I suspect Aaron is going to sacrifice himself to save them, just like he tried to do with Cailan. This in turn will make Vaea a darker character seeing her father/support figure die, making her more broody, drop her no killing rule, etc. Or maybe Vaea is forced to kill Aaron because of some Red Lyrium twist.
Regardless its a shame that Aaron has to die because they run out with ideas how to use this character and that his death is needed to grow Vaea characterization. Also of course "old people" have to die in combat.

I mean already he was going against tropes like his deal with Vaea about no longer drinking (granted he's fumbled with that lately).

This in turn will make Vaea a darker character seeing her father/support figure die, making her more broody, drop her no killing rule, etc. This seems so obvious though it seems to me that something else will occur. For example, why shouldn't Ser Aaron succeed in saving Vaea without dying himself? To my mind the thing that haunts Ser Aaron is that he couldn't save Cailan, not that he didn't die too. After all, it was pretty easy to get yourself killed at Ostagar but much harder to survive if you went down into the valley where the King's forces were, which is what Aaron did. Basically he got there too late so what would have been the point in dying too? So this time round maybe he'll get there in time.

But this wouldn't be the first time Dragon Age burned me. So I guess I'm just following Garrus's method "I like to expect the worst. There's a small chance I'll be pleasantly surprised."

There's a small chance I'll be pleasantly surprised." If Aaron does die it might also be in order to ensure Vaea doesn't have to break her "no killing" rule. So instead of making her a darker character, it will instead make her more determined to maintain her stance in honour of his sacrifice. Think about it, why would Aaron sacrificing himself for her sake make Vaea into a darker character? What would be more likely to do that would be someone she previously trusted either betraying them or doing something stupid that results in the death of Aaron but nevertheless if it was a willing sacrifice on his part, then that ought to be the important aspect from her PoV and what has greatest influence on her future character. However, I would point out that she admits the reason she hasn't had to kill anyone is that Aaron has always been there to step in and do it for her. So without him, she might have to resort to breaking her rule in self defense simply in order to survive. It can still be a last resort if every other option fails but it might be necessary unless she'd rather die than kill anyone. Also, the fact that you don't kill because other people kill for you doesn't actually make you guiltless. Banquo's ghost made that point very effectively to Macbeth. Without Aaron there to step in, would she instead look to, say, Francesca to step in on her behalf because she already has blood on her hands? Without Aaron, Vaea may have to accept the less savoury aspect of Thedas life that in many cases it is either kill or be killed but that doesn't necessarily make her a darker character.

My attention has been drawn to the symbol on the cover. It seems to suggest chains/ropes around the wrist and neck of Tractus but what of the image over his body? Has this been mentioned anywhere? Is it associated with the Venatori or does it have some other meaning?

Yes, he has that strange comb over style that was one of our options in DAI but it has fallen forward in disarray. I'm not sure but I imagine the strange red eyes are caused by a dose of red lyrium. In the comic he does have a strangely grey looking skin, although I have to admit that in this image on the front cover it looks as though it only extends to his face, so I suppose it could be make-up. No reason why a dude shouldn't have make-up though.

Is it associated with the Venatori or does it have some other meaning? I feel like the symbol's suggestions of chains/a collar around his neck and of manacles around his wrists is intentional, at least in a composition consistency sense - compare with the cover of #2, where the dragon creature has a collar and manacles around its front legs. or had in the case of the collar before it shattered. suggests a connection between the creature and tractus

So, any theories on what mysterious thing Tractus intended to power the ritual to turn Shirallas into a red lyrium-marked warrior? I assume it’s what’s making that SHEEEEEEE noise.

I assume it’s what’s making that SHEEEEEEE noise. Or it could be Shirallas making the noise in his agony. After all, that would make Fenris call out in denial of what was happening. To my mind it is pretty obvious from the cover that it is the dragon that is powering the ritual and that part at least may be knowledge from the time of the Neromenians, bearing in mind that Castel Tenebris is just outside the ancient capital of Neromenian and Lusacan, god of shadow and night (whose constellation is Tenebris), was also one of the three patron gods of ancient Neromenian, along with Toth and Dumat.

The SHHEEEE sound effect is more of a shriek or a loud hum than a cry of pain, which would be represented in a comic as an AAAAAAGH.
Still, “a dragon” is probably the answer, since the cover did have a dragon.

I'm excited honestly, - I ordered my first comic book issue from a Comic Book Store yesterday in preparation for it's release. Maybe this is the start of a new hobby for me. If so, I need to get those covers to cover them after I'm finished reading it. But damn, $4 for one issue, it's gonna be a pretty expensive hobby.
