Him calling DAV the best in the series is comedy gold. Never heard of this YTer, so thanks for explaining how that insane claim came about. I guess when you don't actually care about good writing and choices in a bloody RPG of all things then the game is good, lol. Morti has reviewed hundreds if not thousands of game in his channel and is a self-made sort of professional with his own ethics, which is discussed in some of his other videos. One cannot do this for a living if one does not shut down any kind of resonance or bias. While many people of this forum seem to be looking for things that resonate with their personal expectations and impressions, including me, Morti lets you see from a distance without that type of resonance in a more or less objective manner. For this to happen, anything related to individual preferences has to disappear, and Morti is mostly able to accomplish this. By ignoring everything that usually makes an RPG great? Made BioWare RPGs great? OK then... Look, I know my opinion is just an opinion. And biased as everyone else's. But seriously, what kind of review ignores all hallmarks of a good RPG, ignores all the stuff that previous BioWare games did so much better and calls it the best in the series? That's a bold claim and judging by the comments, plenty of people who trusted his opinion before are raising an eyebrow. A lot of gamers care much more about gameplay than writing. And that's fair. Makes sense. I'm not like that but I understand how games are supposed to be fun to play and not just to listen to. Lots of people hate cutscenes and games that feel more like movies than games, I love them. We all like different things, but I used to think people liked BioWare games for the same reasons I did. But going by today I'm not so sure anymore. I guess the fanbase has shifted A LOT if DAV is acceptable quality now.

Weekes wrote Mordin! How do you get from writing one of the best character arcs in gaming to THIS drivel??? I do not understand. I could shoot Mordin in the back, I could drive Tali to suicide. How did we get here??? I do not understand. I both shot Mordin in the back with his own Carnifex and drove Tali to suicide after massacring her entire people. It's flaws are undeniable, but ME3 has an honorary place in my OG Bioware list. The sad part about the quarian showing off her diving skills over the cliff is there wasn't an interrupt for my Shepard to push her

I gave Andromeda a 6/10 and DAV looks so much worse at first glance. So anything better than 6 is extremely generous in my head. I guess I'd have to give it like a 4 at least for being playable or something... Andromeda had in my opinion what was hitherto the best gameplay in any Bioware game. That kept me playing it for far longer than I should have. Now I only hope that DAV can at least get the gameplay somewhat right, somewhat enjoyable.

I could ignore or accept a lot of things but the dialogue is a deal breaker to me. I find Purple Hawke insufferable but at least that was a choice I had to make.
If everyone and everything is some varying degrees of irreverent, light-hearted, and jokey then I don't care. HARD no.
And the pop ups that make sure I know I made some kind of choice leading to a specific direction are insulting. These were always invisible. Now I have everything spelled out for me. Cool RPG.

Fextralife, which is generally trustworthy IMO, decided to speak up on the matter of DAV reviews and made a very reasonable video about it, which I think is addressing many concerns.

Each reviewer has their own particular prejudices. I feel like the action combat of Veilguard suited Morti more while Skillup just isn't a fan of DA in general. Morti considers it his personal game of the year even though it won't be for everyone and will turn off quite a few people (like people who liked Origins) which is fair, Skillup seems to be considering more Bioware's roots in his review.
Because they're both at opposite ends of the spectrum it's probably for the best that people either find people who's opinion on games reflect their own and look at their review, or just wait for a broader spread.
It's like Starfield when IGN I think was the first reviewer who rubbished the game when a lot of others had positive things to say, and Paul Tassi was like well that's obviously a trash review, and later on we found out who's review was actually the trash one ...

Andromeda also had the mutiplayer, which was able to hold some of my interested, and your interest as well, for an extra 100+ hours. This multiplayer was on the annoying side but had its good moments. DAV does not seem to have anything of the sorts at release.

I remember all the digging players had to do to figure out each game's systems when it came to approval ratings - and with respect to Origins, how impactful your decisions were on factions later- because they were subtle in many cases but still very purposeful. I'm probably not going to miss that in certain circumstances because there are a few times where bugs kept it from working right, but yeah, some of the other notifications seem way too superfluous now that I've actually pondered their relevance in terms of reactivity. Like it's obviously one thing to get a notification about something pretty important to the plot or character dev, but if there really is an excessive amount of this for minutiae I'm going to wish there was a toggle option for them.

Andromeda had in my opinion what was hitherto the best gameplay in any Bioware game. That kept me playing it for far longer than I should have. Now I only hope that DAV can at least get the gameplay somewhat right, somewhat enjoyable. Combat was the most competent part of the game but I vastly prefer ME3. They got rid of the orgasmic biotic boom, scandal. The sound design was so poor it wasn't even funny. ME3(MP) was the most fun I've ever had with combat in any game to this day. That was lightning in a bottle to me. Probably will never be topped.

From what has been shown so far, I wouldn't be surprised if I give DAV a low score.

But going by today I'm not so sure anymore. I guess the fanbase has shifted A LOT if DAV is acceptable quality now. Yes, yes, and yes. That's what Morti does. I don't judge as it works for him, but I agree with you completely on these points. However, I have the "no" on the fan base. Fans are the players who tend to stick around for the discussions of everything the game has, including lore, companions, decision, plot, etc. My prediction is that DAV will not be very memorable in these aspects and therefore will have very small fan base if none because there does not seem to be much to stick to. I think, for most players, it is going to be just another reasonable action game in a specific setting with fairly linear story. Liking a game and being a fan are two different things. I am not going to pretend to know how it all turns out. Although, on a general note, an empty shell is just that, which is an empty shell however good or bad looking and enjoyable that might be. So, in the end BW makes good money, most players are happy except a part of the DA and RPG-heavy crowd, and then everyone moves on, and that's the end of it.

But since we're expected to treat BioWare games as their own thing now that's the best I could do even for THAT mind bending goalpost moving exercise... If the snippets of dialogue I've seen so far are representative of the entire games then DAV is a 1/10 as a DA game unless 0/10 is an actual score, then I'll go with the latter. (Yes, I'm serious.)

I think the fascination with jetpacks collided with the harsh reality that a character in the open for everyone to shoot at simply is not a good idea. Melee was a step back from ME3 and if there was any kind of variety in the weapons it got quickly drowned in overall bullet spongism. Which in turn made the powers feel like wet towel unless you stacked all the stats to make it work mid way through the game.

ME3(MP) was the most fun I've ever had with combat in any game to this day. That was lightning in a bottle to me. Probably will never be topped. I personally think that Warframe in its current iteration is considerably better by a margin. The main Warframe quests have largerly formed quite strong engagement/attachments, and the community there is outstanding. Gameplay there is modern and vastly superior. If one can get through the initial slog of about 50-100 hours, it offers endless hours of quite enjoyable contents.

I would give it a 2/10 if we can kill Solas in the game, however the dialogue, the gameplay and everything else is bizarre to me, enough for me to not take this game seriously.
I was thinking about how Pokémon Black and White, a game for toddlers, has better conflict between adults than what I have seen today in Veilguard. Because they're teaching stuff to mostly, kids. Who the fuck is the target audience of Veilguard that needs to be told that respecting each other's opinions is nice? Still can't wrap my head around this, who in their right mind thought this was acceptable. lol and I wish it was only the 3 interactions I initially saw, but it seems every petty squabble between the companions will be resolved that way, what the actual fuck Bioware.

I haven't played for a long time now but the melee and mobility options were sublime. It wasn't quite there in the beginning but evolved considerably. I know people like to complain about limited character abilities, but when you play an action game less is more when the playstyles of diffent kits are really diverse.

It really seems limiting the companion list is one of the biggest mistakes they've made, as well as making them all instead of a core few mandatory, and even those could leave depending on your later choices -thinking of Alistair and some in DA 2 as the best example of this. So far I've heard only a few instances where reactions have a true impact and even that is temporary. There was so much potential if they really devoted themselves in terms of player choice like in previous games. It's so interesting to me because I remember Weekes et al talking about how grim the game could get and it's more than apparent that those claims for the most part are just hype in some circumstances that should matter.

And this is to be focused on the characters like ME 2? If this is the quality of writing, then I don't expect much.
As for trusting IGN - they haven't been credible in over a decade (or more). I'm sure some do still trust them, but no one I know trusts IGN for reviews.

Speaking of Andromeda, someone showed some examples of facial animations and they were not good at all. One character was supposed to be angry and the VA was even shouting but the animation made them look bored at best.

Andromeda had in my opinion what was hitherto the best gameplay in any Bioware game. That kept me playing it for far longer than I should have. Now I only hope that DAV can at least get the gameplay somewhat right, somewhat enjoyable. Really? I think the fascination with jetpacks collided with the harsh reality that a character in the open for everyone to shoot at simply is not a good idea. Melee was a step back from ME3 and if there was any kind of variety in the weapons it got quickly drowned in overall bullet spongism. Which in turn made the powers feel like wet towel unless you stacked all the stats to make it work mid way through the game. Jetpacks allowed for verticality and lateral movement which we hadn't seen before, though the best of it unfortunately could only be fully unleashed in Multiplayer. You were exposed in the air, indeed, but could also quickly dodge from side-to-side. I personally believe the melee was great, especially the Krogan hammer and the Angaran dagger (which again worked much better in MP as there were characters specialized for it). As for the weapons, indeed, I recall most of them lacking impact, except perhaps for some SMGs and a few Pistols, though I haven't really touched than game in 6 or so years so I can't tell for sure right now. In any event, I don't want to stretch this topic too far as this is a DAV thread, but while I think Bioware collapsed in every front post-ME3, I actually believe combat did get a tad better, with Andromeda and even Anthem (though I am sure this is a very unpopular take), and I do have a very slim hope DAV might have an OK combat despite some reviewers negativity towards it.

Yeah I have zero interest in that franchise. My enjoyment of ME3 combat is tightly linked to my unmatched love for the trilogy. The exact same gameplay with a different franchise skin would probably have no appeal to me. If I love a game's world and storytelling fun combat is a boon but not required. My bar for acceptable combat is low. I'm not a particularly good player either and thus don't care for souls-like games, RPG or no. I have never enjoyed a game for the gameplay alone. So how good or bad DAV's combat is is completely irrelevant to me. It doesn't affect my rating unless a game has combat so awful it's a real chore, then I wouldn't give a 10/10 even if thr storytelling was phenomenal. So Mortismal's approach is opposite to mine and therefore completely useless as a reference to me. While SkillUp criticizes everything that matters to me and from the examples he gives it's spot on and I'm in full agreement. Just browsed some of his older reviews because I've only watched a few over the years and I'm definitely not always in agreement. I really enjoyed Biomutant for example once I got over that it's only AA and not what I had hoped initially. He's definitely not the same kind of gamer as me, but as I noted elsewhere I don't have a go to reviewer. I usually skim the cons listed in several reviews and decide whether or not that's something that bothers me.
