The wait is harder now than last month. I'm having a hard time concentrating on a single game. I jump from Mass Effect, to Inquisition, to Hogwarts Legacy, to My Time at Sandrock and so on!

A month. And Digital Foundry appears to be impressed with Veilguard. Is there a link? I checked YouTube and Twitter and haven't seen it.

I actually moved to Hogwarts Legacy instead, I saw one youtuber say that Veilguard mage combat is somewhat similar. I really liked HL combat and it's way less of a slog to play then ACV. I just created my character in it thought. And OMG if they release the CC early I'm going to "play" just that. I spent 10 hours in Dragon's Dogma 2 CC early release, I know i'm going to beat that for Veilguard. My Hogwarts combat boiled down to spamming man-eating vegetables.
But yeah, with a few proper upgrades the main character can zap all around the battlefield throwing and blocking a variety of spells. Or, you know, throw cabbages and stun everything with mandrakes.

Out of curiosity what bothered you about FF VII Rebirth? Haven't gotten around to it but the Lets Play I watched made it look pretty solid...well at least the ending was. Oh, don't get me wrong - it's a beautiful game that I loved the glow up of and did highly enjoy the main story. So cool seeing all these places look like they did to my child's eye back playing the original. What I didn't like about it - that I've seen many people get heavily shut down over on reddit about, because it's not something you have to do - is the volume of minigames. There is so many. Too many. Also, Chadley. I hate Chadley so much and he gained a female Chadley for twice the headache. The open world went down the 'go to this tower and unlock the map' method that weirdly the same places I see slate any Ubisoft game for having were not coming after this game for it even though it was equally as tedious. I am a recovering trophy hoarder. An obsessive need to explore every inch of an area and finish all side quests there before moving on with the main quest kind of person. That person who went into the Hinterlands in DAI and tried to finish the whole area right away. I have developed a mindset of 'finish your greens' (aka all the boring fetch quests) before your dessert (continuing main story) kind of gameplay from my trophy collecting days that I am trying to phase out of and FFVII Rebirth really punishes you big for it because its so many minigames which I don't love at the best of times anyway. They definitely could have done the open world better - but I would say on the whole it's more my fault that I was left disappointed by it. I should have just let myself play on with the main storyline and stopped myself exploring so much with every new area when I knew it was going to be more minigames. I can relate to this post, completely.

At the risk of sounding ignorant, who are they? Hardware/graphic geeks. For video games, they make articles/videos highlighting the graphical features, comment on how bad/good certain features implementation are. Also, compare the various graphics level, including between consoles and PC and propose "best/optimized settings" for games. Well that's good. DAVG does look exceptional.

Oh yeah, minigames are a vaunted nostalgic treasure so I can imagine not really taking the high volume of them in a current-gen game (given the depth some have) as seriously. I was already checking to see which of my favorites from the original game were going to be included. I will protect Chadley at all costs though! ;p

They definitely could have done the open world better - but I would say on the whole it's more my fault that I was left disappointed by it. I should have just let myself play on with the main storyline and stopped myself exploring so much with every new area when I knew it was going to be more minigames. As someone for whom FF7 Rebirth is my personal GOTY so far (Veilguard may knock it down a bit), I agree with everything said here. Take out the minigames and the excessive use of Chadley, and Rebirth is literally everything OG fans could have possibly hoped for in all the best ways. I personally was able to tune out Chadley after a while but I know he annoyed tf out of others. Similarly, I was able to tackle the minigames *just long enough* to get the bare minimum out of them, and to Square's credit, almost all of them are optional or only need minimal engagement to get the story moving along.
The main two mini-games that aren't (the card game Queen's Blood and some of the arena content) are the most fun of the lot imo. The combat in Rebirth gets an entire glow-up evolution and is a lot more engaging and dynamic than in Remake, so arena is a blast as long as you don't try to force yourself to finish every match. And Queen's Blood is honestly one of the best card games Square Enix has made, which is saying something.
If I were a trophy hunter or even a quest completionist, though, Rebirth would be hell on earth. It is probably one of the most difficult platinums I've seen Square release, and a number of trophies are tied with objectives linked to not just playing but mastering the minigames, so it is a LOT. Some of the most advanced quests irrespective of trophies are also a LOT and require hours of grinding to complete.
Still, if those aren't issues for you, then playing the game for the story is fantastic fun.
Edit to add:
For the Digital Foundry thing, I did find them talking a little bit about Veilguard in this video (should be timestamped to Veilguard content). Mostly it's about the PS5 version with technical details, but overall they had good things to say about it:

Okay guys! I'm officially going dark until the end of the month! It's hard to believe it's been 10 years since the last Dragon Age game but it's worth the wait. I'm sooo pumped to get my hands on Veilguard! But all I ask to those who still remain is to keep the Hype Train alive! There will be a lot of people who will be bent on seeing it derailed but let them know that the Hype Train TRULY HAS NO BRAKES! See you all at release day! I feel that Bioware has truly made a banger with Veilguard and I'm going to be playing that game 24/7! But until the day the game is in my hands, this is Smiles signing off!

I can't remember if this video was linked earlier, but I really enjoyed it. The second half of the video is just him interviewing Matt Rhodes and a Bioware dev at the Preview Event, both of whom had some very nice insights. Overall quite an enjoyable video with no audio spoilers (though there are visual spoilers). Highly recommend.

I won't be going dark here, but I'll be coming off the rest of the internet (probably) mid-October. I'm convinced that some assholes will take joy from telling people what the ending is as soon as the first physical copies leak.

If each specialization is associated with a faction, does that mean they are locked?
As in, a Grey Warden Rook can only be a champion and s/he can't be a duelist unless s/he is a Crow.

It's just some kind of flavor text/lore. A Grey Warden Rook warrior can have access to all 3 warrior spe. You can change it for free whenever. Your race/class/faction is decided at the start and cannot be changed. That's all. You always have access to 3 spe for your class.

No you can spec hoewve ryou want. Ther is onl yon erestriction and that is you can onl yunlock specializations after you hit level 20 wit hyour character. But you can respec s muc ha syou like. For example you can fo rone mission decid et opla yas an Evoke r then i nthe next mission respec into Spell blade an dpla yas that. You likely can' tus eboth a tonce as you likel ywon' thave enough points in th egam et odo that. But yo uwill hav eenoug hpoints t ochoos eon eor the other once yo uge tpas tlevel 20. There aren't any faction restrictions. Each of us willbe able t oplay our Rooks however we want. I fyo ufeel the need t ocom eup wit ha headcannon on ho wyou rRook ended up wit hthos epowers that's on you.
