One Drive has been pissing me off for the last week with its "you're running out of space *Click here to buy more space* Otherwise you won't be able to do anything like send or receive emails" BS Oh, and iTunes pissed me off, too, because it prompted me to download a new version (so I did) only to find out that quite a few of the songs I'd purchased from various OSTs are all missing. So I *cursed apple* and re-downloaded entire OSTs to fix the issue. SEveral times. After 4 hours it's fixed. Still pisses me off though because I've had to resort to using a version from the MS Store (which is another piss off because I can't get a proper size desktop icon for it).

So yesterday I got up auto-update for my Black Widow Keyboard (2019 Refresh version) and normally they install and work flawlessly...no problems. And the update yesterday at the time seemed to have no issues whatsoever. But I booted my PC today and went to log-in to Windows and with one keystroke of the letter 'A' for example....it was like I was spamming the key. Just AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA. Then it would tell me my log-in was incorrect. So I disconnected and reconnected the keyboard from the USB port on the back and tried again. Still the same problem. So I discnnected it again, gave the cord, the USB connector and the port all a good spritzing with a can of compressed air to clear away any dust and whatnot....Then reconnected it and tried again. Still the same problem. So this time I turned OFF my PC through Windows Start-up screen, waited 10 seconds and then booted it up again. And again...the same problem. A single key stroke is like I was spamming the key or holding it down.
Next, I swapped my keyboard for my Dad's Steel Series in his office downstairs....Connect that, tried it. And as they say... "flawless victory". No problems. Booted/loaded Windows and proceeded to Uninstall all the Razer software (Central, Cortex, Synapse, Axion) with REVO Uninstaller Pro (making sure to automatically clean/edit the Registry of all left-overs) and then reboot again. Then I switched back to my Razer and just used it as a straight 'plug n' play' with no extra software and it works great.
I"ve had this happen only once before and it was a bug in the update, so I'm going to leave it without any Razer software for a while and see how it comes out in the wash down the road.

Typical Razer software. It's the same with Logitech's G Hub, Asus' Armory Crate, and Corsair's iCue. These badly written software often cause a lot of problems. It's one of the reasons why nowadays I don't even use Logitech G Hub. I just store all the settings on my mouse and keyboard's on-board memory instead of having G Hub running in the background.

Back at the start of the year I finally was able to build a PC. In all my years of PC gaming I've used prebuilt PCs. This time I wanted to build one for myself that I would use for years to come, it was pretty fun and I liked how it turned out. It's an all white build. Here are the specs. Case: NZXT H6 Flow White Motherboard: Aorus Elite AX ICE B650 CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800 X3D GPU: MSI RTX 4070 Super White PSU: Thermaltake GF A3 850W White RAM: Trident 6000 32 GB White SSD: Nextorage 2 TB Gen 4 M.2 AIO Cooler: Corsair HI 150 LCD White Fans: Corsair QX 140 and QX 120 White
Power Cable: LaianLi Strimer 12VHPWR External BDR: Pioneer XD08 Getting the Corsair fans into this case was a bit of a problem. One of the 140's on the bottom is only secured by three screws since they wouldn't line up completely. I looked around online and others had problems getting them installed as well. I wanted to use the fans to make up syncing the RGB easier. They use Corsairs new Link system which was really easy to set up. I also had to get an internal USB hub from NZXT. Didn't have a problem with the 120's.
The angled fans on the front are a nice touch that made me go with this case over a lot of the others I saw.
I went with the 7000 X3D since I also like to play a lot of Paradox titles like HOI4 and Victoria 3 that benefit from the rather large L3 cache it has.
The power cable to the GPU has a yellow light that moves along the cable PSU to the GPU, I wanted it to look like a warp core from Star Trek. I sort of caught the RGB bug.
Pics in the spoilers below. No intention of updating anytime soon. I gamed on a GTX 780 for nearly a decade and an i7 980X for even longer. It's crazy how much things had changed when I went to look at parts when building this PC.

^A new build with pictures! Will wonders never cease. Your post is most welcome; we don't get too many posts these days, and my procrastination seems to continue. My takes: - I like the white a lot! After building two black gaming rigs, I really dig the white theme. - NZXT H6 looks nice. I wasn't familiar with it, so had to look up where the PSU goes. - I concur with your choices: I have the same CPU and a 4070 Ti Super. That's plenty bang for buck, and quite enough power for gaming. And I don't shun MSI. - Don't sweat about the screws: Three is ample for holding a fan in place. I don't use RGB in my rigs, but I did recently build a PC with RGB. Now to take pictures and post them here..

The Z800 series Boards are out as are the Core2Ultra series CPUs that will be needed.
The Aorus Master model is 839.99 CAD! holy moley! Looks like the price of my next build just went up about a grand!

I had to think about the 4070 Ti Super, weird name, and the 4070 Super. The extra VRAM is nice but the price was too much for me. That GTX 780 was the last GPU I bought years ago and the prices now are wild. It's disappointing to see that Nvidia has so cornered the market. But maybe I should talk much, the last non Nvidia card I owned was an ATI 20 years back.
What 4070 Ti Super did you get?
I did make the jump up to 1440P with this build. Hope the 12GB on the 4070 Super will last at that resolution for some time.
The 7800 X3D though I can't say enough good about it. It absolutely flies through HOI4. Here I'm glad too see that AMD has gotten it's act together against Intel and is actually competitive.

The 7800X3D is the fastest gaming CPU that you can buy. It is insanely efficient especially compared to Intel CPUs (about 85 watts at max) and it isn't too expensive either. It's too bad that AMD have dropped the ball on the Zen 5 CPUs. I don't think the upcoming 9800X3D is much faster than the 7800X3D anyway. You've made the right decision.

Im interested in the new Z890 series Motherboards and new(ish)ly released Core Ultra series CPUs from Intel.
At $830 CAD it wouldn't be the most expensive CPU Ive ever purchased. (At 859.99 that crown still belongs to the Intel 6850K that I had on my previous X99 build). But at an equal price of 829.99 for the Z890 Aorus Master it would be the most expensive motherboard I have built.
For next Fall 2025 I am considering the following build:
CPU: Intel i9 Core Ultra 285 (24 Cores @ 5.7ghz per Core; 16 E-Cores, 8 P Cores)
Motherboard: Aorus Master Z890
GPU: Aorus Master Rtx 5080 Super- 18GB Model (if it is released by next Fall)
DDR5: G.Skill 64GB (2×32gb) Dual Channel DDR5 @ (WHATEVER speed best matches the Bus of the MB and CPU and will play nicely with both....estimated at about 6000Mhz)
M.2 Samsung 990 4TB (or a newer model at time of release)
Liquid Cooler: Corsair iCue H170i RGB Pro 420mm AIO
Case: CoolerMaster HAF 700 EVO
OS: WINDOWS 11 PRO (OR 12, 13 ETC) 64BIT
MONITOR (3 Current Choices, no particular preference)
* BenQ Mobiuz EX 3210U
** MSI QD OLED 321URX (OLED 32 INCH, 4K , 320hz Refresh Rate, .03ms RT, 10-bit Colour)
2 ASUS Monitors...just because Id be willing to try it. Nkt had good luck with ASUS products and their monitors at Staples are always very dark...but I have heard good things about them so I would be willing to try ASUS as a monitor brand.
I am choking on my credit and bank cards judging by today's prices for those parts....But that is why I intend to save as much as possible.
But can someone fill me in about matching the CPU and MB to the Memeory? Because times have changed. Not truly since DDR3 has there actually been a NEED to matxh the Front Side Bus of the Motherboard to the Bus of the CPU and then match both of those things to the memory's maximum speed that is supported in order for everything to work correctly and without errors.
So with DDR 4 and 5 now...that is no longer necessary. But still I am confused because they make RAM speeds far faster than CPUs can support. Mothernoards may handle RAM now up to 8000mhz, but even the best cpu has a maximum supported speed of 5400mhz.
So what gives? How does that all work?
Please share....

But can someone fill me in about matching the CPU and MB to the Memeory? No prob. even the best cpu has a maximum supported speed of 5400mhz Officially, DDR5 is rated for 2800MHz, meaning that in Double Data Rate you get 2x 2800MHz = 5600 MHz. Again, officially, everything above that is considered OC and may void your MoBo's warranty. I've built two rigs this year, both running @6000mhz perfectly fine, no issues. I'm sure, that when you finally get to building your rig, 6000MHz is considered slow.

So looking ahead to next Fall, 2025....who knows what advances will be out. But I'm sure everything that is the NEW-NEW Hotness right now, such as the Core Ultra 9 series will be old within the next six to eight months.

Energizer Bunny 211 you sure you need that expensive motherboard or there are yet no cheaper ones? I've always opted for the cheapest without any extras because those work the most hassle free in my experience So if you do not need all the bells & extras..

So, Intel 285K reviews are out, and.. IDK, the results seem strange to me.
Benchmarks: Benchmarking results are great, like really fast, but gaming-wise the 285K is slow. Poor optimization or the new architecture didn't pay off?
Power consumption: 280W at maximum load, but only 115W when gaming? The 285K is clearly pulling it's punches, but why? BTW, someone unlocked the power limits, and the CPU drew 370W in extreme overclocking.
Benchmarks should reflect real world capabilities, but that's not the case here. Your thoughts?

I thought the Ryzen 9000 CPUs were underwhelming but Intel's launch was even worse. I guess this generation is just shit. Hopefully the upcoming 9800X3D is slightly better at least.

Since that weird *flashy-thingy* screen issue Ihad sometime ago has long since been resolved (and chalked up to a bug in a Cumulative Update download)....And even though I am now used to my EVGA X17 Mouse...I still have the G502 HERO, and lately I have been thinking I should give it another go. Even after all this time I still do prefer the feel of Logitech rodents in my hand than anything else.
I'm holding off though because I'm always leary of the "what if....?"
THoughts?
EDIT: OK, so I tried the Hero mouse and after a solid 15 minutes of trial and error testing while the L+R buttons are clickity-click and responsive when I press them.....whatever is going on with the mouse, clicking the left or right buttons on an application's icon to open it I get zero response. Nothing happens. The drivers are installed and up to date, by all accounts (physically) the mouse is in good working order it's not broken or in any way damaged. the DPI buttons work accordingly, the mouse pointer moves very fluidly according to the Settings as I move the mouse in different directions, the buttons physically 'click' and move up/down as I press them. They're not damaged......But the buttons are not causing any response in Windows. Right-clicking an open area on the desktop does work but it's 1 out of every 6 clicks where the menu pops up on the desktop. Left clicking on any application to open it does absolutely NOTHING.
In any case...needless to say, I have switched back to my X17 mouse and everything is back to working 500% perfectly. As much as I still may prefer the feel of a logitech mouse in my hand, if it's not functioning correctly then it's useless to me.

After seeing this, I'm inclined to believe that the issue with the 285K is due to poor optimization and architectural choices.
CUDIMMs make the CPU work faster, and they were always the way forward, but that's hardly ideal. RAMBus anyone?

I watched so many of his videos when I was shopping for parts. That uplift he got is pretty impressive from where that CPU was at.
Love the just wait for AMD early next month though. Even though I'm not going to upgrade it will be interesting to see how good they are, he seems to think will be. Might be the only bright spot for CPU's this cycle.
