Loving it. After the first trailer I was worried, but I got the Saint’s Row game I wanted for nearly 10 years. Not surprised the internet hate train has chosen poorly again... Yeah i ttends t o be a trend with games these days. I don' tthink it's for me but unlik esome I don' tcriticize other people for liking it.

At best, it’s a lifeless, dated game filled with forgettable characters and boring repetitive missions. At worst, it’s a confirmation of all the criticism that was leveled at it since the first trailer.

I’ve enjoyed it. Is it perfect? No, but you’re expecting too much if you expect anything mind blowing from a Saints Row game. Every game in the series has basically been the same thing with a few modifications, kill the other local gangs to rise to that top with lots of crude humor thrown in.
I’ve liked the new gang, the new locale, the music stations (The DJ for the classical music station is voiced by Ashley Williams’ VA) and I’ve experienced no game ruining glitches. The gun selection could be better, but nothing else really bothers me.

Yet we still had lovable but sadistic characters. The new gang are the type of people that the original Saints (or at least Gat) would kneecap them with a shotgun for being hipster douchebag pretenders.
Also, the missions/side activities were FAR more interesting and the stories themselves were more cohesive in past games (except maybe SR3 but that's when the series jumped the Shark). This game's has little sense of story progression and the rival gangs are forgettable at best and incredibly annoying at worse.

This is turning out to be as close to a sequel to Sunset Overdrive as we're likely to get.

Personally, I like the new team. Especially Neenah and the boss. Hell, them having a cat as a member instantly puts them on my approval list. People really need to get over this the new cast are hipster losers mentality. That’s what’s in, the days of gang banging gangstas in Saints Row are over. Get used to it or move on. I really don’t see how you can think the missions/side quests in the original series were any more interesting than the ones in the new game. In some cases, they’re exactly the same as they were in the originals. Insurance fraud anyone? I have no problem with the gangs either. Los Panteros are Los Carnales, the Idols are The Deckers and Marshall is Ultor. No more, no less. The new game may not be some groundbreaking game, but it’s no less than any of the other games in the franchise.

I think it's a downgrade compared to Saints Row 4. I'm no Saints Row purist, I only enjoyed the 4 because it was totally wacky and over the top. The only thing really better is the map, but the city was fairly awful in SR4. Granted it was supposed to be an alien simulation so whatever. The music was great, some moments were really hilarious, the superhero gameplay was a blast and sure there was some annoying grind but I remember just putting the radio on, flying around smashing all the things and unplugging my brain. And Zinyak.
In here, everyone is all "we're gonna karaoke" but there's never a real cool moment of having fun with your crew. It just feels like a bad Friends episode. The gameplay is also meh, the only new thing is taking pictures, otherwise it's mostly shooting, driving, shooting, driving. The quests also are meh. In SR4, you had playing an old fighting game, a text base RPG quest, ending up a stripper, ending up in a 60's simulation, Tron remake etc...

You're right.
Take it and enjoy it. I don't need it anymore.
You hit the nail right on the head.
It was written by those whose primarily consume godawful cosmopolitan comedies instead of the edgy crime thrillers and black comedies of the past writers.
No edge and no spice.
Thankfully, the game will be forgotten in a few months and that's my final take on this game.

I had some fun with it. Lasted me a few days. Yes it was packed with bugs and weak gameplay and content that was mediocre. Though the critical path ended with a satisfying conclusion.
I suspect I will quickly forget about the game.

Finished it last week. It was just okay. My biggest issue was the repetition involved with many of the games ventures. Just turned my brain off at one point. One of the ventures was so braindead easy, you just had to wait for a vehicle to show up, hijack it, and bring it back. They appear randomly across the map, and I found a way to consistently get them to spawn right near the venture building I needed to take them to.
The other thing I absolutely hated Volition bringing back was that damn passive income bullshit. It's the only way you can make a decent modicum of money in this game. I wanted there to be more engaging avenues for money making, but there's no dedicated activity in the game that will net you anything above $30K in one go. Hell, the number I just listed is the most you'll typically get if you fully complete a venture quest. What pisses me off even more about it is that you literally have a venture that's involved in Robberies. Here's the fun twist [sarcasm], YOU don't get to do the robbery. The NPCs with you do it. Youre the getaway driver, which is already a position one of your companions [Neenah] is already good at. FFS, you literally go rob a bank! And the reward you get from doing so? $8k...
Frustrations aside, and there were plenty, there were times when I was able to have fun in the game. I think the customization is probably some of the best the series has had, though modifying faces seems to have been based solely on presets; not free-form. The concept of ventures wasn't a bad idea either, but there needed to be way more variety in how you tackled each event. They could have just stood to have been major sidequests instead.
I think the reviews for the game are fair, and the amount of bugs and technical problems I saw just left me feeling disappointed with Volition. Don't know how much of this amounted to bad decision making, or just having to cut corners due to Covid issues. Either way, I won't miss this game that much.

That’s what the first three Saints Row and the franchise in general was built on. Shooting, driving, shooting, driving, eliminating rival gangs, etc. Saints Row 4 was the exception and people complained that it got too far from what Saint Row was all about. 4 shouldn’t be looked at for what to expect in general from Saints Row.

I've been playing the game for about 20 hours. The prologue was....ok I guess. Saints Row the 3rd had the best prologue. I do like the ability to shove a grenade down the enemies' pants then throw them back into other enemies. The activities I like. Customizing the main character is good. I like the share stuff. I play 10 minutes, then download a different looking character. My favorite voice is #6. The problem I have is with the side characters. I would rather have Larry, Curly and Moe instead.
