I hope not. I don't mind a gay elf romance or even someone with a soft personality, but I hope they're not femme at all. Maybe they should make the prettiest gay male elf ever, super pretty and feminine, almost like a girl, but make him a complete brash, deep voiced, barfight starting, foul mouthed, testosterone driven, dirty lil' fucker. That's my aesthetic actually. That's what I want. I want this. To each their own, but I wouldn't be a fan of such a character. The personality is okay, but the looks? No thanks. I want to romance a man who looks like a man. Speaking of, I would actually like to have more gay male characters that actually have brusque personalities. I don't need them to be an over-the-top caricature of a manly man or a grade-A douchebag, but someone who has a bit more 'bite' to them would be great.

I'm fine as long as we get a well-made, lore-relevant gay guy. The looks don't matter a lot to me, as long as they look unique. Of course, my true weakness is Blackwall looking and sounding men, and I have a soft spot for guys like Samson who look, well, rough. But we haven't had a gay elf yet (and gay qunari and dwarves probably won't happen, not male ones at least), so I think it's time for a gay elf. ALL the Bioware gay men have been human. I don't want another gay human honestly. Maybe DA5, but NOT DA4. Give me something NEW. I'd like a gay male character who doesn't become bff's with the protagonist. Something a bit more harder to chew please.

I know a lot of people were taken aback by his looks in DAI, but I personally loved how weathered and weary he looked in it. And yeah, I do agree having a gay non-human would be a nice change of pace, but its the whole femme thing I'm personally wary of.

Well we can go with a manly elf too but it'd be pretty cool to get a mix of feminine appearance and masculine personality. I like mix-and-matching those aspects together, because I find it interesting and amusing. But a gay elf, whether masculine looking or not, would be cool. Oh god, Samson. His voice, his everything... should've made him a romance, and gay too. I HAVE to go the mage route every time because I WANT Samson in all my playthroughs! Sans his receeding hairline, he looks pretty freaking stunning honestly.

Definitely would've romanced him too, even if he wasn't gay.

I do not get the obsession with Samson. Especially in DAI, he just reminds me of the creepy janitor in the Harry Potter movies. Lol.

And what's not hot about a creepy janitor? given the fact he means Filch...yeah, I can't see the appeal either Though there are various manga out there with janitors of various styles, and some of them aren't so bad
as to Samson...eh...no, not my type either

Samson may have once been a good person before his descent into lyrium addiction and expulsion from the Templars, but he shows no signs of being one anymore by the time of DAI, having let his bitterness and resentment towards the Chantry consume him.
His situation was tough and I do feel bad for him being addicted to lyrium and forced to go through withdrawal after he was kicked out of the Templars... but no-one forced him to join Corypheus or start taking Red Lyrium. The game suggest he did these things entirely of his own volition, as well as convinced other Templars to start taking Red Lyrium as well, even despite knowing what it would do to him/them.
We saw from Cullen that it's getting clean from Lyrium is a long and difficult process, so I'm not saying that it would have been easy for Samson if he'd tried to go that route (because maybe he had many times). But even remaining as an addict and trying to manage his cravings, surely there were other ways Samson could have gotten a regular enough fix, ones that didn't involve him taking tainted lyrium or joining up with a Darkspawn Magister hellbent on destroying the world?
Samson's definitely an interesting character to me because of how they explore the effects and ramifications of lyrium addiction with Templars, but I do not at all understand the urge people have to want to romance him comes from?
I can see him being fascinating as a "for want of a nail" version of Cullen, but he seems to lack any redeemable qualities that Cullen had, which offset those moments in DAO and DA2 when Cullen did act like a paranoid jerkass towards mages.

I don't care about redeeming qualities as long as the romance is good. The only thing that matters to me in a romance that it's a male x male romance and that it's good. Pishposh about redeeming qualities and who is worthy of love and who isn't. I think Samson sounds hot, he looks kinda edgy and hot (to me) and I like his antagonistic position. All of that appeals to me. And the beauty and the beast aesthetic is my jam.

Plus, the whole point of fantasy romances is to go for people that would maaaaybe be challenging in real life. ...I say, as I personally beeline for the most easygoing, level-headed LI option in every game. It took work to make one of my Inquisitors go for Solas, every cell in my body was screaming at her to say “ok, bye then” every time he pulled that hard-to-get bullshit. Not because of the eventual dumping, but because I have no patience for all that coy nonsense.

I tend to go for the one who has the best balance of the four traits: roleplayability, plot relevance, looks and personality, satisfying happy ending. In DA:I, Dorian had plot relevance, and Iron Bull had looks and personality as well as roleplayability. But my canon Inquisitor deserves better so he is single.

Honorary mentions go to Zevran who tries to kill you, and Isabela who smashes some guy's head into a bar and then beats up all his buddies. -2 points each for lack of actual murdering. (actually Nate doesn't even really count since he only contemplated doing so but got caught before he could carry it out)
also she got tired of people whining about her decisions (*cough* Alistair *cough*) despite making her the leader of their band of misfits, there's that too

Just as long as it's something that builds up over the course of the game and builds off of friendship and respect.
As opposed to spending most of the game in the friend zone and is capped by an unskippable quasi-porn scene.

The problem with Samson is they trot out his "I helped some mages find love and lost my job!" sob story out as if it's the ONLY story. After he's already an addict, in DA2 he gets caught up in mages again. Then decides in the Twilight hour that he's gotten in too deep. He thinks these folks are a bit crazy and he's off to run to the Templars to drag them there to take care of the problem. That's double crossing your group when you think they're going to lose anyway. HE's an effing coward. Shuttling some letters was probably done in a "eh, it's just paper" wink wink kind of half assed thinking that would have flown just fine under any other Commander, but he worked for MEredith. So 1, he did not think he was risking anything when he helped with the letters (so, not heroic). 2, he was an idiot that didn't realize Meredith was two steps above a Hard Ass when it came to punishment. So there I've gone and proven he's a cowardly idiot traitor. He didn't follow the rules, and got kicked. That's not a sob story. He joined up with the mages (probably because they had access to lyrium) and then betrayed them. Then because the whole world turn on poor little Samson, they all deserved to burn. So sure as pink on a nugs bottom was he going to join up for some red lyrium and make all the groups that had treated him badly pay. He's not making a stand-- he's that kid that got bullied a little who then showed up to gun all his classmates. A murderer, not someone to be pitied. And you can have him hung for his involvement in DA2 and that gets ignored for him to play a key role in DAI to rub my nose even more in it, I can't even definitively have him Axed in DAI for no reason that makes any sense. Which implies they actually might consider using this sorry excuse of a human again?! in future story. Fingers crossed he died a horrible and slow red lyrium death in my dungeons. That barely covers what he deserves considering he knowingly did the same to thousands of others.
