I've watched a few seasons but I'm behind. I think it was the first season where it was obvious. One of the things I remember was that some ancient beings created gates to other places. There's more but this is what stands out in my head right now.

When you realize how much Mass Effect and Babylon 5 have in common: Yea, I first watched B5 in 2008, just before playing ME1 for the first time (never got around to before). It really does feel a bit like "Citadel - the tv show".  A shame they didn't do the season 5 intro, That one ha the best music IMO. So epic! 
I don't see as many parallels with The Expanse. It's mostly humans only, the tech is way more grounded and IMO it has a very different vibe. But that's just me.
