'll be very happy.

While I simply don't condone the vitriol and hatred directed at the people who have no control over the company's doings, I do however support total abandonment of their business, and simply letting them figure things out and either improve dramatically, or die a swift, painful death for their failure. That is fine. Vote with your wallet. Don't send death threats to people because someone did something you didn't like. I mean some people on the Fallout 76 reddit claimed that they received death threats because they admitted that they were subscribed to the Fallout 1 service. To be honest I've pretty much grown weary of the moral outrage over games. People now and days are selective on where they want to direct their outrage to. In a way as much I don't agree with what Bethesda is offering to the subscription at least it tells me the game isn't dead despite Youtubers saying that this game will die. The outrage over it is pretty funny.

But by the time Wastelanders drop I will definitelkly be back in Appalachia.

FO76 has been nothing but a comedy of errors. If your enjoying the game then you do you and keep on enjoying it. I never played it and never will, but the amount of incompetence Bethesda has shown with this game is a testament to the Bethesda company culture and the disconnect within it.
I'm done with Bethesda. Not because of FO76 alone, it started before that. waiting to see what happens with the next DA game before I decide if I write Bioware off. Too many other studios around to fill the void Bioware and Bethesda has left in their shift to "other" priorities.

It's almost as if someone is actively sabotaging them and they're constantly trying to save face.

It's not sabotage. It's a B-team trying to get along with a SP engine duct-taping it on the go for a live-service MP game. Well, it could be self-sabotage - like in the original meaning of the word.

I know it's not sabotage (far as I know), just feels like this flagship title is a plane, and the garbage code in their engine is the gremlin tearing the engines apart.
