My build is advancing, on paper that is. Still no idea where to source a graphics card from. MSI MAG X570 Tomahawk WIFI AM4 will be the MoBo. Say what you will about MSI, but this MB is decent. The price seems about right too; this is going to be an interim build after all. Yes, there is a chipset fan, but it's one of the better ones, and I have ideas about that anyway. CPU will be the Ryzen 5 5600X. We'll see how it performs. OC or undervolting, that is the question. Definitely going to water cool, but since I live in the arse end of nowhere, I can't just pick and choose my components. My local store carries EKWB and Alphacool, so they'll have to do. Parts as follows: EK-Velocity AM4 Copper Block Alphacool NexXxoS ST30 Full Copper 280 EK-Quantum Kinetic TBE 200 D5 PWM EK-DuraClear 9,5/15,9mm EK-Torque STC-10/16 Fittings I'm trying to keep the build as cheap as possible, mind you. And yes, the build doesn't make much sense just by looking at the parts, but a lot of thought has gone into it. And one goal is to find my sea legs regarding water cooling.

I"ve had a great many people tell me that sure, if you OC your CPU you get faster clocks.....But in the long run it kills your CPU and shortens its lifespan because it generates more heat, has to work 'harder' and in the long run it can in some cases reduce the lifespan by a significant margin (and in all cases it does reduce lifespan but the margin of by how much depends on how hard you OC how long and how often you use it every day at those speeds and temps).
That is why I have never OC'd my CPUs.....I admit, I'm a bit of an odd duck: I buy CPUs that can be OC'd (ie the 10900KF or 6850K) but I don't OC them at all except for what is done automatically through Intel Turbo Boost. That's because I prefer to have the speed and flexability that comes with a K series CPU, but I know nothing about OC'ing, so I don't do it.
You see? Odd Duck.

The GIGABYTE X570 AORUS Elite Wi-Fi sits at $195 on Amazon so maybe cheaper than that one. However it lacks one important feature -BIOS flash back.
And since you probably are going to need to use the BIOS flash back for the 5600x you choice is well chosen.
As to the Chipset fan... Several pages back I posted a picture that showed just removing the 570's fan and using an 80mm fan in its place -if fit correctly... Though not a problem since I decided on the 550.

You certainly are not. You just like to have a reserve. Nothing wrong with that. I am the same way. Think of it like that from Fast and Furious Francise: Lets OC!... burn CPU up.
I wait till the burn up mine still at default -still running. Yep you boosted too soon.

That's because I prefer to have the speed and flexability that comes with a K series CPU, but I know nothing about OC'ing, so I don't do it. You see? Odd Duck. OC's kill CPU sooner than standard run is very true. Furthermore buying a processor that CAN be overclocked will last longer if you don't overclock compared to someone else who gets it an does overclock. That all said sometimes there is something that can make it last even longer...
Though most would cringe at it -Underclocking. It can actually -if done correctly add performance and stability.
I have an 3600x running at 1.150v and a clock of 3495Mhz and its far more stable. Granted it is stable at the default voltages and clock speeds. Over clocking values at even 10% pretty much cause lock up so yeah its probably a lower bin chip.
When running Cinebench R20 I get 1123 at the default and 1235 when at those underclocking settings. Still this about life of CPU's and OC's is true for all processors -even on the FX processors. Had an FX 4350 that ran for 10 years and 3 days before dying. It was never overclocked, never got above 60*C -never underclocked this one. Compared to this other 6300 which ran for seven years with a 10% over clock but still kept it cool and below 60*C So maybe if I underclocked both of these they would have lasted over a decade and a years to go.

But in the long run it kills your CPU and shortens its lifespan because it generates more heat Let me put it this way: How many CPUs have you killed? Cause I haven't, not a single one. Even the ones that I tried to bake and break didn't, and I have done some weird stuff. Heat on the other hand, has become a serious problem and should be taken into consideration. Hence I'm water cooling for the first time. I buy CPUs that can be OC'd That's not odd, that's just good sense.

Sometimes undervolting will make the system unstable, sometimes the opposite. Nothing is written anymore, it's all trial and error. And to make everything super confusing, you can get better clocks by undervolting. Are you then over- or underclocking? So maybe if I underclocked both of these they would have lasted over a decade and a years to go. Seems probable.

I have bricked ALOT of CPU's - mainly Intel but some AMD's too -posted a lot of them again several pages back. Well there is a way to limit heat -aside from liquid cooling, voltage, bios, clock speed: MS Control Panel -Power limit maximum 90-99$
Personally water cooling is something that -being a hydrophobe I would rather not deal with if a leak were to develop. That said good luck first-timer.
Which is rare these days so... probably the reason he claims his odd duck status.

Well you could always use a lower CPU like the 3600, upgrade the bios then upgrade to the 5000 Series. Instead of needing BIOS Flash Back but I most likely will do the same... oh wait I still have the 3600...
hehehahmuahahahahaha... Too much?
I know there are some cheaper boards that don't have the fan but those are the B550 and down the line.
Though some B550 boards do have the BIOS Flash Back... Unless the extra bandwidth of the X570's is absolutely paramount. Of course even with those B550's I think a 80mm fan couldn't hurt.
Yes it is always better to have a reserve than not.
In all CPU's heat over duration kills even in old CPU's this is true -case in point:
Just call it: INVERTED Volting or OVERT Volting.
Yeah just wish I had thought about it before they croaked... hindsight is 20/20 but the guilt is 500/1

I'm not one for the actual functionality of cases like this one.....But I do tip my hat for builds like this that are just pure creativity, and for the most part they 'work'. But purely speaking from a visual aesthetic 'eye candy' perspective....cases like this one are works of art.

knowing me will get you to know the first true Warp-Drive I should certainly hope so. I could use a warp-drive right about now. Can this actually be true? At this point it's only a rumour. But I don't see why not; it would actually be pretty cool. Sorry I haven't been very active lately, my vision has been blurry. Fingers know how to type, but eyes don't give much feedback about the outcome.

Unfortunately it would take the Big Sleep kind to sleep this off. There's a problem with the veins that is almost incurable. I hope your work on those artificial eyes is going nicely?

The brain is getting in the way of communication... That said is it Retinal Vein Occlusion or just Enlarged (Dilated) Veins or something else?

You guessed it, it's RVO. Probably due to having T2D.

A thought/question just popped into my head: Since I am running a Z490 Aorus Master (which apparently is PCIE 4.0 Ready) and a 10900KF....Will I be able to upgrade my 2080 Super down the line to a 3080TI (in about 4 years time)? Unless PC architecture changes dramatically in the next 3 to 4 years....Presently with the games I am playing such as the Tomb Raider reboot Trilogy, Jedi Fallen Order and the ME OT... I am more than happy with the performance and appearance of my newest PC.
Also, another thought just occurred to me: I read that "the 10900KF requires at least 64 GB DDR4 at 2666 to run well, so if you are only running 16 or 32 you should consider upgrading." When I bought the parts for my system I sourced everything from Amazon (with the exception of the PSU) and I purchased 32 GB of DDR4 from G.SKILL in a 2x16 package since it is a dual channel platform....If only going to 32 GB and 16gb chips were available, I figured 2x16 running in dual channel would be more efficient and just make more sense than 4x8. But having read this blurb, I am toying with the fleeting thought of upgrading to 64 gb.
Do I actually need 64 GB for the games I play? (When I game I don't have any other screens open)....unless I need to briefly check a walk through. Aside from the visual aesthetic of having all four RAM slots on my Board filled (mind you I don't actually notice a huge difference because I can't see the gaps left by open slots since the motherboard is black) is there any real-world performance need for me to upgrade to 64 GB?
And I've also been told that unless I buy the RAM together at the same time, there is a great chance that the second pair I buy will be defective and not work properly or as effeciently because they are more than likely of a different batch even if the specs and brand is exactly the same. I have known this to be true in years past from certain brands like Kingston (especially modules made in China rather than Taiwan) but does that same line hold true for today?

You guessed it, it's RVO. Probably due to having T2D. I take it its quite bad?
Have you used or had to have insulin? Do you still eat sugar or off it all together?

I am more than happy with the performance and appearance of my newest PC.If you have to do anything it may just be replacing the PSU that may be necessary. Though with the way things are going you may just want to skip the 3000 series altogether.
Also, another thought just occurred to me : I read that "the 10900KF requires at least 64 GB DDR4 at 2666 to run well, so if you are only running 16 or 32 you should consider upgrading." When I bought the parts for my system I sourced everything from Amazon (with the exception of the PSU) and I purchased 32 GB of DDR4 from G.SKILL in a 2x16 package since it is a dual channel platform....If only going to 32 GB and 16gb chips were available, I figured 2x16 running in dual channel would be more efficient and just make more sense than 4x8. But having read this blurb, I am toying with the fleeting thought of upgrading to 64 gb. S ource?Credible? Or iddiots?
Do I actually need 64 GB for the games I play? (When I game I don't have any other screens open)....unless I need to briefly check a walk through. Aside from the visual aesthetic of having all four RAM slots on my Board filled (mind you I don't actually notice a huge difference because I can't see the gaps left by open slots since the motherboard is black) is there any real-world performance need for me to upgrade to 64 GB? So you don't multi-task and only do the one game at a time? Well... If it runs that fine... I don't see why you need shell out more for more ram if it does what you want it to. Now if your wanting a 4K resolution and extreme graphics settings with RAY Tracing on... Sit. Down.
We Need To Talk.
This is a scare tactic in my opinion. While true on cheaper sticks it doesn't really hold up on mainstream chips.
Meaning that mainstream RAM sticks -that as long as timings, bandwidth and speed match they should work fine.
