Lady Insanity made a vid talking about the gameplay changes. Namely the stuff you do in Mass Effect; riding a mech and driving a mech. You can infiltrate wearing Zakuulan armor as well. And some other things. There's always will be trash mobs tho. Oh look, a dead man walking:) Actually, he is too in real life. I hope that makes you happy. |

I see, that really sucks and I'm so sorry to hear it. I think it's a bit unfair, however, that you'd to put me on the spot like that simply because I don't like a video game character you enjoy. Expecting everyone to know all about the personal ongoings of other people is stretching it s bit much I think. Outside of maybe two characters I know he has voiced I don't really know much about him. I have respect for Erik as a voice actor, he's quite good, but I don't care for Arcann. In retrospect, my post was meant to be a glib remark towards the fact that my Sith character wants Arcann dead by adding a smiley (admittedly, I do see now that smiley didn't post properly so the intentions of my post came out different it seems), and me personally since I don't really like any of the characters in the expansion and find them to be generally poorly written. I am glad that you enjoy him though, it's not that I don't find anything about the expansion enjoyable. I enjoyed the class stories and characters enough to keep playing, and wanting to find out what happens to them and finally getting to end The Emperor for good. So far, they've managed to characterize him well at least. Nothing of this has anything to do with the actor personally though.  So to answer your question. No it does not make me happy, I am mortified by all of it. I wish him the best in his fight to beating it, and hope he continues to do what he does best. |

I really don't like to be abrupt and I'm aware that not many know about it and I couldn't blame that either. It doesn't change the fact that the actual person is dying and his fate is just as rocky as Arcann's. I've known it for nearly a year now and I have no idea what his current prognosis is but he's trying to positive about life in general and if it made him feel appreciated and happy for a bit that a random internet stranger like me still love his character so much that I want him to stay with the game as long as he can, then its worth it. These last couple days, I've been fielding replies from everyone who hate him and wanted him to die on both main forum and reddit and it started to get to me. Yes, its no-brainer that Arcann isn't the most well likable man in the game, he did tried to kill you, he kill many people, he have daddy's issue and rage issues and stuff but his fate depended largely on you. Whether you want to kill him or not, its not really that secret since KOTFE that you can choose that consequence. It is just a Bioware game after all. |

Yeah aoibhealfae that was out of line. It's one thing to be a tad obnoxious about a fictional character (I'm sure most of us have been there at one point) it's quite another to throw out a remark like that. And frankly, that link doesn't change my opinion on Arcann one bit. I for one still think he's overrated and overblown with plot powers not seen since Kai Leng. Not as lame, but around the same zone. His voice actor on the other hand is quite talented, and I'm sorry to hear he has health issues. Hopefully he makes a speedy and full recovery. To quote some dude that may have written a song once: you gotta keep'em separated. Anyway, in other news, I finally finished KOTFE in its entirety for DvL. And yeah... super meh. When I played the first part last year I did it with an insta 60 that I treated as a new character, a Jedi that worked with some of the original heroes who have since vanished, off doing their own things. This time I had to play with a DvL character so I chose my knight clone 4 or 5.0. And yeah, what I did the first time definitely works better. People that complained about their former powerful characters being gimped in the story weren't kidding. Also, despite the claim that the story favors the Knight, it sure wasn't working for my Knight. Possessed by Valkorion, forced to rely on him more and more; even if you refuse his power the shenanigans of chapter 12 still force you to come around closer to his point of view, especially when Satele and Marr show up and start spouting the new-age crap. The story definitely favors a Force user but the Force aspects are the weakest parts of it. Honestly the best part of the story overall is the opposite of the Force stuff- SCORPIO, GEMINI and the Eternal Fleet. I wanna know more about that.
Oh, and speaking of Arcann what was that last minute conversion to the light side? This ain't Robot Chicken. When Vaylin screamed "why?" I kinda had to go "yeah, I'd like some answers on that front myself". For 99% of his screentime he's been an unrepentant douche. We don't live in the kind of world where my Knight shieldsmacking some sense into him is a thing so what gives?
Ultimately I think overall, the failing comes down to this: the story isn't really Stars Wars anymore and it's certainly not TOR. The weakest sections are the ones where they try and mush the two together- Valkorion (is he really Vitiate? we don't know so you probably never will) and his kids, the beyond light and dark stuff.... honestly it makes me miss the Revan wanking of SoR. The other stuff, the technologically superior Empire whose society is decadent and hollow and where did all the tech come from, that's the interesting part. And that could both fit into an existing Star Wars framework easier than the Force stuff, but it could also be its own story easier as well.
Anyway, not overly impressed. At least this next one comes out in one shot and hopefully it'll finish this arc and they can move on to something else. Not holding my breath though. At least I got my full set of XP armor. |

I've never liked Arcann's design. His disappointment and need to get his father's approval works only up to a point. On its own it is not enough, so he sadly remains an onedimensional villain with BS powers.
Even worse though is the emergency surgery performed on him when he gets injured in the trailer. Ok fine, I can see why one of the leaders of your army needs to get back into the fight as soon as possible... but installing an artificial arm while the patient is rolling around in the dirt? Installing it over his dirty clothes? Are you telling me that the advanced army med droid who must have carried that spare arm to the front lines didn't have a sterile med bay in some support shuttle somewhere? Or is Arcann immune to infections thanks to his BS powers? I'm not even going to mention physiotherapy...
And then there is the mask. I know Darth Vader was scary and imposing because of his mask/helmet but that doesn't mean every villain needs to wear one. Oh well, guess it's a Star Wars standard.
We never see it but I really hope Arcann can remove his mask to eat, otherwise the design becomes truly stupid.
The only part about Arcann I like is that he's wearing white clothes, in defiance of the evil = dark trope.

The major problem is with all Bioware narrative was the pinhole narrative you experience as a game protagonist. Its still a first person narrative with you as an observer interacting with the world around you. You only face off with Arcann thrice in the entirety of KOTFE; chapter 1, chapter 8 and chapter 16. That's still not enough anything to learn more about his character. Everything you learn about him was secondhand from someone else. Same as why a lot of folks seem to like Vaylin because she's a simple psychotic brat on power trip with a template archetypes of Morinth + Jack + Jaesa and yet fanboys still want to romance her despite the VA herself telling everyone that Vaylin would eat them. Like really, Vaylin would love to bang you and throw you off from the cliff because you gave her odd numbered orgasms.
I actually like that Scorpio now try to mother her and pointblank said that she's acting like a petulant child. Love you Scorpie.
Arcann is more of "I want to hang you on the wall for eternity" type. With silk or leather... hmm

Only thing about Arcann I know is that he's really dead set against Valkorion. Is it just because he never gets the approval he always wanted or is it something else in the past? We don't know. He fights the Outlander because he doesn't see her / him as the Outlander, he sees his father. Why did he choose to go against Vaylin? I always have the feeling that inside, he's afraid of her. I see it in the cautious conversations he had with her.
Was he afraid she would kill him next after killing Senya? Was it an act of self preservation when he stopped Valin? Or was he moved a little by Senya's clear determination to save him, that she's still his mother, that she loves him.

The main problem with a lot of BioWare narratives of today is that you never feel like you're the center of the story despite being the protagonist, like what aoib' said. You're an obsever as opposed to a motivator, the story moves beside you, and despite your character being in a lofts position of power they can't delegate for crap. The stories tend to emphasize too much on spectacle and wanting choices to 'matter' instead of building a coherent narrative where you feel in control of your actions and those actions feels like they matter. This is something I think CD Projekt does well.

There's also the strange bit with Valkorion. Do you realize that everyone in the family talks about how the Emperor is absent and hardly acknowledge them and barely notice them.... and how Valkorion seemed unusually chatty with you. Damn suspicious.... I rather like to think that Arcann is afraid for her rather than being afraid at her. He is her big brother after all who is still keeping her on a leash. He does seem to be more troubled that she have absolute no empathy for everyone except herself. She randomly kill people just for fun, when she only remembered Thexan because of his gifts from the conquered world, when she talk about their mother. He does seemed more angry when she gloat about telling their mother about him killing Thexan. Also how quickly he defended Senya....  scary I understand Arcann better for what he is but Vaylin is too unpredictable and impulsive that's almost childlike that its kinda scary how I can't read her beyond thinking... she would make a certain Ramsay Bolton feel kinship... Gosh, this whole family need a therapy. |

"We will how this goes." Err... what? Is he trying to channel this guy?:  They could've used those cutscenes to expore more of his character or his relationship with his sister but it's the same damn thing every time. Hell Vaylin gets more out of those than he does, we see some nice trolling from her. Oh and to the people claiming she's a complety random mad dog- I don't see it. Like at all. Sociopathic yes, zero concern for the wellbeing of others, of course. But there's a deliberateness to her toying with everyone. Yes it genuinely amuses her but that's not the same as saying that merely being in a room with her carries a random high probability of her killing you. All her interactions with Arcann made it seem like there was a higher game being played, like she could see more than we did. I honestly thought she'd straight up play and eventually betray him, unlike the sizable "huh?" we actually got. And no, for the last freakin time, Jaesa is nothing like her. At best Jaesa is a try hard pale imitation of the real thing that is Vaylin (even though she was created first). And as she plays her game, she herself can still be played with... and yes, in that way as well. Come on Bioware! My inquisitor needs this! Look what you've left him with! |

She manipulate others so they do whatever she wants but she also quick to blame them for incompetence even if it was her own. She lack the tolerance for even the slightest amount of frailty. She mocked her mother because she's too weak to kill her. Her character tend to be limited to either you're with her or against her. She sees the later as a complete betrayal. Her fixation on her mother and the abandonment she felt simply intensify her animosity because that was familiar to her. While she let Scorpio by her side, that cooperation shouldn't last long, Vaylin is too self-serving to be ruled by a machine no less. In other word, she's a narcissist with sociopathic tendencies. She would tie you up and make you a eunuch and eat sausages in front of you. |

They do reveal move about Vaylin and none of it fits (or rather necessarily leads to) the hyperbole here and anywhere anyone tries to make a comment about her. I submit that a full on insano/snarky inquisitor is just as bad if not worse than she is. Also, if anything I'd expect SCORPIO to betray her before the opposite. As far as we know Vaylin's never actually betrayed anyone. Her "why?" to Arcann says it all. She's truly shocked and hurt by his actions. She expected him to die (as in be killed, hoisted by his own petard), she did not expect him to lash out against her. Yes, my inquisitor would have a field day with her. Such delicious manipulations, think of the murder and mayhem that await. It may be his finest project yet. |

I'm excited for the new chapters (even if I do hate all the skytrooper mobs). I'm going to miss getting chapters every month and having to wait months and months for the next batch of story. But I am glad they are making new uprisings and such for people who want to play those.
I think Arcann never trusted Vaylin and I don't think he ever really hated Senya. I think his issues were purely with his daddy. I think when he heard his mothers words about saving him, knowing she came to save him and Vaylin after all they'd done, he couldn't let Vaylin hurt her.
I'm interested to see it play out. I've stayed away from the videos (even though I know what is going to happen) just because I want to see it happen to my Consular and not someone elses character.
Hopefully we can get together and do some uprising just to see how they play if everyone is interested.

On recordings. The game looks nice and sharp when I play it but when I record it and play back, the gamma is just too bright. I'm using Bandicam, does anyone know how to fix the gamma? Or is it impossible to adjust it?

Still FRAPSing, old school style. Files come out nice but huge. I still need a good editor. Had to buy another external to dump my knight's files on so I could finish DvL. Eventually I'll have to edit them and convert to a more manageable size.

For some reason, I don't have the nvidia geforce experience program with the new card so I downloaded it just now. Slow as a tortoise and unable to detect my rig. Stupid program. |

Bought a couple cheap 50% off decorations from cartel market. Gonna put a casino table on my guildship. Also I got a new huge deco with what radiant crystals I have.  I soooo hate EV. I've been mulling about subbing today but not sure the walker is worth it (I know that it got flourish but I prefer yavin 4 walker where I could see my toon) and its not like I could level to 70 until I get the expansion on the 3rd December. I also hate to waste my sub time. Strangely enough, nobody buy my legendary companion gifts on my main for a couple of days and yet when I redistribute it among my alts, magically they're all snatched up. Heh... too bad, 5.0 will mean another GTN inflation |
