End of Year PC Build

^I'm running Win11 Pro 23H2, update installed just fine. Had to restart twice, but there may haven been other stuff going on as well.

Am I the only one here who always keeps Windows updated?

One does not run updates like a sheep on an audio production machine - so yeah I'll update it when really needed only. GPO is a friend on Pro OS's for this.

No any updates on the audio machine, they are always a risk something breaks, so it'll be larger update and only if really really needed, after a whole os & data images + secondary backup disks.

So just for giggles and to kind of get an idea of what my savings will have to be like for next October when Windows 10 goes EOL and I want/need to rebuild...I thought I would try to get an idea of what the price tag would be on a completely ground-up new-new build with parts as they stand now, not including the new tech expected out because I can't account for that anyways....But for fun here is a hypohetically prospective parts list

CPU: Intel 14900KF

Motherboard: Aorus Master Z790X (Rev 1.2)

GPU: Aorus Master 4080 (16gb)

DDR5: GSKILL 64gb @5600 (because that's all the 14900K can handle, though I could OC it to 6000 possibly. Not sure)

AIO Liquid Cooler: Corsair iCue H170iXT (420mm)

M.2: Samsung EVO 990 (either 2TB or 4TB)

PSU: EVGA 1300P+ 80+Platinum

Case: CoolerMaster HAF700EVO

Monitor (2 choices)
1) MSI's 4K Quantum Dot OLED 32" (flat panel, no curve).
2) BENQ MOBIUZ EX3210u 32" 4K IPS LED

Operating System: Either WIndows 11 Pro OR Windows 12/13 (if/when it is out)

Now, *gulp*, based on TODAY'S prices..(and I really don't see the prices coming DOWN at all for any of the parts. Only rising, unfortunately)...But based on prices of today's market that build would cost me a staggering $8 000 CAD!


I cry just thinking about having to spend that much! But I do truly fear that the prices of today's economy are here to stay for good. PC parts are not inexpensive anymore. I remember a day not long ago....when you could get 64GB of DDR3 for 120 dollars and when top-shelf GPUs (like the 980s) were 850 dollars....half the cost of what they are now.

You may also want to look at the GB 4080 Aorus Super Master.

And Gigabyte has been having those coil whine issues, so beware. I bought a GB 4070 TUF for my son's rig, no issues whatsoever, but you never know.

GIFs are space magic to me; I'd rather manually configure Linux NIC drivers than work with GIFs. Found this though:
