So much other things to do, I've put it a bit to backburner. The price of CPU has gone down! But no GPU's alas For a lot of people, it's the case of "I've put together a badass PC, therefore I need to give it a badass GPU. For me, it's more like "I've got a badass GPU, therefore I need to build a PC for it."

However... I have a substandard GPU that will do in the mean time.
That means I will have bottleneck? To that I say this: At least it runs.
I currently have a Vega 56 and I will use that in place of these 3000 series. Maybe even avoid the 3000 series all together and get a 4000's series.

Why advertise a price drop if there is no stock to sell? I've seen this as well; I believe it's because the web store reverts to MSRP once the item sold is out of stock. It's kind of hilarious, because they are showing their retail markup to the world. And rather stupid too. Eventually drive all their customers away... At least their sane ones.

I only bought stuff that doesn't become obsolete soon. The price of CPU has gone down! Yeah, I noticed. Ryzens have gotten tad cheaper lately. Yes so true I have been watching the price of a 3060 on Amazon's prices like a hawk. Watching it go down cent by cent... till today when it jumped back up by $100 USD

My trusty local store had a sale, which hasn't happened in months, at least. I guess I should take it as good sign. So I bought some stuff for the build, a PSU and some hard drives. Still hunting for a GPU though; not going to pay over 500 guid for it. According to google that is about $693.25 USD if they be right which means you would be looking at the 1050/1650/1660 series.
Which sit around the $450 to $750 price range right now. Certainly that is more than I am willing to ever pay for a Graphics card: $550 max.
Still... Good going on getting PSU and hard drives...
They are not Seagate Exos are they? -back out of stock here. I also hope you didn't get the Gigabyte PSU that is causing headaches for alot people.

The prices of my 109000KF and Aorus Master have gone down as well-- but it's moot because there's none in stock anywhere at Canada COmputers. Why advertise a price drop if there is no stock to sell? "The 3090s are now FREE! We've made you wait so long since our initial deadline to have the stock on shelves that we are now having to give them away. Any make, any model 3090 of your choice is now completely free.........Only trouble is, there is still not even a single unit to be found anywhere in the world!More than that we are getting ready to push out our new 6090 TIs! Expected release date is sometime in 2030........ " Does that make sense?

Watching it go down cent by cent... till today when it jumped back up by $100 USD Yeah, there doesn't seem to be any logic behind it. which means you would be looking at the 1050/1650/1660 series. Which is totally bonkers, because I'm trying to upgrade, and my current card is a 1660 TI I'm trying to get a RTX 3060 or a RX 6600 XT. Entry level cards at ridiculous prices atm. Certainly that is more than I am willing to ever pay for a Graphics card: $550 max. That's usually my limit too, but I'm hoping to get the build done some day. And I'm hoping to pay no more than $650. They are not Seagate Exos are they? No, I got some cheap Seagate Barracudas for storage drives. I also hope you didn't get the Gigabyte PSU Nah, I follow Gamer's Nexus too. It's a Corsair RM 850X.

I've never liked Seagate HDDs, had pre-installed one in an old external and it crpped out in less than six months so I swapped it out for a WD Black Drive and smooth sailing for years.

I've never liked Seagate HDDs, had pre-installed one in an old external and it crpped out in less than six months so I swapped it out for a WD Black Drive and smooth sailing for years. Yes I had similar but even worse: I had Seagate drives that if they fell on the pillows I would put down around my work area they would NOT even register in the OS. Checking the power they would be plugged in but no power -they simply were dead -no chance of data recovery.
Barracuda and Firecuda drives were these.
Now on the flip side I have had Western Digital drives that would also fall on the pillows and when plugged in WOULD register in the OS. Though they were tricky to get data recovery to complete since they would stop responding then would respond if I rebooted. Try getting a 15GB file of a failing drive that took 20 some tries to recover.
Western Digital Green, Blue and Black drives were these.
That all said... Seagate does have one shining drive line in my opinion:
The Exos line. Granted those drives are built for endurance and long life time. The rest of the lines I doubt will ever exceed their warranty. MOST Western Digital drive lines are good all around and may exceed the warranty. HOWEVER Western Digital does have a line of hard drives that I wouldn't even give a puppy to play with: ULTRASTAR also known as Western Digital Gold. They are supposed to be Western Digital's Enterprise line. They. Are. Junk.
High Failure Rate, LOUD, Response time issues, Heating issues, sensors errors, ect.

Are combos really worth it from Newegg? That's a good offer; I can't get anything for that price. [Stares angrily across the ocean] The trouble is, I don't trust deliveries. I've been burnt before, because surface mounted components can't take high G-forces. Drop the parcel, and you may have just ruined a perfectly good GPU. And deliveries suck big time over here, so no. So not drives for your daily system? They are for my daily, but not for anything mission critical. Pictures ( I shoot in RAW ) and HD video, possibly my music archive and some extra backup space. Those probably wouldn't last in my file server for very long. It's where HDDs go to die. still old faithful method? Likely so, I didn't bother to check, just went 'Oh, cheap drives!' and bought them.

The only WD products I've used are Black at 7200 RPM and Blue at 5400 RPM and Green at 5400 (all have been excellent lasting close to a decade) but my HDDs are few....I have more M.2 NVMe drives now than anything else, next to 2.5 inch SSDs. I have two or three NVMe drives in my current rig on the motherboard, then I also have 2 SSDs on the back of the case. I have a bay of 3 HDDs (one with movies) but I have rarely used it.
My M.2s are all Samsung, my SSDs are a mix of Samsung and Crucial, but my magnetic drives are only Western Digital.

Your mileage use is DEFINITELY less than mine. Most of my WD blue lasted about 2.5 years. The one to 2 green I had lasted about a year.
Of my 20 or so WD BLKS I have had -three have failed in under a year and one in less than 3 months.
Had one that was vertical and making noises like hitting the housing. Turned it horizontal and it is now working still without incident... Granted though its only slightly over 2 year old now.
The rest of the WD BLKs I have lasted a little over five years -barring some newer ones still in need of getting that far. Actually here the current ones are: Drive 1=811 Days = 2.2219 Years = 2 Years, 2 Months, 2 Weeks, 6 Days, 2 Hours, 53 Minutes and 20 Seconds Drive 2=1,740 Days = 4.7671 Years = 4 Years and 9 Months
Drive 3=2,177 Days = 5.9643 Years = 5 Years, 11 Months, 2 Weeks, 3 Days, 3 Hours, 53 Minutes and 19 Seconds
Drive 4=2,248 Days = 6.1589 Years = 6 Years, 1 Month, 3 Weeks, 6 Days, 13 Hours, 26 Minutes and 39 Seconds Just had Drive 5 completely die so don't know about it now but it was the oldest.
So all-in-all WD BLKS are good for average user.

Personally I need drives that can handle writing 24/7/365. Drives that can handle the following usage: Watch video, edit & encode audio & edit & encode video, play a game or two while listening to music.
A system that can handle this for a decade for starters would be a good halfway point in my opinion. Which I guess is where I would fall now that my work load will be doubling soon and Blacks can't cut it anymore. Though it will have to be Exos for me I am not paying 400+ for some insane Seagate Nytro SSD 16 TB Enterprise level drive.
Fun bit of a side-note: I did my research and found that the MTBF of Exos was 2.5 million while WD Black are supposedly about 1.2 million. The WD Ultrastar/Gold-line were also 2.5 million MTBF but the actual failure rates among other failures of this drive line... Just proved that for a decade+ computer build this line wasn't worth it.

If you care about your data, you really should use RAID like RAID 1, RAID 10, and RAID 5. (Not RAID 0.) I don't know how many times I've had a HDD randomly fail on me and still manage not to lose any data due to RAID. It really is a lifesaver.

I don't know how many times I've had a HDD randomly fail on me and still manage not to lose any data due to RAID. It really is a lifesaver. I have not really looked at RAID and my knowledge of it is limited but seems expensive. Doesn't it store data from a single drive across multiple drives in different sectors on each drive? So Music storage may be in sector 1 on disk 1 but sector 7 disk 2?
If this site is any indicator I would probably have to go with RAID 5. Problem is Raid 5 isn't enough.
I would only feel safe with triple or quad parity if using RAID 5.
And this would just be too expensive. For each of the main drives that my new daily driver is going to have that would mean at the bare minimum:
Drive 1 -2 TB Main OS drive -3 2TB RAID 5 Drive 2 -4TB: GAMES MK1 -3 4TB RAID 5 Drive 3 -4TB: GAMES MK2 -3 4TB RAID 5 Drive 4 -4TB: OVERFLOW -3 4TB RAID 5 Drive 5 -8TB: EDITATION -3 8TB RAID 5 Drive 6 -4 TB VIDEO FILES -3 4TB RAID 5
Unless I completely misunderstood what you mean to which I appologize. It seems better to have a backup online, a backup onsite, a backup off-site as well as a shelved non-powered data storage on a shelf. Maybe even NAS but I have never gotten this far.

Triple parity would be RAID 7 but that's not very widely used. RAID 6 gives you double parity but that also means you need an extra HDD than RAID 5. Personally, I'm a fan of RAID 10. It gives you nearly the performance of RAID 0, but you still get that redundancy because they're mirrored. However, you need at least four (ideally identically) HDDs and it only gives you half of the total storage space. To be honest, even having just a single parity (RAID 5) is already miles better than having no redundancy at all for your data. Unless you don't mind manually backing up your stuff periodically. I'm just way too lazy for that.
