I got all the time off for it. I got that Thursday off regardless because I normally aim/ get haloween off anyways because it’s an important holiday for the wife. But then I put in the rest of the weekend and then I get the monday and tuesday off of the next week. Course given a few other things I am not going to spend the entire time playing. Indeed since she got the time off probably going to see if I can't play something with her too. Unfortunately I work that weekend (the joys of being a healthcare worker), but I at least got that Thursday and Friday off. Oof. My sympathies.

This thread needs more hype. A bit less than 5 weeks now. I payed a bit of AC Valhalla to put me the action game vibe and I can't wait for Veilguard combat. Active blocking, dodging, a few active skills...it's going to be awesome.

Mind you I am also really hoping that if they release the CC early I can just spend the time doing that instead. Also though with some of the Archery abilities and passives and their descriptions in the game it sounds like they are definitley taking a few cues from AC Vs archery system...which is perfect. Because that is probably my favorite archery combat system I have ever played.

ah yes hype.
I'm hyped after seeing the Crimson Tide beat the Bulldogs last night giving a much better chance of getting a bye when the playoffs start.
I'm hyped after downloading a 4gb patch for DAO preventing the game from crashing.
I'm hyped HZD got a remaster that will be released the same day as Veilguard. Hmmm. Since HZD will be on the ps5, I might get the Veil for my computer so I can play both at the same time.
In regards to having hype for the Veil. I'm looking forward to playing the game

I am overwhelmed by the sheer number of hair options in the CC. Hairstyles I never even imagined and others I didn't expect to see in a game at all.
You can make your character look as good as they do in fanarts.

True, but toxic positivity can be just as harmful as toxic negativity. I would hope threads like these aren't 'solely' for people who want to extol the virtues of a game they're excited for, and being antagonistic towards people with legitimate concern about the state of a game they too are excited for. I'm not one of those right wing grifters who screams "WOKE" at everything left of me, and I AM hopeful that Veilguard will be good, but I still have some serious issues with the creative decisions being made here, like how I have issues with the decisions that lead Hawke to being human exclusive and the constant rushed area reuse in DAII, despite how much I 'do,' in fact, 'like' DAII. Seal-clapping only here...come on over to the Skepticism thread...we'll take care of you. You can even say something positive without getting driven away. What’s with people coming over here and calling people brain washed? All we said is to take the place over to the skepticism thread that’s it.

I could’ve sworn the skepticism thread just had a meltdown several days ago over people not being skeptical enough or challenging their unfounded claims, but perhaps all that got lost in the reactionary sauce from CC controversy. Lol yeah not surprised. I'd been over there a couple different times last month and in July, and it was clearly a dumping ground for people with (likely old) bitter grievances, bad-faith nitpicking every single thing that may or may not exist, and excessively pessimistic shitposting. Hardly some cool place to chill and post/read informed constructive criticism by well-meaning fans. Given that things have only gotten more polarized post-CC "controversy" and after the actually shitty news about the import situation, I find it hard to believe going there now with any opinion that dares take into account the realities of development, so that we can understand these issues better, will be looked at as anything less than shilling. I already get "some people defend Bioware at all costs!" by not posting hysterically about things I don't like, in other threads already. Anyway I learned my lesson and won't be visiting there again but I'm all for its existence as their group therapy and as forum containment for trolling (if only). I actually avoided THIS thread more until relatively recently because I thought it'd be a boring circlejerk* but then this place turned out to be a nice occasional respite from the "Skeptic" thread regulars treating other threads the same way, because I guess when you're addicted to negativity, and spending an inordinate amount of energy on something you're convinced will be terrible instead of something you think will be good, you need to spread it around like Harkin's herpes (band name?). *While I don't want my DA (or any) fandom to be a source of anxiety and misery, I also don't have a particular need to read nothing but good shiny happy things about DA all the time... I'm more into the fan community for reading analytical nerdery of the setting and stories, and I look forward to what DATV brings to the table there.

Which is super encouraging because one of my big asks was 'if do classes, make sure to differentiate them'. I really like how HL handled blocking to. First game where I heavily got into it. Most ARPGS I just dodge and dance around the map even if I don't technically have to. But there was just something simple enough that I could do it plus the counter mechanic with 'stupefy' made it fun. On paper the VG system sounds pretty cool to and looking forward to giving it a try though as with a lot in this game I worry about button layout.

A month. And Digital Foundry appears to be impressed with Veilguard. At the risk of sounding ignorant, who are they? Hardware/graphic geeks. For video games, they make articles/videos highlighting the graphical features, comment on how bad/good certain features implementation are. Also, compare the various graphics level, including between consoles and PC and propose "best/optimized settings" for games.

Ah go on then. I need some fun in my life this year so I'm letting my self get a little bit hyped. I'll admit to being on team skepticism for all this. Well, actually I was originally set with expectations so low I was really confused and lost when they announced it was coming out this year. Properly felt like confused Gandalf. But now, even if it's just me spending 90 hours going 'ooooh look at my lovely hair' - I will take it and run with it. It can't disappoint me more than FFVII Rebirth did at least. Unless everyone has kept silent about there being a million minigames in it. I have my preorder in, and leave booked off work. I am ready.

Haven't gotten around to it but the Lets Play I watched made it look pretty solid...well at least the ending was. Oh, don't get me wrong - it's a beautiful game that I loved the glow up of and did highly enjoy the main story. So cool seeing all these places look like they did to my child's eye back playing the original. What I didn't like about it - that I've seen many people get heavily shut down over on reddit about, because it's not something you have to do - is the volume of minigames. There is so many. Too many. Also, Chadley. I hate Chadley so much and he gained a female Chadley for twice the headache. The open world went down the 'go to this tower and unlock the map' method that weirdly the same places I see slate any Ubisoft game for having were not coming after this game for it even though it was equally as tedious. I am a recovering trophy hoarder. An obsessive need to explore every inch of an area and finish all side quests there before moving on with the main quest kind of person. That person who went into the Hinterlands in DAI and tried to finish the whole area right away. I have developed a mindset of 'finish your greens' (aka all the boring fetch quests) before your dessert (continuing main story) kind of gameplay from my trophy collecting days that I am trying to phase out of and FFVII Rebirth really punishes you big for it because its so many minigames which I don't love at the best of times anyway. They definitely could have done the open world better - but I would say on the whole it's more my fault that I was left disappointed by it. I should have just let myself play on with the main storyline and stopped myself exploring so much with every new area when I knew it was going to be more minigames.
