I too am over 450 games... nearing 500 myself. Most of the ones on my wishlist though are not out yet. Where we differ is I have to have all installed due to the low internet speed I have its taken years to get them all. I would not dare to not have all installed. For if one day I just had the inkling to up and play IC or GS on the spur of the moment I would be waiting hours for the download to complete. A lot of newer games take up so much space, like Modern Warfare that takes up almost 230GB. I have a 1Gbps fiber optic Internet connection, but I still keep backup files of these games on my NAS. This way I don't need to download everything again when I need to install them again. It also makes it a lot quicker to install them on other PCs. Having an NAS is great. I also like to keep my SSDs and HDDs no more than 70% full in order to maintain the performance. I'll clone the entire drive with EaseUS through a USB-C M.2 enclosure and just swap in the new drive. I think I'll use this opportunity to clean the PC as well.

Sometimes it doesn't work that easy with installing games from steam to other computers. Especially with MMOs -steam has a hard time with it -it seems. Or maybe I just don't understand the ins and outs of its file structure -find that hard to believe. If I try it on one PC and then do the install to another sometimes the whole game wants to redownload even if in the same folder but pretty sure that has to do with MMOs patches. STO, SWTOR and Warframe among them. Glad I don't play CoD games. The second one was my limit -after that they just spent to much on facial animation. Hey you know what is fun: Mortal Kombat 11 is over 100GB in size... Well it took me EIGHT days to download at 3Mb/s. I like to keep my drives no more than 40 to 50% -for different reasons of course. Let the free space be used to reallocate damage if needed. I copy games from system drives to spares the old fashion way. Unless they have improved cloning so a copy of a copy of a copy of a copy doesn't get badly degraded. I just increased my games with the sale today as a matter of fact: .

When you install a game through a backup created by Steam, you usually need to download some files to keep the game updated. So that's normal. I haven't been buying too many games to be honest. GTA Online keeps me quite busy because Rockstar still update the game quite regularly.

I still have not done reviews because who in their right mind would understand me in the first place. I have tried to back up some games but its often greyed out and yes there is more than ample space so it can't be that. So I gave up on it long ago. What I refer to is not exactly that. Its the size of the patches. For instance the Crew 2 install is around 45GB and then copy it over to another PC and how much does the verify claim to need to redownload... 45GB. Also it often claims the game isn't installed when it is. As I think about it maybe its down to the other launcher programs making complications -you know UPLAY and ORIGIN.

I actually finished an entire playthrough of Cyberpunk 2077 with RT Overdrive. I did that just to be able to experience the entire game with Path Tracing. I say it's probably best to just use normal Ray Tracing settings instead. The game looks more realistic with RT Overdrive, but I don't think it looks any better than normal RT. It is not really worth the performance tradeoffs. If you want to use RT Overdrive, you definitely need to use Nvidia's Frame Generation. Same feelings here. I played a lot of CP2077 with RT Overdrive. It definitely changes the look of the game during nights and inside most buildings. I like how it makes the setting as a more noir, but at the end of the day it's not exactly an improvement. More of an art style change. You may like it, you may hate it.
The regular RT (or no RT at all) works just fine as well and gives you good atmosphere. At significantly less loads, lol.

So for me it's still the question which overpriced Nvidia card I should buy. 4070 now and hope for a 5070 with 16 or 20GB in two years? Or 4080/4090 hoping to keep it for 5-6 years. Hmmmm. Latest reports indicate that all GPU manufacturers have moved their follow up generations for 2025 (not 2024 as was the usual cycle). It's all but officially confirmed that Nvidia will do that for their 5000 series.
So a 5070 is probably a 2026 thing if it releases after the 2025 launch of the 5090 and 5080.
Just something to keep in mind when planning a new GPU.

Speaking of burning money, I took advantage of Amazon's Prime Day sales and bought a 4TB WD SN850X SSD for $230. I'll use it to upgrade my 2TB SN850. It is my Steam drive and it's almost 70% full. That's 300€ on "sale" in Germany. I checked Prime Day prices against what I paid for my M.2 and of course they list bogus prices and claim a 42% price drop when in reality it's ten bucks, lol. I usually ignore such scam sale days. I guess sometimes there's a good deal. It's rarely the case though. Still debating whether or not I should buy another M.2 and put everything on SSDs like you and ditch the HDDs, or rather mostly not use them anymore. Because every time I'm backing up my modded games it takes like an hour for each because it's like 80GB. And that's just Fallout and Skyrim. Starfield alone without mods will be huge. M.2 3.0 and SATA seem to have the same price now! That's awesome. Of course HDDs are half the price still but then again I won't need a lot of space. Two 2 TB M.2 should be sufficient for me for years to come. Only games I don't uninstall right after finishing them are my modded Bethesda games. I've managed with 500GB on the games drive for eight years!!! And I still got those extra 500GB now that everything got wiped. *cough*

The 24h stress test results are in and it's a defective RAM bar! System runs fine with just the other one.
I'm one week over the 30 days return period. So now I gotta figure out how to get it replaced. There's no return button that I can find. I'd need to talk to customer support apparently, jeez... PC guys says buy Kingston instead. Which I think I had before in my old system, lol.

Should make sure its not the motherboard. Whoops I am sorry the Tech guy probably did that. Though if he didn't be sure you do that first -it will save you money. I know that would be a rarity but what good will another RAM chip do if the RAM slot is actually bad. Which Model was your RAM chips again? That said Kingston is a good brand.

I know that would be a rarity but what good will another RAM chip do if the RAM slot is actually bad. Which Model was your RAM chips again? That said Kingston is a good brand. Kingston USED TO BE a good brand, you mean. IF.....and that is a very big two letter word, if you don't get a batch that is made in China.....then yes, they are good. As good as Crucial, Corsair, Mushkin. Even though Kingston has four major facilities around the world...US, Shanghai, Taiwan and Britain, as well as an Corprpate Office in Ireland....Most of their manufacturing is done in Shanghai. Most of the Kingston RAM that I have seen (here in Canada, anyhow) is from Shanghai, China...and they are utter garbage. I've lost count the number of Canad COmputer Technicians I've talked to who have said they have seen customers come in with PC problems, and their problems stem from defective RAM (and the customer's RAM of choice was a batch of Kingston RAM from China). In fact, I was in the store one time in '21 when I was having my PC built, and that very day I over heard some Tech behind the counter talk about a custom'er RAM issues, and then he looked up the batch number and P/N and it was a batch from Shanghai. The tech that I was speaking to at that moment made some passing comment to me that "yeah in the last month we've had at least at least a dozen people bring in their PCs with RAM problems...and their RAM is Kingston RAM from China. [PAUSE] Not sure why but all we are getting lately in terms of shipments in Kingston RAM, it's all from China. And within six months it turns out to be defective." And back in 2013 even I had problems with Kingston RAM, which is why when I built my Phoenix SLI rig in 2016 I chose to go with G.SKILL. But back in the day (1995 to 2010) Kingston was a very good brand, and now if you can find a batch that is made either in the US or Taiwan...then you'll have good RAM. Maybe it's a Distribution thing....maybe you all who live elsewhere in the world see RAM from different places, but here in Canada, I wouldn't be surprised if 90% of all the Kingston RAM is from China.

I know that would be a rarity but what good will another RAM chip do if the RAM slot is actually bad. Which Model was your RAM chips again? That said Kingston is a good brand. It's Corsair Vengeance. I actually had Crucial Ballistix before. The cheapest slowest RAM at the time, lol. The Kingston would be 20€ more expensive for the same speed. Not sure if I should pay extra or assume the Corsair replacement will work fine. Because surely nobody is unlucky twice?! He said of the 1500 computers he put together over the years with Kingston, just 2 or so were defective. But I guess you can get unlucky with any brand. I sent him a message asking about the board slot. No reply yet. It's probably standard procedure and it's insulting to ask but well. Better safe than sorry! He will bring me the PC in the evening with just the one RAM bar. Told me to download a bunch of games again and play some, to make sure everything is working fine. He did not get any more blue screens since running only one RAM bar. I did ask him before if my RAM being OC on the board and needing adjustment could cause issues? Told him to unlock it in BIOS. Today he said it puts it on OC automatically?? So that shouldn't be the cause of issues. (I'm not sure I'm relaying all info correctlly though, keep that in mind.) There were other errors in the stress test but they can be ignored probably. Repeated CPU heat errors at 100 degrees. Afaik those temps for stress tests are normal, right? The 13700k runs hot. I hope it doesn't mean my cooler isn't good enough. Gaming usually doesn't reach those temps for long periods of time, right? Dude told me to adjust the fan curve. I have never done that, lol. I just kept my machine on default for 8 years. I only adjusted the fan speed by that button on the case, 3 speeds. I game on max almost all the time unless it's an indie game. I game with headphones on so I don't hear the otherwise kinda loud fans... Minor writing errors on the SATA. He does NOT think it's failing. Could be due to the heat. He said they can last twice as long. But I should of course do backups frequently because once SSDs are dead they're dead. Apparently with HDDs it's possible to still access them somehow and save the data? Well, I plan on putting only unmodded games on the old SATA so if it dies, it's no loss at all. I can just download the games again on a different drive and access savefiles from the cloud. I asked him about adding another M.2 and he said that would be a bad idea because if I understood correctly the one installed is already causing the card to heat up a bit, so he put the card on the slot a little further away, and even more heat on the GPU would not be a good thing. All this talk about temps is making me nervous... I don't know what's normal and what isn't and how it effects the longevity of the components. Gosh, everything ran butter smooth for all those years on the old machine. Then again I never did any tests so I don't know if some things were not ideal.

A lot of people like to quote articles talking about RTX 4090's massive 600 watts power draw, but they would say otherwise if they all had actually used a 4090. Nvidia's 40-series GPUs are impressively efficient. With the framerate capped at 60 FPS, my 4090 can run GTA 4 using only 35 watts of power. That means it's technically running the game at idle. When I swapped out my 3090 for a 4090, it actually lowered my system's temperatures by a couple degrees. The 4090 uses about 100 watts less than the 3090 in Cyberpunk 2077. That's with max graphics settings and Psycho Ray-Tracing settings. DLSS 3.0's Frame Generation also completely removes all framerate drops that I used to get in busy market areas. I have most games locked at 140 FPS due to my 144hz monitor and G-Sync. In Cyberpunk, I went from 60-90 FPS to completely maxed out at 140 FPS without any framerate drops. Ultimately, it's still not worth paying the premium for an Nvidia GPU over an AMD unless you really want to use ray-tracing and DLSS. Though if you also have money to burn, I definitely recommend an RTX 4080 or 4090 over a 7900 XTX. That's very interesting! The crazy power draw of 450W I kept reading about rally scared me. Electricity is REALLY expensive in Europe now and one of the reasons people will prefer a 4070 over an AMD card because of the lower power draw. For CPUs it's the other way round, I think. If I keep my old monitor I'll never see more than 60fps anyway. So then I wouldn't even have to undervolt the card, right? Vsync will ensure the card is bored, lol. Then again if I keep the monitor 4090 is complete overkill at 1440p. There are very few 4080 deals currently. Gah, this is driving me crazy!

"There were other errors in the stress test but they can be ignored probably. Repeated CPU heat errors at 100 degrees. Afaik those temps for stress tests are normal, right?" Actual answer: depends on the test, but yeah at 100C it'll throttle down GHz's. If the stress test was using cpu 100% for long time, many of the lesser aircoolers will not keep up with it and the CPU throttles, meaning drops frequency down to keep it running. There are only few of aircoolers keeping up with the high end intel CPU's and one of them is the top end Noctua. Even those cannot keep up if the enviroment where machine is, is hot. 360 or 420 aio liquid coolers work the best but are not the most silent usually if this is something one wants (I do). Anyway, usually during gaming you dont see this happen, or at least I at work when profiling around hundred games a year, dont see this much in actual gaming situation. It is usually just a short time fex. after loading a level it needs to be decompressed - this is the time usually CPU is at 100%. Some games might use a lot of CPU but I have not seen constant 100% usage much outside bugs happening. On audio side, the 100% load is almost never - well I could say never - achieved. Now on 3D rendering, not modeling, 100% can be achieved. A good and used test is the Cinebench R23 Single and Multicore render tests. Also Blender is used for these sometimes. I am going with the trusty Noctua with i7-13700K

I use a 4090 at 1440p currently. Is it overkill? Most of the time, yes. With 2.25x DLDSR though? Not really. In a a few years the 4090 will be called a "1440p" card anyway.
You can still undervolt, power limit or both.

Yup, I plan on building a whole new PC in about two years. Hopefully with a Ryzen Zen 5 CPU (9950X3D?), RTX 5090, and some PCIe Gen5 SSDs to fully take advantage of PCIe 5.0. Atemporal Vanguardian-Debugger At this rate, I'll probably finish my next build before you do.

Haha, I also use my 4090 on a 1440p monitor. I think it's overkill especially with my current CPU. Honestly, I'd get a 4080 instead if the 4080 weren't so overpriced. When I bought my 4090 for $1600, the 4080 were being sold for $1200. The 4090 offers up to 40% better performance for just $400 more. So naturally I went with the 4090 instead.

RAM all have lifetime warranty. If it's already past the return period, you need to fill up an RMA form and return the defective RAM to the manufacturer. There's no need to buy another kit of RAM. I chatted with Amazon customer support and asked for a refund. I thought that's easier than going through the manufacturer. I can still buy the same RAM again through Amazon, or buy a different kit.

So ram chip and not bad ram slot on the motherboard? Did you try the good one in the other ram slots and make sure of no errors? Should make sure its not the motherboard. Whoops I am sorry the Tech guy probably did that. Though if he didn't be sure you do that first -it will save you money. I know that would be a rarity but what good will another RAM chip do if the RAM slot is actually bad. Which Model was your RAM chips again? That said Kingston is a good brand. Hi Kappa. Corsairs are good sticks. Yes that is a good idea to use only a single module of RAM for a time (maybe a week or 10 days) then introduce a second (and run that for another week or so) and so on....(and a 3rd and 4th if you have them and so on). That way if you limit the modules in a given period of time you will be able to tell which one is defective or causing other problems, and if that is the case, you can send even a single RAM module back to the manufacturer and if it is under warranty, they will replace it. Also, if you're running Windows 10 Pro (and I'm sure Windows 11 has this as well) go to the Search bar (wherever it is in Windows 11....the middle-right side of the Task Bar, is it?) and type in "Windows Memory Diagnostic" (this is a smiliar tool to MemTest86/MemTest64 but not as intensive) but it will tell you in any way if a RAM Module is causing any problems. And if you want a more intensive test....there's Memtest64 or Memtest86 (64 or 32 biy versions). On my old system, the X99 Phoenix SLI/Intel 6850K set-up...I was using GSKILL Ripjaws4 and I had a slew of RAM problems so I took all my RAM out and replaced it a stick at a time, first trying each of them singlely, then in different combinations with each other as pairs, then three, then all four.....and it didn't take my long to find the one module that was defective so I sent it back to GSKILL and within three days they sent me a brand new stick and it worked great after that. And I think that is the policy of most RAM companies these days, so if you should happen to find that it is a RAM module that is causing all your issues, they are pretty easy to replace without worry. As your your Fans....I can't speak to the Thermals of the 13 series CPU as I don't own one, but they can't be any worse than the 10 series which I have, and I've been told the 10 series runs quite hot (upwards of 90 in some instances)....But unless I am running a FULL System Scan with my AV suite and I see the temps bounce near 70C for just a split second (64,62,68, 70, 61, 58, 69,70, 52 etc etc) and then it cools right down to idle at 28 to 30 C when finished. Even under intense gaming sessions in Summer heat, I barely hit 45C. Having said that, what Cooler are you using? I've always had amazing XP with Corsair but there are several on the market that give exceptional cooling performance. Are you a Liquid-Cool person or of the Air Cooled crowd? Either is fine, I suppose, but I tend to lean towards AIOs/CLCs (All In One/Closed Loop Coolers) as I think they give over all better performance. Either way, you can try as your guy suggested and adjust the fan curve in your software suite. All that will do is raise or lower then output of the fans based on the temperature inside your case. For exmaple, they may be set by default to spin up if the temperature of the CPU or case reaches 45C. But you can adjust that either way +/- if you want them to be active at a different rate of temperature. HOW that is done exactly depends on the software you are using, but you just manually adjust the curve +/-.

Most of the impressive Skyrim modding videos I see are with a 4090. People always do those with the most capable cards because modding will make ANY GPU cry. Question is: do I really want to spend so much money on modding the game as pretty as that with added ray tracing and whatnot? Skyrim isn't even my favorite game, lol.
The 4080 prices are currently 30% cheaper than the 4090 for I think 20% slower performance? That doesn't sound so bad anymore. 16GB are probably fine?
Now you guys have me worried about the bus being less than on my 1080Ti. Does that really matter at all? I have no idea about these things. Totally out of my depths here.
My reasoning is that I'd like to keep the card for 6 years or so without having to lower the settings much (and enjoy RT don't he admittely few AAA games I play). I have been able to do that with the 1080Ti, caveat not always at 60fps but I don't care about that. Amazing card. I'd like to repeat that if possible. Only then would I be willing to pay that high a price. Maybe.

Yes I try to keep my systems for minimum 5 years...push 10 if I can. The longer I can get out of any system or part without problems or needing replacements the better. And if the games I play arent showing any degredation in how they perform...all the better.
I only rebuild if absolutely necessary.

You shouldn't compare the memory bus speed between different generations of GPUs (GTX 1080 Ti vs RTX 4080) or completely different architectures (AMD vs Nvidia). The memory types and speeds are different. It's apples and oranges or marketing BS.

So here is my biased take: The difference between a 4080 and 4090 is more like 30% at 4k. Probably closer to 20% at 1440p. However if you keep the 1440p monitor and want the best image possible, you should use 2.25x DLDSR. And that will require the card to render at 4k. More power never hurts in this situation.
