Which would be the best wood to build out of You mean the desk? I'd say the best wood type is the one that is available and you can easily purchase. Even thick MDF might do. Would MDF support the weight of two people standing on it? The only woods I know of are Pine, Oak, Mahogany, Cedar and Balsa but I believe the last one is very soft and weak. Which of these or is there a better one? Also do any of these happen to be more prone to splitting or splintering? I am going to say it: This thread rocks.

Also - DeWalt for battery powered. Makita for AC/mains powered. N00bs. Glad to hear I'm not a noob. I have a Makita rotary hammer with a 7 J impact. When you grab that Makita case, you know stuff got real. DragonKingReborn So I am a building noob... Pfft. I am proud of it. Things usually work the first time round for me. That is not ego I just plan, plan & plan everything out... Then I take action. Kind of like combining both of these: AND:

It was just a joke. I don’t actually care much what tools people use if they get the job done. I’ve always used DeWalt/Makita myself, because the guy I worked for when I got into my industry had those tools. The comfort of the familiar is important to me.

Me and jokes don't usually get along. Knocks knocks are about the closest I get to really understanding joke. I always get blamed for being too literal or taking things too seriously. Maybe I just don't get the playful nature of people -if that is what it is? Noted. Learning from the pros can definately leave a lasting impression. I have no stake in the comfort of familiar since I have never done this before.

Would MDF support the weight of two people standing on it? Probably not; I forgot that the desk must be able to withstand shindigs. Pine, Oak, Mahogany, Cedar Pine is definitely easiest to work with, but it is prone to splintering and warping. I would not use cedar indoors, as it tends to give off a scent. But there are different varieties, so YMMV. Oak and mahogany are hardwoods, so your tools had better be sharp, and prepare to predrill and sink the screws. Oak and mahogany are also sensitizers, so it would be better to do any sanding outdoors and to wear a mask. Of these, I would recommend you use pine. It's forgiving and easy to glue and sand. And just a thought: would a kitchen countertop work for you? It sure would be sturdy.

Cherry is a "hard wood", though not as hard as Oak or Maple for example....I think in comparison, Cherry is a softer wood much like Pine though it is still hard enough to make furniture out of.....We have few pieces (end tables,a sofa table and a wing chair) made of cherry wood (beautiful wood), but it knicks and scratches easily. Also shows stains such as spilt coffee unless you attend it the spill IMMEDIATELY and with all haste, because it is a very absorbant wood.... which is a good and bad thing. Wonderful for finishing/staining because you can get excellent grain and colour....But also, as I said, it can easily show other things such as unwanted/unintended spills/stains. www.bing.com/search?q=is+cherry+wood+an+absorbant+wood%3F&cvid=ce459510b62d4fdba08371a950ebc504&aqs=edge..69i57j0l8.18339j0j1&FORM=ANNTA1&PC=U531

Budget is everything, if we are talking lumber in 2024. My built-in I just finished, has two 24x24x96 closet encasing a window bench that is 68" wide, with shelves above the end drawers of the bench also going to the ceiling. 7 drawers made, 4 doors and 8 drawer faces made (false drawer front for an air vent).
I am not a professional, but I just bought a lot of wood to do that job. If budget is no issue, walnut oak or cherry make it lovely. If you are on a regular budget but want a nice result, baltic birch plywood will be costly but worth it for the quality of the material. If that is still too rich, I feel confident that you can get a nice result with BC sanded pine plywood.
As for thickness to support 200kg - all depends on the spacing of the support. 3/4 can't handle that without good support, but with proper support 3/4 (18/19mm) is plenty. Show us a drawing, I can tell you more... my skills have grown enough where I will talk a little if I know something.
...
Had to replace my second G703 today. First one was RMA, this second one held on for a while, although I know that was done with a software fix for their bad switch design (double clicking on any click is my issue). What put it over the top, was starting a game of ME3MP today and when I right-clicked to zoom, I was getting googly eyes like I had just seen boobies or something. Had to quit immediately, and go to MicroCenter.
Bought the Razer Viper v3 Pro. Very light compared to the G703, which will take some getting used to. Immediately noticed proper clicking behavior an hour ago in a run of 3 MP matches, much much better overall... I had known that I was having left-click double clicks, but those are somewhat manageable and mitigated by their software "fix". The right-click.. NUPE.
...
Gamestream is dead. So, now, is Nvidia to me. The 3070 is my last team green thing ever, I can say with honesty. I'm all with Linus and EVGA - fuck Nvidia. They have kept the Shield alive longer than I expected with updates, but turning off the reason I bought the damned thing is a pretty shit move. I invested in their eco for years, and that is over. Since I was at MicroCenter, looked at 5600G and some inexpensive motherboards... I will wait for the next gen G series, and that will be the new HTPC build. Nvidia told us to use Steam Link.... LOL ok buddy.

Went to Best Buy to pick up the 4090 today. ..and it was huge. My CableMod 12VHPWR cable probably won't arrive for another week. So I'll just use the stock adapter for now. It doesn't look pretty. The 4090 Windforce runs between 20-30C cooler than my 3090 FTW3. So far I've only played Cyberpunk for a couple hours. The GPU temp peaks at 62C and the GPU hotspot at 67C. While the memory at 59C maximum so far. My 3090 FTW3's GPU hotspot would be at 90C and memory at 92C maximum. Build quality wise, the Gigabyte actually feels like a downgrade. The 3090 FTW3 definitely feels more sturdy.

The 3090 FTW3 definitely feels more sturdy. The Gigabyte Windforce series is your middle-of-the-road offering from Gigabyte (according to Gigabyte reps)....If you're looking for build quality and performance that equals the FTW 3 from EVGA, the step up would be the AORUS division and its MASTER line up. Over all though, Gigabyte is pretty equal to EVGA especially offering a 4 year warranty on their GPUs where most other companies only affer 2 or 3 year warranties. I'm kind jealous. I like my 2080 Super FTW 3 Ultra Gaming, it was the card I wanted originally so I got what I was planning on because I couldn't afford the 2080 TI and the 30 series had yet to be released-- and then when it was, it had all those problems, so I counted myself fortunate....But now I'm just hoping that my 2080 and 10900K will run Jedi Survivor at 4K like it does Fallen Order where as if I had a 13900K and a 3090 or 4090 I'd be laughing at 4K: *Mocking Tone* (please..... My system can run 8K at 120!) But all in all I'm sure I will be just fine for several more years.....and with your new beasty, I know you will. Good on ya! I hope you have a Merry CHristmas and happy new year! Stay safe and warm.

Over all though, Gigabyte is pretty equal to EVGA especially offering a 4 year warranty on their GPUs where most other companies only affer 2 or 3 year warranties. For the RTX 4090, there actually isn't that much difference in terms of performance between different "tiers" of cards. So the differences between Strix, Tuf, Suprim, Gaming Trio, Gaming OC, AORUS Master, and the lowly Windforce are actually very minimal. Overclocking the 4090 also doesn't offer that much real world performance gain in relation to the increased power consumption and heat generation. If you're buying one of those premium cards like the $2000 Asus Strix and the $1800 AORUS Master, you're paying for the better cooler, better power delivery, higher power limit (450w vs 600w), better build quality, and sometimes better warranty. I went with the Gigabyte because out of all the brands, Gigabyte and Nvidia Founders Edition are the ones that don't have that much coil whine. Zotac cards are good as well but they have cheap fans that rattle. The Windforce is the cheapest Gigabyte model, but it doesn't have RGB and it only has a three-year warranty instead of the four-year that you get on the Gaming OC and AORUS Master. So I decided to save money instead. I could live with the cheap plastic cooler housing and save a few dollars.

Gigabyte has what?... G. Windforce, G. AERO, G. GAMING, G. EAGLE, -& then: AORUS ELITE, AORUS Master & AORUS XTREME WATERFORCE... I think that is all of them -not sure if that is the price range order though. So basically two tiers with much greater diversity in the tiers. So it is easier to pick and know what your are getting for you money indeed.

Since the other two Zotacs I have had: The 9600GT and the 970 never rattled and their fans lived past four years at 100% speed 24/7/365. Maybe that is it though: The fans rattle because people are not pushing the fans hard enough. That or since I have GPU standing upright like a test bench there is no rattling. Still... if it comes down to price I negate the fans completely -I focus on PCB and heat sink design. The defaults fans are gonna be removed period.: The default fans should be easily to remove anyway in all GPU's. Let the customer make use of better fans if they want. My IceGale fans are much better GPU fans than stock GPU fans could ever be. I doubt the manufactures will ever do this... oh wait ASUS and Noctua did -horrible looking but still that design is a win:

The XC3, XC3 Black, XC3 Ultra, FTW3, FTW3 Ultra (what I have), and the Kingpin Hybrid. Gigabyte has four different RTX 4090 models for now. There's the Windforce, Waterforce, Gaming OC, and AORUS Master. Apparently, it's pretty common for newer Zotac cards to have fans that rattle. My Zotac GTX 1080 AMP Extreme also had fans that made slight rattling noise. Some RTX 4090 owners even returned their Zotac cards because of it.

They should just follow tutorial on 120ify GPU's -I will gladly do it -not to mention better fan control and better performance. That said... I wish there was a way to stifle this throwaway generation... Maybe they will throw themselves away? Pfft. Doubt It.

It is a shame what society has come to that people just trash or return what doesn't act the way they want... Wish there was a way to stifle this throwaway generation... Maybe they will throw themselves away? Pfft. Doubt It. Returning them doesn't mean throwing them away. These are expensive GPUs and no one is throwing them away. Haha. Zotac will fix them up, sell them as refurbished products or save them for RMA replacements. When normal people pay $1600-$1700 for a single GPU, there are some expectations that come with that kind of price tag. Including above average quality control and in this case, fans that actually don't rattle. It's not even that much to ask for. These fans don't even cost that much. Just source better ones from OEM suppliers for a couple cents more. This is just Zotac's cost cutting. So I can't fault people for returning their brand new Zotac cards because of rattling fans. It's their hard-earned money.

I look at it as if you purchased and it isn't working as intended then its your responsibility to make it work right if its trivial. Yes. I consider coil whine or wobbly fans trivial. If it exists then its time to just remove them yourself and put better ones in the place. Maybe I just learned that self-reliance lesson too well growing up: You know the Idiom: Use everything, waste nothing... Or maybe I just watched too much Macgyver -the ORIGINAL -not the remake crap.

Haha. Unfortunately, the majority of people don't share your opinions. There are actual trivial things that your average customers can easily fix themselves but you can't fix coil whine. You can try to replacing other components like your PSU to minimize it, but that's not guaranteed fix. You either return the product or learn to live with it. It is also unreasonable to expect buyers to replace the defective fans by themselves on a brand new product that's still under warranty. Especially when it costs $1600-$1700. Premium price tags should come with premium quality or at least customer care.

Nope, that's just the reality. Every electronic component has coil whine and some are just more noticeable than others. If you get annoying and audible coil whine from your video card, it isn't something that you can fix it yourself like replacing a rattling fan. Sometimes using a different PSU might help dampening it. You can also try limiting the framerate, changing voltage, or underclocking the GPU, but the coil whine will always be there. You can also turn up the fans to drown it out or move your PC farther away from you, but that's pretty much all you can do to "fix" it other than replacing it with another video card. A lot of people have already returned their MSI and Asus 4090 cards because of coil whine. Remember, the 4090 are still constantly out of stock and quite difficult to obtain for MSRP. If the owners are returning them and the retailers/manufacturers are accepting these returns, you know the coil whine on these cards are pretty bad. Keep in mind that manufacturers don't consider coil whine as a "defect" since it doesn't affect the performance or the functionality of the product.

Reality is subjective -not concrete -if you understand how it can be made malleable. Otherwise there would be no advancement and we as a static species would and should deserve to be extinguished. Still... I don't believe the returns are just for coil whine -remember the connector fiasco. Buyers may have got the alert about it and stopped using and not wanting to deal with the headache so they decided to return the card. I would like to see the sale numbers for the 4090's that were returned for Radeon cards. At least it gives them debugging stock to find the issue. An issue that is more likely to be is too much spacing in the choke housing or choke assembly on the GPU PCB...

I doubt this and would even consider it hogwash to an extent. Coil whine is energy vibration at the core of the issue and it can be more or less eliminated. There are four things you didn't mention and they remove FAR more coil whine than those "tweaks" you mention. 1. Depending on the connections -using devoted GPU connectors from the PSU -not a splitted design -one per GPU plug. 2. Removing the GPU backplate can actually reduce coil whine. 3. The big one: www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/how-to-quickly-easily-fix-coil-whine-coil-choke-noise.294015/ Note here: It HAS TO BE a Cyanoacrylate base that is used on the chokes -anything different is bound to lead to problems. 4. One other going off the last -is using silicone and zip tie method but unlike method three its either hit or miss. This time it hits: Doing ALL of this plus what you mention -except moving the case and you can be almost certain that Coil Whine will either be gone or ALOT and I mean ALOT less. I just find returning a product for something that doesn't affect its performance ridiculous. For me if its not functioning correctly then I will find a way to make it work better.

I doubt this and would even consider it hogwash to an extent. Coil whine is energy vibration at the core of the issue and it can be more or less eliminated. It's true. There is always coil whine in electronic components. It's just some are more noticeable than others. Most of the time, it's just in a frequency range that isn't perceptible by human ear. 1. Depending on the connections -using devoted GPU connectors from the PSU -not a splitted design -one per GPU plug. That might help, but it didn't work for neither of my 3090 FTW3 cards (the original and the RMA replacement). 2. Removing the GPU backplate can actually reduce coil whine. I haven't heard of this fix to be honest, but it wouldn't work for my 3090 FTW3 either because it needed the backplate to cool the memory. Most of the 4090 cards also use their backplates to dissipate heat. So that's not something that I would remove. That actually requires disassembling the card and potentially voiding the warranty. Plus you have to find the component that's causing the vibration. So it is quite a time consuming task. It's definitely a job that most people aren't gonna bother. 4. One other going off the last -is using silicone and zip tie method but unlike method three its either hit or miss. This time it hits: I haven't seen this method either. That's quite interesting. Thanks for posting it. Unfortunately, not too many people are as handy or as skillful a TronicsFix or Louis Rossmann. I would never open up a PS5's PSU and do this kind of repairs myself. Ultimately, most people are not gonna attempt these kinds of repairs on products that are still under warranty. Not everyone is capable of handling these sensitive electronics either. So it makes more sense to just return them back to the retailers and get the money back, or send them back to manufacturers and let them do the repairs instead. On the side note, you should plug in your Zotac 3070 Ti and see if the fans rattle as well. Haha.

It's true. There is always coil whine in electronic components. It's just some are more noticeable than others. Most of the time, it's just in a frequency range that isn't perceptible by human ear. Sorry maybe I should be technical... I was saying that this specific quote: it isn't something that you can fix it yourself like replacing a rattling fan. Was hogwash. Not that fact the coil whine doesn't exist. As my post would rather seem to stipulate. That might help, but it didn't work for neither of my 3090 FTW3 cards (the original and the RMA replacement). Yep. 4000 series are limited from this... maybe 4000 series deserves its coil whine? 4000 series RIP the series of goof ups and mistakes and backpedals. I haven't heard of this fix to be honest, but it wouldn't work for my 3090 FTW3 either because it needed the backplate to cool the memory. The EVGA needed the backplate to cool it? Didn't think it was liquid... it isn't right? Haha, that actually requires disassembling the card and potentially voiding the warranty. Plus you have to find the component that's causing the vibration. So it is quite a time consuming task. Sometimes to get the best result you go to do what may take lots of time but usually the reward is quite rewarding. I haven't seen this method either. That's quite interesting. Thanks for posting it. Your welcome and it is sad that people don't want to learn to make something better for themselves. Where did the hard work ethic go in America? On the side note, you should plug in your Zotac 3070 and see if the fans rattle as well. Haha. Kinda of hard to do since that would require removing the zip-ties and reattaching the shroud and putting the default non IceGales back on there. What? I figured I would do something since it is still taking forever for those two things to arrive. AND THE MINUTE I GO TO GET THE HARD DRIVES -THEY ARE ON BACK ORDER!!!... IF NOT by new year that is it I am going for Amazon for hard drives!

Your welcome and it is sad that people don't want to learn to make something better for themselves. Where did the hard work ethic go in America? I mean in case of the PS5 PSU in your video, you might even accidentally electrocute yourself. So I'd leave that to the professionals. Even a simple job like repasting the thermal compound and replacing the thermal pads on your video card could potentially damage your card. Things like that happen way more often than you think. Also, time is money to most people. Not everyone has the time, skills, or patience to repair things themselves. Especially on brand new things that are still under warranty or within the 30-day return period. I hope that makes sense to you.
