What I do is I make a list of everything I have ibstalled and take a oicture of my desktop because I like the icons arranged in a certain order.
But I do agree that ibstalling the software is the most arduous part because it is so time consuming and slow eslecially when you just want to get back to gaming.

It can't be that long? [checks the first page] Well I'll be. Time sure flies. I hope we get new pics as well? Good choice; I have the same, but a 32GB kit without LEDs. Should be a breeze to install. If I may be so bold, how much did you pay for it? I'm curious because of the tax hikes over here. With the 4090, you should actually benefit from the CPU; it's pretty neat.

Installing OS and drivers? Its easy. Installing audio software and bit under 100 plugins? Took two days...

Got everything to work. So far, so good. The default Expo profile works perfectly. The only downside is that whenever I make any changes in the BIOS, it takes forever to reboot because it keeps re-training the memory.

Bought a 9800X3D, new mobo, and some 64GB DDR5 6000 kit. After four years, I think it's finally time to upgrade. Wow you managed to get a 9800X3D! They sold out very, very quickly. As did the late-November set of pre-orders, and the December pre-orders. My UK supplier has stopped even taking pre-orders at this point, saying come back in January and we will see. I *think* my pre-order is in the late November group, but my order time and their cutoff time are very close together, so I could be waiting a while. I'm upgrading from a 3700X (5 years old) on a X370 m/b (7 years old) so it is about time for an upgrade. Been saving for 2 years for this.

I'm upgrading from a 3700X (5 years old) on a X370 m/b (7 years old) so it is about time for an upgrade. Been saving for 2 years for this. Upgrading from a 5950X, there's actually a very noticeable difference. I'm genuinely surprised. For a game as old as GTA Online (not GTA V Story Mode), I used to get a lot of framerate drops even without other players present. At worst, it could drop to as low as 50 FPS in certain areas. Now it's between 90-100 FPS. It's the same thing with Cyberpunk 2077. In the busy areas like the markets, my framerate would drop even with Frame Generation on the 5950X. Now with Frame Generation, the game basically pegs at the framerate limit (138 FPS on a 144hz display with Nvidia Reflex and G-Sync) without any dips. I can even enable Path Tracing and still be able to play the game above 100 FPS most of the time. The improvements on these 1% lows in games are the biggest difference that you can see right away with the 9800X3D. I still can't believe how good this CPU is for gaming. It's definitely worth the $479 MSRP if you've already got a fast GPU, but don't give in to the scalpers.

I've got an OK GPU for my 1440p monitor, a RX6800, I'll have to save up more to replace that as well. Maybe this time next year, maybe 2026, we will see how frustrated I get. Definitely not giving in to scalpers. My pre-order cost MSRP and if they try to put that up there will be words that start with F and O, but it's a reliable retailer that trades on its reputation so I don't expect that.

Okay, thanks. It's about $600 USD here. keeps re-training the memory You can safely disable mem training. It's only a handshake between the sticks and the mem controller, and you're already using the best profile @6000mhz.

Memory Context Restore = enable Fast Boot = disable
Not entirely sure, but should be easy enough to test?

I think it's working. It still has to re-train the memory if I change the memory timings, but that's normal I suppose. This mobo also has some AI feature that keeps training itself to adjust some settings. That I have no idea how it affects anything. I've been running Prime95 all day, I think the memory is stable enough. Did you ever test your 4070Ti with the 5600X and compare the difference? I honestly didn't expect the X3D chips to be this fast. I knew it would be at least 50% faster, but the improvements on the 1% lows are so much that the difference is apparent straight away. 50 FPS vs 100 FPS when the framerate dips in GTA Online. Now I just nee do find someone with a 14900K and a 4090 to compare.

Still no news on my 9800X3D, still hoping for late November. But my RAM arrived from the US though. UK sellers didn't have the type I wanted (G.Skill FlareX 6000MTS/CL30) and US Amazon was selling them at a normal non-import price so that's what I got.

G.Skill FlareX 6000MTS/CL30 I got those for my ITX build. Only 33mm tall, they fit snugly under the Noctua NH-L12S. Good sticks.

PC built/upgraded- minus putting on the side panels and tidying up. Lord what a palaver!
The new Noctua fans I bought for the old case didn't fit! I did work out that they could go inside the fan mount, but even then the srcrews to fit them don't match the holes on the bracket. Reverted to the old case fans plus a slim bequiet fan I had lying around. Had to clean everything obviously.
Then there was awkwardness with my dark rock pro cooler, although I eventually got that sorted out - needed a mini allen key as well as screwdrivers, but luckily I had a whole set of keys from an earlier life rusting in a storage box.
And once everything was together I realised the new m/b doesn't have a PS2 port for my old keyboard. I'm using a really cheap and crappy Dell thing I had spare to type this, but it looks like I'll be trawling sales tomorrow for something better.
Still, BIOS is updated, new RAM is at EXPO speeds and everything appears to be working. I'll test speeds tomorrow.

Brief test with BG3 showed a 40-50% increase in FPS in the Lower City. My GPU is now maxed out in that section where it used to be underutilised. I'm not planning on upgrading that at the moment though. Have to save up for another year or two for that and the inevitable PSU upgrade it will require.
