I WANT TO BURN THE TEMPLAR BOATS AT CRESTWOOD! YOU PROMISED!!! We also had a bunch of keeps and missions that you could complete/launch in three different versions (Power, Secrets, ... the third one?) and each one changes how the scenarios played out. It's always super disheartening during dev when you make really cool things and then you come to the bill: "to actually do this properly across the whole game it will cost $$$" and then everyone's brains explode and it gets cut. I hope it's been enough time since DAI launched that I'm allowed to spill all the tea haha I know you can't, but I'm still somewhat curious was the impact cost would have been to include such a feature. My company is currently undergoing a Kaizen event, and we're prepping for the point in which we'll actually need to come up with a cost-estimate fairly soon. If it's not too much to ask, is DA4 receiving the same budget as Inquisition (for it's current single-player focused design), or it is different this time around? I'm also curious if working from home has led to additional funds being found for additional projects in the game.

I wonder what they mean by giving characters "more personality than they ever had" Does this mean more dialogue and/or "distinct" personality?

Might also mean more performance capture... Then I looked again at the role of the person speaking and I'm inclined to agree with this. Thinking back to the Behind the Scenes video, they showed how they were working on Solas' facial expressions and it seem to go further than they had previously. Clearly, they are doing this for more than just Solas.

Maybe I'm showing my age but I just don't understand some peoples' obsession with seeing every pupil dilation, every individual blade of grass blowing in the wind, and every gleam of light on the water. As long as I can play the game, understand who's who and what's going on, they can make it the PS1 for all I care.

They should rather invest the money in story and characters

I have a 10 year old computer, and have been playing older games.
For me, DA2, Pillars of Eternity (both games) and Divinity Original Sin (both games) were less than I want for graphics.
DAO is the minimum desirable graphics for me.

They should rather invest the money in story and characters DAO is the minimum desirable graphics for me. Some years back there was a game called Arcanum that I really enjoyed. It didn't get high ratings because the graphics weren't that good, definitely when compared with games being issued by Bioware like Baldurs Gate and Planescape Torment, but the story, setting and characters were interesting. It had an interesting premise in that instead of being a medieval type setting they opted for a later industrial revolution period, with air ships and locomotives for travel over long distance but you could not use these if you had too much magic because you would cause them to malfunction and crash. The same was true of weapons; the guns might explode in your face so magic users had to stick to older type weapons. I really enjoyed that game and because it was a stand alone they were able to have considerable variation of outcomes at the end. There were also some very interesting characters we could encounter and have as companions, plus an antagonist who had depth to him and was not simply a cackling villain. I've often wondered why someone hasn't picked up on the copyright for that game and remade it with modern graphics because I'm sure it would be popular.

I'm not to broken up on animations and facial animations in general. I tend to agree as long as the game is fun and it works but obviously as the standards continue to increase industry wide if they can pull it off without too much sacrifice in other areas...then they should do so to. And plus I think if this is an indication of where the industry is going gamers are going to start expecting that because we can be a fickle bunch.
