This video is probably one with the best gameplay. I saw a guy jumping with a bow and doing multiple pew pew pew that's not in there though. Don't remember how spoilery the video is, but it was linked multiple times before in here. Tabernac this is freaking torture! I actually bit the bullet and watched the video (PSA it is as spoiler free as it could be, featuring exclusively non sequitur combat, no bosses) and HO-LY every single class looks amazing. Honestly I'm floored, I thought corinne Busche going on and on about the combat was just marketing pleasantries, but this is a whole new level for bioware. No weird brag but I'm a martial artist and do pcap work on the side, so that's to say I look very close at this stuff and I cheered vocally multiple times. Again, they ve simply never had this quality in their games (I'd love to know the actors, that couldn't be from a library) It's probably gonna be mage now after all, but really only for novelty. That Bo staff fighting style with 540 flips landing into a barrier is fucking nuts. Wonder if the funky stuff looks anything like this: Freaking poetry man. And then some, brother. You will be pleased. I also avoid any footage but this just triple sold the game to me Interesting to see a perspective on this from a Martial Artist considering I've heard other people complain about the combat largely on those grounds to. And yeah I have at least seen the above video and the interesting thought which has popped into my head like for me DA has always had A+ world building, RP, and characters, like B+ Story, and like C+ combat. If the gameplay catches up to be as fun as say Witcher or Hogwarts Legacy this is setting it up to be a really good game. Which then gets the interesting thing going because, more or less, my favorite DA games is the games with the best casts end up being my favorite games but this could be a case where the cast isn't quite up to par the game could still end up being the best DA game. Of course the cast in this still looks pretty good by and large so I'm hoping that will still be in the same Inquisition/ Andromeda ballpark.

I commented on that a while ago in another thread.
For me, animations have always had a stepchild kind of position in BioWare games. It doesn't make sense to have fpcap (full performance capture) even in a story based game with lots of action on the one end of course, as for example overly cinematic games like Quantum Break. Even the same with facial rigging (so it's not the actor's facial structure) like RDR2 would be way excessive, I simply don't think BW would allocate that kind of money, that sort of over the top realism damned the cost is R*'s thing. Their cutscenes traditionally seem to be a mix of hand rigged library animations (sourced or original), which is tough enough as it is. I admit this has always annoyed me though, especially as a big fan of theirs, I know every single idle by heart to the point where I can't take any scenes of someone drinking at a bar seriously anymore.
(Andromeda did employ lots more mocap, which is easily forgotten)
Aaaanyways, the moves in DAV's combat look original and just the creativity of it I something I really appreciate. It's definitely not "pragmatic" -go play Kingdome Come Deliverance for that- but I also don't think it's over the top. All of these moves (safe for very few very obvious things) can be done by a human, and they make it clear Rook is very highly trained at and dedicated to what they do. There's a sense of mastery and capability besides having x critical chance on display there, I like that. I feel like it's not just "we also have better animations now", it adds to the character.
Lastly yeah, I think the reason I enjoyed the multiplayer in DAI so much is really because it gives you quick raw "gameplay" to enjoy and also get more skilled at. For better or worse, cause there's not much else to do. In the story mode, you usually fight to get to the next plot point, which is vastly more exciting than the actual fights themselves. It's really rare that you're actually look foward to an encounter, they're more like obstacles. I really hope this will make combat less of a hinderance in enjoying the story.

Yeah I tend to agree based on what I have seen so far. The animations do look pretty good from what I have seen so far.

It gets tough to explain when someone IRL does the *epic voice* Bioware convo SIDE-GLARE in a serious conversation and you randomly burst out laughing.
PS holy shit there's a reddit for it, it is so sad how I can identify each and everyone precisely: https://www.reddit.com/r/dragonage/comments/hklcw2/no_spoilerswhats_your_favorite_bioware_canned/

Another unsolicited follow up on my favourite topic - just heard BW on the xbox podcast go into "how much work the animation team put into anim branching and anim cancelling" and tbh my immediate response was are you trying to have sex with me thank you for listening
PSA = this implies cool geeky combat shit and it's also a tricky if not the trickiest part in performance
