Russell's Teapot, dear boy. With a lack of observable evidence for what happened, we have no evidence to say that it wasn't useful for anything either. We are left with a value judgement; I choose to believe that Cerberus' actions were beneficial in the long-term, though off-screen and unseen. You know that the main reason that a lot of Josef Mengele's research was destroyed after the war, wasn't just because it was horrific experimentation on countless innocent people, but that the experiments themselves often involved questionable or outright bad science and had no practical purpose or application beyond wanton cruelty. What practical purpose does allowing an entire team to be killed by Thresher Maws have? What does forcibly injecting people with Thresher Maw venom teach them beyond how to subject someone to intense physical agony that nearly kills them? What purpose did having the kids in Pragia fight each other to death achieve in their pursuit of the ultimate biotic? Let's not kid ourselves, there are clear signs that Cerberus has done insanely unethical things for zero practical or beneficial reasons to anyone. As I recall chap, Mengele's reseach was never destroyed so much as it was 'sealed'. And by that, I mean that it was partially taken by the Air Force and used to develop pressure chambers for testing the effects of high altitude and low air pressure on pilots. Also, look at Unit 731; they did stuff that would have made Mengele cringe, and they got a full pardon from the US military to apply their work in the US (albeit with government oversight). The practical purpose of thresher maws; creating a control for how to measure military readiness and reaction to a thresher attack, as well as how a thresher reacts in various circumstances, such as how it stalks prey, and whether or not it could be used a practical weapon against hostile forces. The practical purpose of injecting people with Thresher Maw venom; developing an understanding of how Thresher venom affects human physiology (short and long-term) and what, if any, possible anti-venom could be gleaned, how long it would take for the venom to become lethal, etc. The practical purpose of making the kids on Pragia fight each other; to test the development levels of Jack with other control subjects, and how to gauge the growth of her abilities (and thus the research). There could also have been the study to see how repeatable Jack's powers were in other subjects, which would obviously be used in a test against her own powers. Sure, it's cruel, and there are likely more efficient ways to test such measures, but they got the job done. And I did highlight potential practical benefits. If those were the goals of the experiments (we have no evidence to state what is or isn't the case), Cerberus accomplished them; you're right to call them inefficient, but wrong to say they're ineffective. Supposition accounted for, of course.

So how did people here feel about the N7 day trailer ? I was mostly fine with it because I wasn't expecting much more. I liked the reason why humanity is in a kind of desperate situation, but I'd have preferred to not see our character fall from what it seems like the atmosphere to the ground. We need more info about the story, characters and gameplay before I can form an opinion though. The graphics look better then what I was expecting.

Yup I think so too. If I remember correctly the AI project launches after ME2 but before ME3, so I'm still unrealistically hoping for a cut scene/codex entry/dialogue that has her involved with assisting the AI project in some form, even if she obviously is not on board to Andromeda and she obviously hasn't died at the suicide mission

I think Miranda would be jealous of not going on the Ark Initiative. Not so sure i agree that she would be jealous about not going. Maybe jealous not to have been involved in project design.

Not so sure i agree that she would be jealous about not going. Maybe jealous not to have been involved in project design. Depends on how you'd get her to feel about it. If you avoid the "ark as running away from the Reapers" angle, the challenge and thrill of discovery should be enough I think. Though I suppose it would also depend on whether Oriana would go as well. I can't see her leaving her sister behind.

I think Miranda would be jealous of not going on the Ark Initiative. I think that jealousy would disappear as time wears on and the Reapers are defeated (or win, if that fancies you.) The new opportunities for technological growth, from any of the endings, and continued advancement for humanity would preoccupy her time, as would starting a life with Shepard if you romance her as I do. Let's just hope that doing the latter wouldn't involve her going through an 'Android 18' style change where she goes from awesome and capable operative/scientist/spy to mom and housewife. Fanfiction and head canon only get you so far.

Here's one of my favorite drawings of Miranda I can immediately find, because it also has one of the most important things in her life: Also, while I'm sure most people here prefer Miranda with Shepard, I wonder if there are any fans of this popular pairing for her...

Yeah, definitely not my cup of tea either. If I had to have Miranda do some "girl time" with someone (not that I'd be as reluctant about it as I made that sound) there are plenty of better choices. Kasumi, Kelly, Samantha, any asari (well, except Morinth obviously), Gianna Parsini, hell even Ashley, if she's drunk enough. And to be clear, I don't "ship" these, I just wouldn't automatically hate them if I saw them.
Besides, no offense to the artist, but he really made Miranda frumpy in that shot. Her torso looks amorphous and she has no neck. Did she let herself go, or is bias at work here?

Eh, it's not the best art I've seen of either, I just remember chuckling a bit at the shirt Miranda was wearing. I don't know, I just think it's a ship with legs -- both were tested on and genetically manipulated from birth for something against their will, but those experiences shaped them to be different people. They have a really great dynamic together whether as frienemies or as "something more." Speaking of which, here's a funny one featuring both of them in a situation we're a little more used to in the game: And a light parody of Miranda's love scene in ME2:

I personally don't see much of a dynamic at all between either Jack or Miranda. I don't think they're the type to ever really like or respect each other much.
Of course, Jack doesn't live long in my timeline of the games.

Of course, Jack doesn't live long in my timeline of the games. Well, the game itself says otherwise, ME3, at least. If you haven't yet, you should try going through Grissom Academy and doing the stuff with Jack and then bring her to the party in Citadel, the two have some AMAZING interactions there.

I've had enough of ME3's version of grim-dark to last a lifetime. As far as the characters go I'd much rather have wacky space adventures than angst over saving the galaxy. Every game, I feel the same thing. In ME2 I don't really care about the Collectors anymore, I just want to fly around with my crew and do swashbuckling space stuff. ME1 now that I'm replaying it, is similar. Stopping Saren feels in character but after that I just want to be a legendary but still grounded operative flying around with my badass crew doing more missions no one else can, instead of dying for the galaxy's sins and becoming Space Jesus in teh sequel. By ME3 I've given up because I can't even pretend to do my own thing anymore. I can appreciate the Reaper plot if I sit back and just observe a story. It's not great but it's decent. But in terms of getting into the character's head, saving the galaxy is the last thing I want to worry about. I mean I can see how my Shepard fits into the larger story and for the most part it works. I just don't want to be locked to it as much.

Well, that's definitely the plus side of what I'm hearing about Andromeda -- the tone will be lighter and the plot is more focused on exploration than saving the galaxy. In fact, the point of the game IS to explore.

Why would Miranda be staring at the sky at some random post - Destroy and isolated location? Because that's where she and Shepard eventually SETTLED In at some point of their lives.
That's canon - it's obvious. Almost five years later the secret is out. Don't argue back or I will fight you. Makes perfect sense. 10/10. Closure found.
I'm out. Let me die in peace.

And yeah, I see what you mean. Would make even more sense for a control ending. I mean, for starters, why would Miranda be that far away from any main city hub on Earth? I'm assuming it's Earth. The way I see it, she would find something to work on. So, for destroy, it could only mean she settled down or is waiting for someone to come back. I'm not trying to beat a dead horse, I just had this realization out of the nowhere about this particular slide after beating the game last night. That slide in control would just make everything worse D:

I still don't understand what you guys are saying. Is this some sort of slide in the Extended Cut? I thought the only one with Miranda is her in some sort of board meeting or something.
