When censoring a word for all, even if it may have something to do with mental health- like autism, out of jokes than you're also censoring people who suffer from deep bouts of their autism daily from being able to use a possible coping mechanism of joking about it in random conversations anywhere it's needed. Like myself. It's one of my main coping mechanisms, to try and just laugh about it when I'm at my worst especially when I'm in my only social interaction method- online. I sincerely hope that the people who decided this actually do suffer from it themselves and can understand the many parts and ways people use for coping with it. Thanks for that Ash, we should clarify the 'joke' section in SJ's post. We're only talking about specific incidents here, where it's used as an attack and in an insulting or a demeaning way. Where referencing autism is done to make someone seem less worthy, implying that those with the condition are somehow less than everyone else. The incident this sprung from was when the term 'autistic screeching' was used and some users of the thread took offence to it, calling in the moderators as they believed it was out of line. I've never know anyone do that to you, or for a light-hearted, self deprecating comment. It's always about the context, and when determining our actions many voices chime in behind the scenes to make sure we're reading it the correct way. |

Different standards I guess - I rather enjoy it. I see a genuine attempt to find some common ground between mods and the members of this forum. An option sorely lacking on BSN Prime... I really value this post. Mods and posters disagree sometimes but I cherish that this forum doesn't prevent or even punish the discussion of moderation decisions.  |

That includes a list of past moderation actions and a list of other reports that have been made against the poster (oh dear I do really have a list where people weren't happy with me for one reason or other). Great, DKR has arrived on the scene. (Copy in spoiler tag above) There are really 2 steps. 1. Do we need to do something with the post? 2. Does the poster get some punishment? In this case, it looks like DragonKingReborn views the report as straight-forward enough to issue an immediate response and penalty. The report stays open so that other moderators can take a look. I'd say most reports are dealt with straight away (or not dealt with if it's felt the post can stay). Punishment is a different matter, we usually like 3 moderators to post to agree on the penalty before action unless it's dead obvious/blatant. The staff notes get updated and after a few days if no-one has anything to add it gets archived. I hope this is of interest, does anyone have any questions about how it works. |

Although, in this instance, that probably wouldn't be done as the post clearly warranted a Formal PM warning that further infractions would result in a ban. So, no PM saying "post moved", but a PM saying "don't do that again, or else". |

That's kind to say. I guess one point I'd like to draw is that whilst moderators may appear to act alone, you can see that every moderation decision is laid bare for all other moderators to see and debate. it's pretty hard for a moderator to wage a personal moderation spree without other mods going 'hey!'... None of us are perfect, I can recall two moderation decisions I made in the last year - one the other mods told me I'd got it wrong so I walked it back and squared things with the person I'd moderated, and the second triggered much debate in the mod cave with a close decision in favor of what I did, but that it was a close decision which now informs my thinking on where the line is. Live and learn. Or put it another way, around 95% of moderation decisions are seen and decided upon by multiple moderators and with unanimous agreement.  |

An announcement - Given the continual circular venting here in the 'About Moderation' thread the team has decided that it is unsustainable in its current form and will be locked. Going forward, if anyone has a concern or issue about moderation please send it by PM to one or all of us, and we'll take a look at it. The current moderators are: ArcadiaGrey DragonKingReborn Heimdallmousestalker Obsidian Gryphonregack SofaJockey All moderators will simply be known as 'moderators', and in DragonRacer and Cyonan 's absence we have received the admin tools required to fully operate and run the forum. Emergencies aside, moderators will normally confer to reach a sufficient consensus before action. Therefore when you read a moderating post from one moderator, it is the decision of the whole team and will have been discussed by at least 3 of us backstage. |

Since it has come up a couple of times in the past 24 hours, a quick refresher seems appropriate.
With a few, very specific exceptions, no "words" are censored or outlawed here. Context and intent inform how individual words are viewed by moderators when seen in reports or seen "in the wild". Some words are only used with the intent to incite negative responses - this is bad faith and actioned accordingly, but the word itself is generally not the issue.
I personally - and the whole team is as one on this - don't give a fuck, if you use the word 'fuck'.
What you may not do, is suggest or tell another user to 'fuck off'. You may not say, 'fuck off, asshole', either. Although this should be obvious as it includes a personal attack - 'asshole'. Whether or not you - or the entire forum - consider the poster in question to be an asshole is irrelevant.
Again, this is a refresher on a rule that has existed since the start. Nothing new here, either in the rules or in how they are applied.
