It's not so much that Trek presents itself as realistic, it's that it takes itself seriously. That is, it tries to be internally consistent, even if it's not perfect at it.

Anyway, is the question which universe would you rather live in, or which fandom would you rather be stuck with? Because replies seem to be responding to both.
