To be honest with you all, Mass Effect just pulls me back. It's like the first time you start getting heavy into Shotguns in Mass Effect 1 and blast a fool with Carnage. You learn just how devastating well played shotgun engineers (or other classes) can be. Stoopid Varren didn't even know what hit it! If a gun and skill are so good that it makes Batarians hide their ugly faces, then its alright by me.
There was something magical about being a Spectre and visiting all of these different worlds and moons and systems. Such beautiful skyboxes. I've been to places most people would not believe - some would "die" to have a job like mine. I've been to Red and blue binary star systems, walked on worlds that have ring sysyems that you can see from the surface - you can get lost in the beauty of this Galaxy, right until you drive into a Thresher Maw nest, or Geth trap...
While it is quite pretty, there is always danger out there in this Galaxy of ours. There are dark, Ancient secrets barely hinted at in the fossil record on a thousand different worlds. Hints of wars that raged millions of years ago that left a scarred planet as the only mute witness. All that is left of those civillizations is dust.
There was a magic to ME1. You had to look to find the hints and clues that all tie back to the main storyline - that's the bottled lightning that BioWare needs to reignite. Beauty offset by danger, dark mystery, cool aliens, the Citadel, Galactic politics (that have nothing to do with current politics and SJW grandstanding and agenda) - focus on fun!
Games used to be about just having fun.
