Just notice that in the beginning of the new teaser on the upcomings Mass Effect there is a sound in 0:04 to 0:07 that is from Eden Prime From Ashes, maybe it is pointing to something towards the protheans? Can be heard in 8:40 in this video.

The middle two parts (or one im not sure, regardless its after the Eden Prime part but before the Horizon part) is where I'm confused. It sounds familiar...almost like an Andromeda style theme. But I'm not positive. UPDATE Yes, part of that is from Andromeda: From 0:29 Afterwards it switches to Horizon
The part from 0:06 to 0:10 I do not recognize though off the top of my head.

How is it not addressed with a confirmed 600 year jump in time and N7 simply being BioWare's Mass Effect marketing tool? Anyone who thinks that Shep is returning, should think again. No one should expect a return of Shepard. If it happens and they really play the "he/she was 600 years in a cryo pod"-card, that would be the surprise, not that we will play a different character. Most people outside this forum won't appreciate a 600 year jump in time. They'll take the trailer at face value, they're not sitting their decoding the minutiae like we are. Equally, in my experience most people outside of this forum equate N7 = Shepard = Mass Effect. That was obvious when MEA was being trailed, and since then you've had yet more people playing through the OT so that belief is probably ingrained in a whole new gaming generation. I'm not sure why this is news, and BW are well aware of what expectations they set running when they tease this stuff. The bottom line is that in the short term it's in their interest to keep it vague enough so as to keep everyone interested. That's great, but at some point down the line when the masses realize what's going on then it'll be the same reaction that MEA got. I'd have thought they'd want to avoid a repeat of that, but hey-ho perhaps not. Almost all Mass Effect players I know IRL, I either know or can feel certain, associate N7 with Shepard. They don't watch videos like any 'signing off'. They don't look at all the media. They don't go on discussion boards or Reddit about all this. They associate symbols with characters and they'd still be going N7 is Shepard. They have a copy of ME2 and ME3 or whatever box, and its all N7 and Shepard. They're not going to look even moderately deep into it, they're rarely going to look at the story context. This is not me saying Shepard must return because of this. It is not me saying they'll be alive, nor playable. I'm just saying we have a certain kind of viewpoint that most gamers familiar with Mass Effect (NOT Mass Effect's details) think when they see an N7 emphasis. But Andromeda. Yes, Andromeda. I had to field disappointment from others that it ended up this Ryder Daddy instead of Shepard. MEA did not have the best reception. Its best not to consider it a good thing that MEA pushed N7 alongside AI in early vague marketing and it ended up having about 1% to do with Shepard. MEA is a height of 'mismanaged expectations' that I'd hope they learned from. I personally think the figure in this tease is either a new protagonist or antagonist, and isn't Shepard. But if after all this nodding towards Shepard (already much more and far more obvious then for MEA) results in literally no form of appearance (whatever context), yeah that's asking for blowback. I don't know the degree to which is optimal in relation to how they're currently communicating, okay, but if they're not going to do Shepard at all, just shut up about them entirely. Because yes, to the NORMIE, N7 is Commander Shepard fighting the Collectors/Reapers. And not enough paid attention to N7ness of MEA for that to yet change.
These are exactly the same reactions I get. Out of the circle of people I talk to, I'd say about 85% are new to Mass Effect from MELE, and only associate N7 with Shepard. A couple of them were, in their own words, "thrown for a loop" when the new N7 was Alec, and further disappointed when he dies on Habitat 7. One started Andromeda, and then when she heard Shepard wasn't in it, she stopped playing, only completing part of Habitat 7 before just being done.
To anyone outside of this forum (even among some of the diehards), the belief is that this N7 imagery means Shepard is returning. And most can't be convinced otherwise, despite being told to "temper expectations" or "remember Andromeda?" as responses. I'm not saying they need to come out tomorrow and address this one way or the other, but if by the end of 2024/start of 2025 they haven't said anything, BioWare is in trouble the longer they let this go. And then, you'll just have another repeat of the endings of ME 3 and Andromeda's reception all over again, with the majority of the fan base being blamed, and critics asking why it wasn't addressed sooner in development.

What I get from the short trailer and the knowledge we had before: 1) The game is set in the Andromeda timeline. We start in or after year 2819. 2) Both galaxies will be involved (likely via Mass relays, because the Milky Way species had 600 more years to figure the technology out). 3) We are playing/starting from the Milky Way point of view (that's why Liara is prominentlyin the 2020 trailer and the 2022 distress call), which basically is confirmed now with more details regarding that call/us being at the receiving end in the MW. 4) We (likely) get a new human protagonist, which should or could be the N7 shown in the short vid. Because of the timeline no one should expect Shepard to be alive. If anyone does, it's on them. I don't think they will play the "but he/she was 600 years in Cryo"-card and I doubt they will declare Shepard immortal after a destroy ending - even if they choose it as starting point for this new adventure, which I'm not sure of. Another general note: I don't think, that the N7 is a bad guy. Some people (maybe the Andromeda Initiative) probably are just doing something not everyone in the Galaxy is agreeing to - like, let's say opening/planning a Mass Relay to unknown space (Andromeda) which was forbidden before the Reaper war if I remember correctly. BioWare has a history talking human this and human that (like in ME3 where it was "retake Earth" or in Andromeda where it was "a new Human home has to be found") when it's actually a multi species concern, so I wouldn't read too much into the "human defiance" stuff. This is what i took from it aswell.

The possibility of this being liara is still possible. There are many things that might confirm this. Also the character seems to be speaking with that krogan. The little head movement in the end before turning to walk outside is like telling something.
We might see this teaser but expanded at tga as many have said that it seems too short and it might be expanded upon, but we'll see about that.

You are making BW seem so stupid that I suddenly got this huge fear that it IS indeed Shepard because surely they wouldn't repeat their mistake from the Andromeda marketing... I mean, if it is Shepard who was in cryo for centuries and healed from terrible injuries during it / rebuilt with Cerberus methods, the franchise is going to be a joke. I would think BW is not stupid enough to bring Shepard back but then, not saying straight up at this point that Shep won't be back seems pretty stupid too, after reading your take on it.

The way the lines distort, blur, and twist off the character almost feel like they are being pulled into some kind of vortex. Maybe a reference to how the galaxies are going to be brought together through space (and time?).

I've been saying since the beginning that it's going to be a new protagonist, and honestly, that's probably for the best. As much as I love Shep, their story is done. And Ryder was polarizing, to put it mildly, whether you liked them or not (I didn't mind Ryder, but felt underwhelmed and just rather "meh" by them). Hudson and Walters were that stupid, I felt, giving us the radioactive debacle that was ME 3's endings. More so Hudson than Mac, because IIRC, Walters has stated they could have done things better (I'm positive he's said that on Twitter, but I could be wrong), whereas Hudson just kept doubling down.
We went through this before, because when Andromeda was announced, there were videos on YouTube, discussions on other forums about how this was "the return of Shepard", articles asking if this was a return to Shepard, because they were the only one tied to being an N7 (aside from Vega, but the body shape didn't fit, so that was tossed). There was talk amongst my friends and I that were ME fans discussing if/how this was Shepard returning, due to the video (one of them had to show me the video, since I was just not really following news about the game at the time). I remained skeptical, but a couple were adamant it was Shepard returning for another ride as an apology for how ME 3 was handled. To say they were disappointed long after it was announced to be someone named Ryder would be an understatement.
I WANT to believe they've learned from this mistake, that they're NOT this stupid...but so far, evidence has pointed to the contrary. It's why I'm giving them a little over a year to announce it. If by some point in January of 2025 they don't debunk the Shepard nods, this is going to blow up in their face, and it will just destroy the already deeply fractured fan base there is. Those outside this forum will (and this is just an educated guess) just give up on Mass Effect and BioWare entirely at that point from the way they talk. Those on this forum will blame the other side of the fanbase for "believing Shepard was returning" or "not giving Ryder a chance". I've also said this game is it for BioWare and the Mass Effect series. They need a home run here, and the longer they let the idea that Shepard is returning continue to grow, the faster they're digging their own grave.
Granted, this is all still just pre-production, and there looks to be promise here. But again, they have to manage and walk a very tight line. The sooner they just come out and say, "No, it's not Shepard, but it's someone new", and giving us some idea what the character's background is, the faster most will probably get over it and be willing to give this a chance. I say "most" and not "all" because BioWare fumbled with how Shep's story ended, and some are still going to be waiting for a re-do on that. Not that it'll ever come, but you can't convince them of that, either.

In late spring/early summer 2016, Walters was asked about the ending. He said it could've been better. The video was posted on a thread on the old BSN forum.

I don't mind a new protagonist at all, but as with Ryder, they will inevitably be compared to Shepard. Whether they're N7 or not. Those are some pretty big shoes to fill. Some will outright resent any protagonist that isn't Shepard. Some would resent Shepard being brought back. I honestly don't know how BW dig themselves out of that conundrum.
The OT endings were the endings, for better of worse they are what they are. Continuing to go to extreme lengths to avoid addressing the fallout is ridiculous and far more trouble than it's worth. Just f*cking canonize something and move on. As soon as the new game drops then it's already de-canonizing the refuse ending anyway, go the whole way and ditch of the other three as well.

Chances are it's neither of them.... It could just be the lighting and the dark patch is a shadow. Who knows. All things being equal it looks more like Peebee than Liara to me, but it could easily be either, or neither. checked it again. The light hits her face and it's very visible, so I'm gonna say it's peebee. The more I look at it the less convinced I am. Her head is tilted but the dark streak is perfectly cast across the x-axis. To me that suggests lighting.

The music stuff is interesting.
To stretch things probably way too much: -Material from even the very start of the series will be drawn from, and the opposite of forgotten (Eden Prime) -Andromeda will be folded into the mix, to flesh out the experience -The latter parts of the trilogy will be made relevant in a fresh way (Horizon) -But combined, they'll all compose a new story, a fresh journey that is very reminiscent in style and substance
Or they just don't have any musical ideas yet so they mishmashed some old stuff. Whatever!

More so Hudson than Mac, because IIRC, Walters has stated they could have done things better (I'm positive he's said that on Twitter, but I could be wrong), whereas Hudson just kept doubling down. In late spring/early summer 2016, Walters was asked about the ending. He said it could've been better. The video was posted on a thread on the old BSN forum. Thank you! I knew he did, but I wasn't 100% positive.
