Might as well ask this here. Yes, please do. If you are dead set on Intel, your options are (IMHO) as follows: Core i5 11600k - incredible bang for buck, and since you are water cooling, OC:ing is an option. Core i7 11700K - very good performance out of the box Core i9 11900K - king of the Intel heap for sure, but we are in the realm of diminishing returns. the information available on performance is so bloody contradictory. Yes, it is. Benchmarking isn't what it used to be. Now you have to check the benchmark results that apply to your needs. If you do rendering, check the Blender results. If it's purely a gaming rig, check the actual game benchmarks. What ever you choose, rest assured that all of the CPUs mentioned above will be great performers when it comes to gaming. CPU isn't all that important anyway, not anymore.

most there now weren't in 2010? AMD was on my naughty list for a long time, but I think they finally matured this year. I'm fairly certain my next rig will be based on AMD Ryzen. Gotta love that raw performance and I might do some rendering again. Source of this stupidity? I believe he means that base frequency means nothing; it's all about top boost frequency now. Take the Core i5-11600K for instance: It's base clock is only 3.9GHz, but it can do 4.6GHz all-core boost and 4.9GHz single core boost. And I believe it can OC 5.0GHz easily, meaning it's beginning to get close to the 11900K.

Gotta love that raw performance and I might do some rendering again. AMD is ALOT better than it used to be... Of course the change in management in 2014 did indeed help. Sure the pace has equalized but you can definitely trust them more these days than in the past. Intel has been playing a bit of Bugs Bunny against them for years now.
Though with Intel I am not certain what to trust or believe... For them to be firing or letting go certain people and then hiring them back. Almost seems like certain people in the higher level positions had differing philosophies. So they axed the ones who knew what to actually do and now they beg and plead for them to come back. They seem to be acting alot like where AMD was 11 years ago.

Well from my knowledge -as limited as it is: Modern games do utilize more than a single core -which is what it seemed he was referring too. If games focused on only using a single core we would end up with a CPU bottle neck wouldn't we?

You referring to the FX-Fiasco or Athalon craze or something else? Is that what you call it nowadays? It fucking blew my mind when people actually tried to defend the FX 8350 against the i7 7700K. The Piledriver and Bulldozer were the real hot garbage that they were getting wrecked by even the 2000-series i5 and i7 Sandy Bridge.

I would actually recommend the 10850K over these. The 10850K has 10 cores instead of the 8 that you get in those 11-series CPUs. It also goes on sale pretty often. If you're in the US and there's a Microcenter store near you, you can get it for as little as $320. So not only it has two extra cores for that extra multithreaded performance, the 10850K can also match 11900K's performance in games. The downside is that it only supports PCIe Gen 3 if you care about that kind of thing. (You shouldn't.)

The Piledriver and Bulldozer were the real hot garbage that they were getting wrecked by even the 2000-series i5 and i7 Sandy Bridge. Back when they first came out I really didn't care about performance just wanted something fast quick and cheap to run what I needed it to. Not to mention could handle my Multi-tasking.
That said I built this build on a budget so finding a processor, motherboard and ram combo for less than $300 at the time was a steal.
It was originally designed to run Star Craft 2
Though with my vision is impaired -legally blind without my glasses so smaller resolutions sometimes better than 1920x1080. Those 1920x1080 resolutions hurt to look at most times. Sometimes I am forced to run at 800x600 if necessary since the writing in games... OYE! It can get so small at higher resolutions that it hurts my eyes to look at even at sometimes even with my glasses on. Anyone else go through this??? Yes I ran ME1-ME3 At 1024x768 or lower.

Give me one specific processor to test it against and programs to use I will give it a go to test. Even if the FX ran hot -which if is so I have found ways around with just air.

The Piledriver and Bulldozer were the real hot garbage that they were getting wrecked by even the 2000-series i5 and i7 Sandy Bridge. FX- Fiasco Rant:
FX- Fiasco is what I call it since its production nightmare was caused by putting a NON electrical engineer as CEO in 2011. This idiot -by the name of Rory Reed only achieved in diversifying AMD resources.
Rory Reed is a holder in a bachelors in information systems degree. In simple terms he tried to dip his toes into 10 different lakes at the same time.
This I think is why FX were so under performing by some people standards.
AMD had a line a chips but couldn't put more effort into them since they had no more money. Since it was applied and in use elsewhere in the company.
No wonder 2011 to 2014 AMD flounder in his idiocy.
Something that has now been remedied with the electrical engineer Dr. Lisa Su at the helm since booting Reed in 2014. A fiasco very reminiscent of what Intel has been doing lately. Since they promoted a claimed analytical engineer Brian Krzanich to CEO in 2013. However all he has in actuality is a bachelor's degree in chemistry! Something that had me seeing Intel being a floundering whale since that time. Also further reason you never put a person outside the field of expertise needed in a place of authority. It will always go to their brain and kills brain cells it seems. Thank heavens he was fired for his indiscretionary extramarital acts -I will leave it at that.
His 2021 replacement Pat Gelsinger IS an electrical engineer and we can already see a floundering ship being righted. In essence if you want performance in CPU's its better to always have an electrical engineer as CEO.

The FX-8350 and 8370 were fine on air. The 9370 and 9590 were the ones that really needed watercooling. Performance and efficiency wise, they were completely outclassed by Intel's Sandy Bridge and Ivy Bridge CPUs. Even AMD's older Phenom II CPUs were sometimes faster. It's perfectly okay if you bought one and you were happy with it, but I'd be lying if I said they weren't bad. They ran hot, they under-performed, and they almost bankrupted AMD in the process. AMD even had to pay out a couple millions in a false advertising class action suit. As an AMD shareholder (and I still am), I wasn't pleased with those products at all. Steve from Gamer's Nexus had an FX-8370 and he also shared the same thoughts. The good things about the FX CPUs is that they were cheap and they overclocked like a dream. That's one of the reasons why they still have a die-hard following.

The FX-8350 and 8370 were fine, but they still ran pretty hot compared to Intel's 32nm Sandy Bridge and 22nm Ivy Bridge. They only had a TDP of 125 watts compared to FX-9370 and 9590's 220 watts. The 9590 was scorching. Remember, this is during the time when AMD was still using the rather dated 32nm process and those FX CPUs really didn't like to run too hot despite them being power hungry. AMD had to set a maximum safe operating temperature at 61C and thermal throttle at 70C to prevent damage. This graph from Anandtech shows the power consumption difference compared to other CPUs at the time. Compared to the slightly more modern CPUs, you can understand why AMD didn't have any high-end CPUs to compete against Intel for such a long time. When AMD finally released Ryzen in 2017, we all rejoiced because we could finally move on from Intel's quad-core.

So what program do I use to work the CPU to the limit to do similar testing? Is there a program that will show the current power draw?

So what program do I use to work the CPU to the limit to do similar testing? Is there a program that will show the current power draw? For easy temperature and power monitor, you can use HWiNFO64. However, not all motherboards report 100% accurate readings. So your mileage may vary. Just look for "CPU Package Power."

Which reads:
Currently pulling 29.654 W Minimum reading is 15.654 W
Maximum reading is 43.954 W
Is this just during the current Windows session time?

Not the current load time. The values that you see are logged since you've opened HWiNFO64. If close it, you lose all those values. So you can just minimize it and leave it running while you do your work. I mainly use HWiNFO64 to monitor my VRAM temperature and GPU hotspot temperature. It is a great program that doesn't use too much resource.

Might as well ask this here. I am looking at a new PC build. I am going Intel ( I've had AMD in the past, and they're on my shit list for the foreseeable future), despite the competition being considered better at the moment. You referring to the FX-Fiasco or Athalon craze or something else? You wouldn't attack the people at AMD personally would you -granted most there now weren't in 2010? Now, when I start looking, I see the following information.
For gaming, multiple cores/threads don't matter, only single core speed matters, buy an i5 something. O....k? Source of this stupidity? It was on my work laptop, will check my history on Monday and post the link. As for AMD, don’t actually know about the issues you’re talking about. My issue is with them as a client of mine, not the other way around. It was quite a few years back, and sorted long ago, but a bad taste remains.

I believe he means that base frequency means nothing; it's all about top boost frequency now. And I believe it can OC 5.0GHz easily, meaning it's beginning to get close to the 11900K. Well from my knowledge -as limited as it is: Modern games do utilize more than a single core -which is what it seemed he was referring too. If games focused on only using a single core we would end up with a CPU bottle neck wouldn't we?
I may have mixed it up, that nugget was early on in a frustrating day. But rewind had it right, I think. What I should have said was “only clock speed matters” (at least, that’s what the website in question said - will definitely try to find that link, because it just intuitively didn’t look right). But that reasoning prompted them to flag the i5 which had a higher clock speed than the i7s.

I would actually recommend the 10850K over these. Nah, I'm liking my choices. Cores and HT aren't everything.

that reasoning prompted them to flag the i5 which had a higher clock speed than the i7 Again, it's not about the core clock speeds either. CPUs have become so complex, that nothing is about some one thing anymore, it's about the overall performance. If you water cool and OC a cheap Corei5, like the 11400F, it'll go like crazy and leave behind some Corei9s. But if you do that, you are probably a nerd and very much into this kind of stuff. I mean I would love to try something like that, but we'll see.
EDIT: To avoid confusion, I should add that the 11400F is locked, so you can only remove power limits and do a memory OC.

My Fractal Design Define 7 Black finally arrived. Out of the box, side panel removed. Removing the top filter requires you to remove the top panel, so it's best used for exhaust. Removable top bracket Without the back panel and some of the plastic hatches removed The HDD bay can be moved further back, but there's already enough space for a 360. In this configuration the case has space for two 3.5" drives and two 2.5" drives. Alternative top panel
The case is big, but it's not ginormous. I mounted the Noctua A14 just to show that there's space for a 360, but a 420 is probably not going to fit in there.
The bracket obstructs airflow somewhat. Note that there's about one inch gap between the fan and the MoBo panel. The front and bottom filters can be accessed easily, and you can switch the door swing direction, or remove it completely. The case feels sturdy and well made, would recommend.

Well, personally....after many reviews (youtube videos such as Gamers' Nexus, BitWit, Hardware Cannucks, Jayz Two Cents etc, artlces from PC Mag, CPUser, Maximum PC and many others) NONE of them actually like the 11 series (especially the 11900), because in many cases the 10900K performs as good or better, is still considered the best by many, has more cores, faster cores, still runs hot yes (or so they have said....I haven't seen Temps go beyond 45 when in Gaming Load Mode) and is less expensive. Plus the 11 series is viewed across the board as a "half-assed stop-gap measure, just waiting for Alder Lake and LGA 1700, DDR5 etc to be released this Fall".....Which I wholeheartedly agree with. So for what its worth, if you would like my opinion....I would buy a 10-900KF or 10850K to pair with your 2080TI rather than waste money on the 11 series. The ONLY benefit of the 11 series CPUs and 590 series of Motherboard is PCIE 4.0. But you're still running 3.0 with the 2080TI, so 4.0 is no use to you. Unless you spent another 2000 (Canadian) on a 30 series card, which you won't be getting until at least September or October when they are projected to hit Retail shelves.....or maybe beyond that since there will be such a long line of people waiting (and still idiots who mine and scalpers who buy in bulk only to raise prices). And by that time.....Something even newer will be out. I mean, let's face it: The average turn-around for GPU tech in the past 5 to 10 years has been six to eight months of shelf life. And by that time, they're already working on the 'newer thing', so whatever you just bought is already outdated. And you can't tell me that in the last year and some that people have been waiting for their 30 series cards that Manufacturers haven't been behind the curtin furiously working away on building newer, faster, more powerful cards. So even when the 30 series does arrive on shelves it will already be old tech. Not to mention with LGA 1700 arriving this Fall (Oct/November ish) PCIE 5.0 will be onboard, so your 4.0 3090 will be old tech (2500.00 dollar paper weight) and you will want whatever runs on PCIE 5.0 of course. But if you stick with the 10 series (the 10 850 I think is the best happy medium for cost/performance and longevity) you will still have a top-performing Gaming/ Productivity machine even 7 years from now especially if 4K at a stable 60hz is what you want and you don't care about the newest 360 hz 1 ms IPS monitors like the one I saw from ASUS just the other day (though it is only limited to a pitiful `1080 p at a max size of 24 inches....a size and resolution I would never go back to after seeing 4K/60hz @ 32 inches...And I think you would agree with me on that one). I have never seen a 120, 144, 240 hz monitor even at 1440p, so I can't say anything about what they look and perform like. I have no idea. And honestly, I don't think I would be able to SEE the difference, so to me it would be wasted. That being said, I CAN SEE the difference in FPS drops....like from 60 down to 30, from 30 down to a staggering 20, 25, 10 etc because then I notice huge lag and that awful screen tearing which gives me a migraine. So again, it's my honest, humnle opinon that if you are using a 2080TI for 4K/60hz....Your best buy would be a 10850 (and a good motherboard such as the Aorus Master or the ASUS Maximus HERO XII or the AsRock equiv..... YES, I am aware that I personally mentioned ASUS as a 'good motherboard' but I am parroting what most people think because it is a well known brand....so please don't come after me for 'you've awlays said you hate ASUS...." Because I do, still.) www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=26_1842_1960&item_id=168063www.amazon.ca/ROG-XII-Motherboard-CrossChill-Livedash/dp/B087LHPYT6/ref=dp_prsubs_1?pd_rd_i=B087LHPYT6&psc=1
