Unless the 1080 TI GPU is using its 250W maximum wattage -though since never used a 1080TI can not attest to whether how often it does that. As a proud owner of a 1080Ti for 6 years (now honorably retired) I can say that even at a 0.850v undervolt it still hits 200W under load. So you bet it gets to the full 250w at stock or at undervolts to about 0.915v. As a side note - a 13700k can be power limited in BIOS to 90w and barely loses any performance. Well it loses at that wattage quite a lot, depending on the work load (multicore heavy) - but I am also going to run it maybe 190W max, which gives the max perf minus 5% Note that audio loads are never going to hit that in realtime because of the thread managing in the host and plugins etc. even though you can hit 100% audio usage. Single core perf is going to run out first always. The new AMD's can be limited more than new Intels, meaning they dont get so much performance hit - could not quickly find the article but here is another www.pcworld.com/article/1359352/cool-down-a-deep-dive-into-13900k-power-use-and-efficiency.htmlAnyway, its good we have the possibility to limit straight in BIOS. A lot of the motherboard manufacturers leave it as unlimited though..

As a side note - a 13700k can be power limited in BIOS to 90w and barely loses any performance. I read about this. I will definitely try that! Only part of my new build I haven't ordered yet is the board. Yesterday I ordered the cooler and SSD, again off Amazon. The SSD was only 1€ more expensive there and they gave me a 5€ voucher so I saved 4 bucks, lololol. Will probably order the board tonight after midnight to get free shipping. Haven't gotten a hold of my friend with the computer builder friend yet, unfortunately. If that doesn't work out there are two guys in my area listed on a message board who help others put their computers together. That's cool. No idea what they charge though. But probably less than a proper company.

So in the continuing saga of DazK v Windows 11 and Onedrive I did a "Fresh Restart" again yesterday using a checklist to make sure I was making the right choices to get it installed "locally". What the checklist showed was that the option to install locally was just not being given, so I proceeded anyway and just followed another option which was to set up another User Account without a Windows account linked to it and made it a "Local" account. This worked out and it is actually amazing what a difference it has made speed wise in terms of the internet etc. Installed Outlook locally first time without any dramas which I had had before, installed all my game launchers except GOG, installed FRAPS, GeForce Experience and turned on to DLR in the Nvidia Control Panel. Thanks to saandrig once again for graphics set up help with my new PC. Had time to install MEA and MODS and it worked fine and also installed AC Odyssey which I am about halfway through for the 5th PT. MEA Looks magnificent using DLDSR (2.25xDR) and a "Smoothness" factor of 75% and with my new GPU able to run it all on Ultra or High settings. Odyssey loos much improved but doesn't benefit as much as it already was graphically pretty great. Only took a few poor shots during the short time I had to play (will do soem better ones today) but even in Odyssey with almost everything as High as possible the quality of the detail, colour and contrast is pretty great and benchmarked at IIRC around 105 to 110 FPS. Can someone recommend a GPU etc. monitoring app? MEA

I don't really want to spend so much money for a high end PC. Most of my gaming is on my PS5. I've been thinking about getting a computer for multimedia purposes (art, music, videos, and internet), with a little room for some games, namely ones I can't play on PS5 (Halo: Master Chief Collection, Dragon Age: Origins, DA2, and Gmod). Top of the line hardware has become way to expensive. The amount of money I'd spend for an RTX 4090 is enough buy a used car, with money left over. I need a new computer, though. I've been thinking either a $300-$400 desktop, or one of those Mini PCs, and with enough power to at least play some of those aforementioned games at 1080p-1440p at 30fps.

I don't normally worry but yesterday for some reason my PC which normally doesn't make hardly a sound went berserk and I have no idea what caused it. In addition, you can also use HwINFO with MSI Afterburner and RTSS (those last two should be together anyway). Btw, the most common reason for a PC to become loud all of a sudden is uncapped framerate and a game that shoots up to a 1000+ FPS in menus. So always set a FPS cap. HwInfo allows for a more subtle or more aggressive OSD setup and with lots of stuff to setup and monitor. For example I use three rows with a smaller font at my upper left corner. First row is a bunch of CPU data (temp, load, etc), second row is GPU (temp, load, fan speed, power draw, etc) and third row is just the FPS counter. Plenty of videos how to setup (its easy, but people get too detailed in videos anyway), so I'll just throw a long and short video

Note that machine is 10 years old and an ultra portable laptop.

What is the budget? $400? FYI H-MC and DAO would not run well on a MINI PC. An Intel NUC is an option but I don't see one for less than $800. If your wanting RTX your going to be breaking the bank for the GPU no matter what. If you don't worry about RTX then any GPU would work for 1080p all the way back to 1000 GTX series. However for 1440p you would need better than that. If I may ask what is your current storage capacity and do you want or need more? Also are you making art, music and videos or just watching and listening too?

I have no idea how to build one myself. Maybe one with power comparable to an Xbox One X. It's weird. I thought mini PCs with Ryzen 5 processors, and AMD Radeon Vega 7-8 GPUs would run those games just fine. I would like to draw again. If anything, I might just have to buy a laptop for that, and an Xbox One X for said games.

If anything, I might just have to buy a laptop for that, and an Xbox One X for said games. Ah I see where your going. AMD Mini PCs are called Zbox's and are an option but they will not have a hard drive, OS or ram. They only have the CPU. And the price still sits at over $400. Your better off with an APU if your going that route. Trouble is you may have to update the motherboard before you could even use it. Thus an old combination may be better for you. Still would need to have someone build it for you if you don't want to but it can be more expensive if they would not do it for free. You could watch Linus's video on how to do it. Pre-builts are often built using sub-par components -not all the time but sometimes. That is how they sell it for so little. Again how much hard drive compacity do you need? I will try to build a build on PC Part Picker.

If anything, I might just have to buy a laptop for that, and an Xbox One X for said games. Here is a system at: $480.30 -without the OS. pcpartpicker.com/list/Nw9QFgNow here is a like system without the GPU and using an APU -also without the OS: pcpartpicker.com/list/sLjQFgSits at $373.18 Please note the the RX580 is on Par with the XBOX1X GPU-wise. The reason most don't do APU's though -is that sometimes -not all the time the Motherboard still needs a BIOS update to work with it. That though is usually on newer hardware and now that 3000 has matured with these boards it shouldn't be an issue... There is always a chance -that is why APU'ers usually have a CPU that can be used to BIOS update then switch back to the APU. Don't know how you are on putting an OS on a computer. I will not advise shelling out an extra $150 -unless going the APU route -which is number 7 here: www.tomshardware.com/reviews/get-windows-10-free-or-cheap,5717.html

He is wanting from my understanding a GPU comparable to the Xbox One X and I believe that is the RX 580 -which is $50-60 cheaper than the RX6600. The other that is of comparison -the 1060 is at a exorbitant price -$350+ Noticed three PPP errors. The PSU and case in the Intel are not added into the price on PPP Since the case runs about $50+ PSU will add another $50 if new -it sits at around $75 currently on Amazon Used and not available on Newegg. This will bring the AMD build up to around $550 . The Intel build will rise to around $565-570. Also is the Cyberbron is an Enermax PSU... Isn't that a bad PSU line?

The good thing about PC parts is that they depreciate as quickly as a half-eaten ice cream cone. They keep getting cheaper everyday.

He doesn't check with his own spec charts on what to do. "Do as he says not as he does". He so often says. I would rather listen to Anthony.

I'm pretty sure he didn't pick these himself personally, but his writers did. Linus is way too busy for these details unfortunately. Still, it shows you what is possible if you're willing to pick up a screw driver and take your chances. If everything works out, you end up with a GPU that's almost twice as fast as the RX 580.

Yeah the system I was thinking about actually posting for him also had the 6600 but it would also put even the APU system over $500 -their budget. Also its the reason I included two sticks of ram -especially for the APU build -the XBX1 only has -I think 12 GB of RAM -be it GDDR ram but nevertheless -two sticks would give the system a fighting chance. That is why I sacrificed the 6600 for more TB space and RAM. If the person asking just wants the machine to run old games and doesn't really care about current gen or next -since they play those on console anyway and they want the system for watching, listening and or drawing -I will try to accommodate. You wouldn't believe how hard it is to find a modular lower watt PSU of credible review... I am still looking for him something better. Found better.

So a general use PC? What is the budget? $400? FYI H-MC and DAO would not run well on a MINI PC. An Intel NUC is an option but I don't see one for less than $800. If your wanting RTX your going to be breaking the bank for the GPU no matter what. If you don't worry about RTX then any GPU would work for 1080p all the way back to 1000 GTX series. However for 1440p you would need better than that. If I may ask what is your current storage capacity and do you want or need more? Also are you making art, music and videos or just watching and listening too? I really don't want to break the bank. I just want a pre built computer no more than $500. This is about the best I think I can do if you need an APU -system minus a GPU: $373.18 pcpartpicker.com/list/sLjQFgAgain this does not include the OS nor personal install. I added a 1TB hard drive for all the music, video and of course games -that can add up quickly in size. The 500GB SSD is for the OS -which will make it snappy. Just as long as if you decide to edit audio you don't save stuff repeatedly to the desktop. Would be more wear and tear on the SSD -which one of the things that still makes conventional drives a good choice. Also if you never done it I understand. But you know what they say: "No time like the present".

You can even buy a used office PC and add a low power video card.
That's one less PC going to the landfill.

I'm calling it right now: The new STAR WARS Outlaws game will need a 13900K, 64 GB DDR5 @ 5600 and a 4080 as the Minimum Specs to run 1440p at 30hz with Medium Settings.
OR something else equally insane that I won't be able to run with my 10900K, 32 GB DDR4 @ 3000 and 8GB 2080 Super FTW 3 (which can presently run even Shadows of the Tomb Raider, Fallen Order and Jedi Survivor at 4K/60 hz with all Settings on Epic/Ultra....and with RTX turned ON in the case of SoTR).
All I can say is though....When the 3rd and final installment of Cal's epic saga is released, I'd better be able to run it with the system I have because I won't be upgrading at the current market cost of hardware. Even if the 30 series is gone by the wayside and the 40 series is then 5 years old, they will still be stupidly expensive.
Presently though, I'm quite happy with my current set-up. I can honestly say that I wouldn't want to upgrade anything at this point, not given the current prices. To get a full system that is equal to or better in performance that everything I presently have.....It would cost me close to 7 or 8,000 CAD.....Only to be outdated within 18 months because something newer, better, hotter, faster came out.
*thinking to self* No, I think when I put this system together back in July of 21.... I think I chose the best parts I could that would last me the longest...And considering how well all my games perform and how well my system has held up (now that I have finally solved that horrible flashing bheaviour)....I'm happy with it. And with the one exception of completing Cal's trilogy....I think I'm done with buying games for a while........Until the next Mass Effect game comes out.
However, to bring this thread back to topic....I have heard more and more recently that the 14th Gen of Intel CPUs will be requiring a totally new Motherboard socket set, chipset.....A complete overhaul. So everything from the 1700 series that is presently out for those who bought the 12 and 13 Gen CPUs will be....basically useless and wasted money.
