The Tranquil skulls stuff always gets me. Always bothers me that we can't punish Fiona for that. Or anyone. Don't care whether it was Fiona or Alexius but someone needed to be called to account for their horrific murder. It's like the writers didn't appreciate they were still people. So far as Fiona was concerned, I wanted her to be tried for selling out the people of Ferelden to Tevinter. She might have claimed that she had majority support of the mages for her action (which I don't think she did) but she was their leader and thus responsible for their actions. The monarch of Ferelden offered them sanctuary and put their own reputation and the goodwill of their people on the line in order to assist them, giving them the most defensive castle in all Ferelden as their refuge. Then what did she do? Surrendered it to the first Tevinter Magister who rolls up. That was treachery at its worst and yet if you conscript the mages instead of allying with them, you are depicted as the bad guy for not wanting to give the poor mages their freedom. Yeh, well I didn't think they deserved it after what they did and their leadership was totally untrustworthy. Yet unlike the Templar guy, Fiona got away Scot free from any punishment. (One of the aspects of Inquisition where I did think the writers let the side down). Still as I also thought the time travel plot was pants, I opted for the Templar path for my canon run, so Fiona didn't survive. I make a point of conscripting the Mages and, in world states where Alistair is the Warden ally, always sacrifice Alistair and inform Fiona. She "disappears" soon after.

I just read this German review that gave the game a 92% even though they admitted the game is boring for the first 20h!!!! Some reviewers have said it is boring for the first 50 hours. I suppose it depends on whether you are doing a speed run or not. The main thing was that one reviewer, I can't remember who, said it was boring for the first 66-75% of the game and then the last bit of around 5 hours, was when it got really interesting. So far as I'm concerned even if it is only 20 hours of slog, that is not appealing to me, particularly as they said that the game play was really repetitive in how you approach and resolve battles and, as I had started to suspect from watching earlier game play videos, most of the fighting is just endless repetition of long drawn out battles against regular opposition interspersed with long drawn out boss fights. Now I have to admit I tend to regard battles as a necessary inconvenience that I have to overcome to get to the next bit of the story. Thus, I put thought into how I can reduce the amount of time I spend on them. It is really satisfying if I can sneak up on an enemy and surprise them with an area of effect spell that takes half of them out of the fight immediately. Then send in the tanks to finish off the rest. Job done and on to the next problem. Something that also concerned me is that one reviewer spoke about spawning enemies that sounded reminiscent of DA2. Surely not? We didn't have that in DAI. You scouted out the battlefield, counted the number of enemies you had to deal with and then did so. Occasionally I would finish a fight only to be mauled by a passing bear but I accepted that as a peril of being out in the wilderness, even if it was annoying. So, I don't know whether I should believe that reviewer or not. I think what seems to have happened is that the lengthy Act 1 is what would originally have been the multi-player game. The other more interesting stuff was likely originally intended to be issued as additional "live service" content. Then when they switched to single player, they had to decide whether to include it in the main game or as DLC. (They mentioned having had this discussion in one of the earlier Dev videos). Likely they realised that people would feel really cheated if the best stuff was kept back for DLC, so they added it in as the final 5-6 hours of the game which is much better than the rest. It remains to be seen whether that is just because of the combat, the narrative or the decision making you can do. However, it is possible there will be some sort of assignment of forces, a bit like in the Battle of Denerim or ME2, so you go off with two companions and opt for other people to perform tasks as you think appropriate. If that actually affected the outcome that would redeem the game somewhat in my eyes. Getting the party composition and assignment of tasks right in ME2 at the end was one of the aspects of the game I did find most satisfying.

Female armor versions often have some boob windows or no pants. It's a bit much sometimes. I'm totally ok, if characters show some skin, but give the option to not do that at least. You really won't like the outfit they put on Isabella then. Incidentally, from what I've seen of the Antaam this game, they could do with some pants. I mean in DA2 they had been shipwrecked and lost a lot of their gear and yet they still wore pants. I just saw the pic. Man I'm not even an Isabela fan and I think she was done dirty.

I've chosen to look at the bright side: I'm getting tons of entertainment, completely free of charge. No need to buy the game.
At this point I'm absolutely certain that I have seen enough to decide that this weird game is not for me. And that's totally alright because there's still lots of publishers and dev studios that make games that I love and enjoy a lot.
Though the response to it sometimes gives me a vaguely disturbing feeling like being one of the last few people that the genestealer cult hasn't gotten to yet.

Come on guys, it's nothing new that mediocre or even bad stuff is popular. It's always been like that. The majority of the people just want to be entertained for a bit and not use their brain. Why is generic pop music so popular, why dumb action movies? It's nothing new. I stopped asking myself a long time ago how people can like certain things. It is how it is so might as well accept it I, too, have questionable taste at times, but that's alright from time to time and I am at least aware I will still try out DAV and judge it on my own in full, I don't give a shit about the money or what others say, but I want to see the elven plot (hopefully) end/resolved. If the game ends up being MEA 2.0 or much worse I don't mind much either. I didn't exactly hate MEA, so it was okay for one run. At least they didn't talk like teenagers talk nowaways. (If they talk at all, after putting their phones down for a whopping minute or two.)

This game has convinced me I didn't give Inquisition a fair shake, so I'll be going back to finish that. Well if you start a new playthrough for God sakes get out of the Hinterlands as fast as possible. Really just stick to the main story and companions you like and it's a good game. I largely ignore the areas not relevant to plot or companion threads. If you don't have any of the DLC's only Trespasser is really necessary (lol I was about to say for DAV....ahhhh!) If you enjoy difficult combat then JOH definitely steps things up...and it has an interesting story...lots of good loot and high tier crafting materials as well...some good lore stuff too...you can also pickup several levels. Didn't much care for Descent but some good engagements and loot...story was okay...weak final boss. It's one of those games that you have to learn how to play "right" to fully enjoy.

Who needs a dark Dragon Age game? I want to be a babysitter. I want to mercilessly and ceaselessly quip with the most whedonesque cookie cutter dialogue imaginable. I don't want tactics. I want Deity of Battle! I don't need the Qunari. I need pronouns and you will respect them, bigot. I don't want Solas. I want saturday morning, mustache twirling, tie a girl to the train tracks, motivated by nothing villains. And if you disagree, in the words of Rook, "I get that". Say it with me now: Return. To. Form.

I did however grow to hate whatever Solavellan has become these days, and the worldstate debacle that showed that only his romance mattered in Veilguard made me lose it.
It is however really, really funny that he was sidelined in favor of double Corypheus, Ghilan'nain even has similar clothes, uses corrupted dragons and stuff.
Even disliking Solas I can see that he would be a far more compelling villain than whatever they're shaping up these two to be, but I fear that Bioware got cold feet about having their precious solavellans have to go against him, to have Solas do even more fucked up stuff required of a villain and shit, which is weird because all they had to do is have him be the liar and manipulator he was always shown to be in DAI, Tevinter Nights and more recently, Vows and Vengeance.
I'm mostly going to play Veilguard for closure, but I'm not even sure we are going to be able to kill him.

I want the OPTION for all that. Because even if I don't do it in one playthrough, I might want to in another. And that's why we continue to play those older games and forever put away MEA and soon DAV forever after a single one. At this point my best case is for EA to shutter Bioware and sell off the ME and DA IP's to a developer that understands RP games are about storytelling and player agency.

The number one reason why I like Bioware games, at least the one's I've played, minus MEA, have replay value. I like for DAV to have that, but what I've seen/heard so far will make it hard to want to complete more than one playthrough

Mind you, we did speculate that those two figures hanging upside down might be two of the Evanuris/Old Gods. There is just the possibility that old blue eyes may be the ultimate boss. I'm sort of a mind to let him destroy the world now. Nuke 'em, Wolfie.

There is no war in Ba Sing Se. There are no comparisons worth acknowledging between God of War and Veilguard. Form Status: Returned Is that true? Where did you find it? It has to be fake surely? Even without conspiring the negative ones, there have been multiple reviews, positive and mid that didn’t mention a return to form, so it seems a bit weird.
