The Game Awards 2023 - Chat Thread

Think I'd prefer being center stage in a musical number.

Edit: Personally I think it was pretty obvious they'd get it, but can see how it might not be obvious for them.

I'll probably wait for the Definitive Edition. I want them to resolve as many bugs as possible before I start playing.

Standout trailers for me:

Arknights: Enfield, gacha curiosity

Exodus looks more interesting when I actually looked it up, trailer wasn’t so hot. I’ll have to see how much RPG is in there beyond the action trailer.

Visions of Mana really surprised me. First, that a new Mana game is even happening, but I learned that yesterday in a leak. However, I partially assumed ‘Visions’ implied something F2P gacha like Echos of Mana, so I had a smile on when watching this trailer!

Black Myth: Wukong continues to look beautiful.

Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden seems progressively better with each viewing.

FFVII: Rebirth, watching its actual trailer on Youtube, looks like potential GOTY material for me, except it won’t, because I’m going for PC.

Honkai: Star Rail, which I play daily, annoyed me with teasing that it might be a trailer for 2.0 with more proper new footage behind it, then they… basically didn’t do that. These MYH TGA ads are very pointless feeling. Zenless Zone Zero is whatever, I’ll play it and see how I want to keep going, which worked out for me with Star Rail.

Light No Fire made me think that if its a success and further develops its ‘world’ tech and design, No Man’s Sky still might continue with ported updates based on LNF work, ha. The forever game!

Lego Fortnite, well, it managed to pull me in a little, which was surprising. Downloading now. Also The Finals but I have no faith I'll continue that one.

Exoborne was whatever... but I’ll track it because it has the studio behind the Bloodhunt I occasionally played.

I didn’t get the FFIX remake announcement I wanted, but I’ll take the Visions of Mana.

My personal favorites of the award winners (either I've played it, watched a lot of it played and I anticipate playing, or I'm just really attached to the idea of playing it):

-Baldur's Gate 3, EXPANSION ANNOUNCEMENT NOW PLEASE
-Alan Wake 2, enjoyed the first one playing with my ex
-Sea of Stars, I'm not super enthused by but I'll definitely get around to it
-FFVII Rebirth (anticipation), my theoryhead is bursting


And to add nominees that didn't win anything:
-Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, on my to-do for my next gaming PC (potentially desktop)
-Hi-Fi Rush, respect, simple
-Dead Space Remake, also respect, I'm more glad they made it than I'm bothered at another remake
-Venba, I liked the demo
-Genshin Impact, I still log in!
-Final Fantasy IX, intending to actually play through it all sometime..
-Honkai: Star Rail, active daily player, I'm all but whale/metagamer level at it, keeping up with all content
-FFVII Ever Crisis, ok haha, its actually a poor game, but I'm playing it now, so lets count it
-Remnant 2, still need to finish the first one but I'm optimistic about trying this one

Is it me or the majority of games (PC specifically) were either Souls-like or survival themed?

Easier on my wallet of course, but damn, what's with this trend! Hopefully BG3 brings some more RPGs on the table in the coming years.

Literally the only reveal I got interested in was Exodus.

Seems like an earnest guy. Felt bad he got kinda pushed off the stage. Glad at least they gave it to him and not Idris Elba, who probably wouldn't give a shit.
This is what happened to me when Clockwork Revolution was announced earlier this year. "Oh, a shooter with a Bioshock/Dishonored type of aesthetic, whatever." Then I learned it's an RPG by inXile and read the website and became a lot more interested.

Basically, I get the vibe AAA/AA RPG studios gotta present their games as generic action titles for broader appeal, but that isn't necessarily representative.

I was hoping and praying on Greedfall 2 because the announcement trailer was from the TGAs in 2021 and the release day is supposedly still 2024. Sad it didn't show up.

Otherwise this whole show felt very divided between weeb games and gross monster killing games/survival stuff. I don't think I saw any RPGs I would be interested in.
