Also good case BTW -I got the Thor V2 Black Edition myself for the system I hope to get done when the rainy season ends and I can finally seal the leaking walls here in the next few months. No. 4790K is no where as demanding as 13th Gen. When you say former -you don't mean the one who built this system? The 13000k isn't got the slim top I hope? Not sure if its you or dazk that I told about the Peerless Assassin. That former tech gu... no. "Tech wanna be" -he doesn't deserver tech guy status if he thinks a slim top is better than D14/15.... Still since you didn't build it you may want to make sure the fans in the system are even running or not in backwards. The old guy moved away. He didn't know a thing about gaming, no. He worked for the current one though. Or rather they both worked for a friend of my mom's at the timewho retired. In any case I bought the Peerless Assassin on your recommendation. And as I said, people with the same CPU/cooler combo are having way lower temps. So he must have fucked up there. Btw ran the game with the side panels off and same thing. Went up to 97,5C eventually before I quit the game. A little longer and the game would surely have crashed again. So 30-60min intervals seems to be the longest I can go on a hot day before it overheats. Bracket arrival for pushed back to Tuesday. So I won't get it fixed before Wednesday earliest if he's even got time this week. Next week I'm away for 2 weeks on a hiking trip. I'll report back once I have news. Thanks again for your input! Thank goodness. Doesn't need to be in tech if he doesn't know the essentials. Hope your hike is a success.

I've been playing Baldur's Gate 3 for the past couple days and it has been marvelous. Between Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty and Starfield, September is going to be a great month.

So... Fractal Design Define 7 XL IS REALLY HUGE AND HEAVY. I almost broke my lower back lifting it, dammit. There it sits, I cannot start operating on it yet. Have to wait until next week when I'm back from north. Then its super intensive installing. I now have Win 11 Pro, I'll use GPO's to disable Defender and Windows Update. Before that I have to make sure the builders updated BIOS and then use rufus or NTLite (or similar) to make Win11Pro installation image for USB stick. Before installing though, I have to disable licenses of all my pro audio software on the old machine, download the installation packages of latest versions and... OH MY ITS SO MUCH WORK! Sorry for rant, I'm just preparing here. I calculated from my VST directory I have around 100 installation packages to run...

Sorry for rant, I'm just preparing here. I calculated from my VST directory I have around 100 installation packages to run... I know this pain well. I as well customize my OS. So much so that I even have to do regedits and power shell edits. A process that can take hours and tweaking the system after that. All in all by the time I am usually done start to finish is 12 to 24 hours after starting. Removing Bing, Cortana, and Edge are a must and I am glad I now know where they are in Windows 10. I don't dare plan to use Windows 11 on the new build -maybe it will be required I hope not or that 12 to 24 may turn into 48... I don't dare want to imagine. As to Windows 11 Update I don't know if this will help but you can use this to block the updates in 10 supposedly it works with 11 but have not tested it. www.sordum.org/9470/windows-update-blocker-v1-8/As to the bloated nature of Windows 11 I also used the following since it did help to alleviate me of bloatware that for some reason would not uninstall... Maybe because I removed its registry entries before trying to uninstall it. Disabling licenses is a pain but a must if you going to be using them elsewhere. Though I still prefer freeware audio programs but those are so old that most companies wouldn't care or like the company that made my audio programs which no longer exist or not in the form they were then.

So I got the following way back when building phase was starting... What you think about this out of stock case: That case looks very familiar! Is it a (modified) HAF X from CoolerMaster? The HAF X and its smaller sibling the HAF 932 look very similar to that case. (I had the HAF X and even today, I think it is a great case. For the time, I would say it was as good as my current H500M in terms of cooling performance and working room. The H500M is huge inside, very nice to work on/work with). One case that I had that had great cooling and expandability for its time, the first case I ever bought with my own money.....the ANTEC 1200. The only thing I didn't like about it was how tight it was inside. Not very easy to work on. Once I switched over to the HAF X, I noticed how small the 1200 was inside. Aside from the ANTEC 1200....I've been an exclusive CoolerMaster customer since...... I don't know when, whenever the HAF X came out.

The case is the Rosewill Thor V2. Currently its out of stock everywhere. Though I think its actually a discontinued case line. Shame since its the best thing I found that with elbow grease can have fans in the bottom, front, top and side. Now sure its heavy too but you know me: I like to lay computers flat so fans on the side become the top and are a must to accelerate CPU cooling while not using water. Ironic due to the flooding we are now getting here... snow can't come fast enough to allow me to take care of the leaks so I get the new system built. The Cooler Master cases are not nearly as big as this I believe. Probably stopping short of the top of the side X vent of the THOR V2. That being said I still don't understand the popular opinion of glass side panels -since all they do is hurt performance. Maybe its just me but efficiency in performance matters more than looking nice. Not to say the Cooler Master cases don't do a good job for their intended purpose but in my opinion anything with glass will loose some performance. Maybe I should just follow Jayz example and make it a testbench system but that kind of defeats the purpose of keeping dust out... or just go water cooling... NO! NEVER! That is why this old setup -yes still that AMD 8370 FX and Noctua D-14 cools so well: CPU sits around 20C*idle and if pushed can reach about 45*C in say Cinebench but no matter what it never goes over that and the GPU sits around 30C* Idle and again if using Metro Exodus can approach 60C*. Though its probably more along the lines of combining air cooling methods. I use a Push, Pull, Pull on the D14 -yes I have a fan zip tied to the back of the D14 making it a 3 fan cooler. All three fans pulling to the exit fan. However it doesn't stop there for I also have a fan on top of the D14 blowing air down into it. The GPU fans died long time back so put 2 120 Noctua 12x25 or whatever they are called... the slider spidery fans they make on the GPU shroud instead. If I did not do this I am sure I would have temperatures exceeding the 60*C and that is something I really never do. Longevity of components decreases the higher the temperatures go and even more so under sustained use -its basic physics. AMD and INTEL claiming otherwise is not caring about longevity and just trying to sell to the masses. In my opinion computers should last 10 to 20 years. Anything less is being inefficient. This system is nearing 8 years active I believe and still will handle any and every game I do however if I have to turn down terrain or graphics to get the game to run smooth that is fine for me with the 970. Certain programs may require some more creative or patience to get working on this older hardware but again I am not all the bells and whistles. The system that lays disassembled waiting to be built when the rain stops and snows everything is so tempting to be built but I will resist the temptations.

So, started my new machine. It started. Nice. No fans can be heard to outside, its even more silent than this old one. I noticed memory was on EXPO 1 mode, have no idea yet whats that. Disabled bluetooth, wifi, serialports etc. and saved configuration. Shut it down. I think I need to make a real plan how to go forward from this moment onwards now. The thing that complicates whole process is our latest track as it needs to be in good form before we send it to the trumpetist, so I'm basically waiting it to land on my table, and maybe after that the download/update/install/disable can start. But wait, yes I am waiting -- for the audiocard to arrive from germany. Before it is installed, no install can start anyway.

No. There is a realtek chip on the motherboard but its now disabled from BIOS too. I am waiting for RME HDSPe AiO Pro card. I seem to have hit into a place where the last card left Thomann just before I ordered Also the thing is, hardware is needed to be together before I can start to install Pace Locked audio software, basically this system checks what hardware you have and writes it as the key. If the hardware changes, the key is not compatible anymore and you'll have to re-authorize the plugins. I want to avoid this and put everything in before install starts. I do remember PC audio cards since AdLib

Hey all, my overheating issues are not fixed. So on Monday I dropped my PC and the thermal bracket off at the shop. Dude put it in. Said there was nothing wrong before with the thermal paste or cooler seating. I tested it at home and the temp spike was now 90 instead of 98. OK, thermal bracket is working. Maybe that will be enough even though it still seems way too high. Things were fine for a while. Past few days I had crashes at 90C, weird. Might be the game, I hoped. Today I had two crashes in a row at 95C. So it can still get hot enough to crash apparently. Sigh. I have no idea why. I was really hoping resetting the cooler in combination with the bracket would help. So what exactly is the issue? If somebody I talked to didn't have the exact same cooler playing this exact game at 70C I would think the cooler is not good enough. Most of the time it runs at 60-70C but these spikes make it crash, it seems. I told my PC guy that it's recommended to undervolt the CPU to get the temps under control. He said that would void my warranty and he wouldn't recommend it. Said maybe go water cooling. Well, shit. If my system is unstable what else can I do but undervolt?? Really don't want to spend even more money on water cooling. I heard the pumps need to be replaced every 3 years or so. Yikes. What would you guys do? I'm so tired of this crap. Other people are running this CPU just fine. It's not even hot today. 22C in my room. I don't get it.

So what exactly is the issue? I'm sorry, but I don't have a clue. Said maybe go water cooling. That's good advice. I heard the pumps need to be replaced every 3 years or so. EK D5 pumps have a MTBF of 5,5 years, but YMMV of course. That said, it would require going all in, and building a custom loop. My two cents? I would undervolt first. Get someone capable to do it, so you won't run into problems,

Is undervolting too complicated then to do it myself? It's not complicated, in fact, I'm sure there are several videos on YT that explain how it's done. I just don't remember how well-versed you are in all things BIOS. Some pointers: 1. Learn the basics, understand what you trying to achieve. 2. Find out what can go wrong, and what to do if something does go awry. 3. Check what kind of results to expect from your motherboard specifically. I can probably answer some questions next weekend, but I'm most likely busy on weekdays.

It can be a bit more complicate for the very reasons you mention and doing the research per motherboard model can get a bit tedious. Especially if there is not much been done on that model of the motherboard in the underclocking field. Though I do have two ways Kappa Neko may be able to acheive the underclock before having to do the research. That said I am sorry to hear that your busy. Yet I believe most are too.
