Good morning folks! Just finished watching the gameplay video, first thoughts: -new demon design is interesting, appears to be to create a uniformity in their design. I easily recognized pride and despair, but not those first ones who showed up, having seen the others now - maybe they were rage? - That was a LOT of auto dialogue, some of it the usual 'convey important information in personaility neutral ways', but some of it in situations where it really feels like there should of been a dialogue option. Like whether or not you should try to help a woman whose already been caught by the magic police or be more pragmatic and get to the world ending elf faster? And auto dialogue for look at that pillar we could knock over, sure, but no option to choose how you convince the others of the plan? just a long sequence of autodialogue? I did not like that. - the ability wheel only has three powers per character? There's like so much more space on those bars for more slots, do you get more slots later? Why only three companions if there's going to be a empty top line that the third companions abilities could be on? Is it going to be used for something else? Extending Rook's power bar? For temporary 3rd companions like that one leak suggested? - also looks like the wheel is only used for activating abilities, no option to just tell your companions to attack an enemy or hold or follow... seems inferior to the trilogy tactics screen, at least the pc version. - graphics look great - Neve is awesome - Interrupting Solas ritual but ending up releasing two of the Evanuris ourselves is hilarious! Oooh their outlines looks so creepy So overall feeling good about how it looks and the main story, ambivalent and confused about combat, and not happy about Rooks autodialogue. Now I'm sure I have alot of other news to catch up on. Hopefully including some answers to some of my questions. Yeah the amount of auto-dialogue and...well actually the whole thing gave me ME3 vibes, maybe DA2 at times Edit: But also I wouldn't be surprised if they cut out some dialogue options and just showed the dialogue so it kept a steady flow. They tend not to highlight dialogue much in these gameplay reveals.

Yeah, the Pride Demon looked off. Far from the fierce and intimidating look of previous DA titles. Hopefully there's a lore reason. The Fade inhabitants changing how they look are the easiest to explain from lore perspective, given that they don't really have a permanent shape and come from a world/dimension that is ever-changing. And trying to get rid of the Veil separating those worlds surely has to have an impact. If anything, the motif they picked for DAVe demons now is that they're basically a (glowing) nervous system/blood stream (kinda reminds me of lyrium veins...) encased in dark bones/flesh/fabric. They reminded me of the Rock Wraiths from DA2. Consider that’s where the idol was kept and Solas needs it for his ritual, wonder if it’s connected to the demon’s new form.

Varric's new hair is bugging me. Since when do blonds get dark hair when they grow old? It's a bad art decision. Raises hand. My hair went from very blond as a child, to light brown as a young man, to medium brown in middle age (then what little is left is going grey, but we don't talk about that). It's quite common for light hair to darken with age.

more stylized games definitely age better than ultra-realistic ones Genreall y DA has always had a bi tof a cartoony look t oit eve nDAI does especiall yin ho wmagic works in th egame bu tfor me that' s always been part of it's charm. Agreed. DA2 was quite stylized, and DAI too. Definitely part of the charm.

After having a few hours to watch the trailer a couple times (the day has been...tumultuous at best....) the companion trailer looks more and more like it was left over from when this game was going to be a "live service" game. I'm at least glad to see the game won't be "Fortnite-y" at least in terms of graphics, but I'm still unconvinced about a great deal of things.
The dialog wheel looks like it's from Inquisition again, which...ehhh....not sure how I feel about that. Combat looks better than it did in Inquisition, so that's a plus. Makes me think of DA2's; so that is a good step. Still not happy we don't get to directly control companions, and I hate being force to have three companions in this one. Harding looked fantastic; not to be all "doom-and-gloom". Actually, all the models did; much better than Inquisition and the god-awful Frostbite engine.
But again, I'd need to see more of the combat and actual dialog and conversations. Not just what we were given.

They reminded me of the Rock Wraiths from DA2. Consider that’s where the idol was kept and Solas needs it for his ritual, wonder if it’s connected to the demon’s new form. Now that you mention it, it does look similar to the Rock Wraith, except the one in DA2 was glowy in the torso and nowhere else. Now the Guardian in The Descent, that Roch Wraith is closer in visual, not as "branch-like" but a lot more similar.
I think the new design might have lore implication, and not just in the "Veil is thin/gone everywhere so they look less real now" sense.
Also, it should be said that we know from DAI that Fear demon take the appearance of what you fear. It defaulted to spider for all in DAI...because spiders.

If this game is truly going to a three-ability power wheel as some believe, it better have really good action and power combos. If I can play a CQC Mage detonating magical combos, I will be more likely to overlook other gripes.
Unfortunately, I have only watched the trailer once and can't remedy that until tomorrow. Still, I've had time to think and can pinpoint a couple of things that bothered me.
First, the oversized, in-your-face enemy health bars annoy me. Surely those can be made smaller. It's entirely subjective, and apologies if you strongly disagree, but think they make the game look sort of childish. I associate those goofy health bars with kids games. Since we probably get no other visual clues of how injured an enemy is, I wouldn't want to simply toggle off the health bars. I just want them to be smaller. I want to primarily watch the enemy I'm attacking, rather than their giant health bar.
Secondly, the glowing line that indicates that an enemy is targeting the protagonist with a ranged attack is too much. I've played lots of games that convey this info in different ways. If the solid line is the method they choose, that's fine. It can work. It worked well, in tandem with an audio cue, for ME games. The DAV targeting line is obnoxiously obvious, though, to the point that it detracts from the on-screen action. Give me a cue, but don't try to force my focus onto that single thing. Make the cues less intrusive. There are lots of examples of how to do this even in their own games. Mass Effect snipers are a good example, and stalkers in Horizon are another that spring to mind.
These are easy changes to implement. I hope my opinions aren't too uniquely mine. I really find these effects as presented disruptive and off-putting.
Anyway, those are two of my subjective gripes, and one hope. Give us some higher level gameplay, next! Show us some Mages!

Still, if this is the new Frostbite, then it's a welcome improvement Bear in mind that inquisition was BioWares first game with the frostbite engine. So they had a lot of learning to do to understand how it works and all that. They’ve now made 4 games with it so they’ve got a handle on how it works and should know what they want to do with it. But yeah everything looks the best it’s ever looked I think.

I wonder if you can zoom out. I hope to God. A further away camera will make the combat easier to take, my head kind of hurts from looking at it.
The combat definitely reminded me of DA2 which hopefully doesn't affect me like DA2 combat does. For some reason every hit just resonates in my head, like a psychic shock or something. It's weird. Doesn't stop me from loving DA2 though.
I really, really hope these things are just for the trailers and not in the actual game. They are so damn cheesy.
Varric's new hair is bugging me. Since when do blonds get dark hair when they grow old?
I had blond/red hair as a kid, now it's darker red and brown or even almost black if the leftovers I sometimes find in the shower can be believed. Plus, it's a good bet he's spent less time outside the last 10 years so all the sun-bleaching has grown out.

My thoughts about the gameplay video:
I wish they had shown a mage Rook in the video. I am curious to see how many spells we get to use in combat. I am glad healing spells are back. I am fine with action combat generally and am just waiting to see how spells are handled.
Graphics look a bit better than in the reveal trailer, but many of the faces still do not look good. They are too exaggerated and cartoony. I hope they can improve that.
Male Rook's voice sounds great! I hope the female voice is good as well. I am looking forward to hearing it.

After watching again, I tried listening closely to the conversation Solas and Varric were having as we head to break the scaffolding. Might have a word or two wrong, but pretty sure this is what’s said.
Varric: “Me? Take down the Dread Wolf? I’m flattered. No, I’m just going to ask you a question. So, you rebelled against the other gods which was a disaster. You imprisoned them and created the Veil, that was a disaster. So will this time work out any better? Can you tell me that?”
Solas: “I understand your hesitance, but what I’m doing now must be done. This goes past your comprehension.”
Oh, Varric. I don’t like you, but you have your moments. The snark and sass you give Solas. And Solas, as egotistical and racist as ever I see.

The combat is pretty decent. The pride demon shrieking was really annoying though, kinda high pitched. I didn't think Bioware could pull off nice fantasy melee combat though so I'm pleasantly surprised.
I saw someone on the youtube comments asking why everything is so purple but I actually like that about Bioware's games, it doesn't have a realistic colour palette. Mass Effect was very blue and I liked that also.
For the first time in forever I'm excited for a Bioware game, and for the first time in foreverx2 I'm excited for a Dragon Age game O.O

In the beginning of the demo there was the awkward scene where Rook insists they have to help random NPC woman accused of a crime by the authorities.
I wonder if this dialog only occurred because Rook had the Shadow Dragon background? Wanting to help would fit that background.
He might not say that if you chose a different background? Its not like an Antivian Crow would typically insist on helping random people.

So, you rebelled against the other gods which was a disaster. You imprisoned them and created the Veil, that was a disaster. So will this time work out any better? Can you tell me that?”
Solas: “I understand your hesitance, but what I’m doing now must be done. This goes past your comprehension.”Oh, Varric. I don’t like you, but you have your moments. The snark and sass you give Solas. And Solas, as egotistical and racist as ever I see. I was curious what they were saying but couldn't really make it out beside Varric saying "Dread Wolf" at one point. Glad that Solas seems to still be his talking down, cryptic self almost a decade later, makes it easier to justify my Solas-mancing Inquisitor to have got over his bullshit and not have any of his "woe is me, vhenan" justifications.

I'd like to point out that we still don't have 100% knowledge of his actions, or what will happen if we disrupt a world-changing ritual yet again (that'd be going fuil-circle for Inquisitor as well - starting the game by interrupting a sinister ritual and exploding everything xD) Though I think at this point we can already tell that this disruption probably unleashes at least some Evanuris on the world. So... oops? Nah Solas had "plans" remember. I forgot how much he pissed me off, it's all coming back now. Agreed, he only focuses on his plan, but never looks left or right to see, if there are disruptions or if there would be another way entirely. I talked yesterday to some hardcore Silas fans and they put the blame for freeing the Evanuris entirely on Rook, but I honestly don't see it. Rook disrupted a potential world ending ritual, that could have freed the Evanuris anyway. Silas said he know, how to deal with it, but we saw in DAI how good his first plan worked #sarcasm. So I don't have faith in him knowing what to do or not. I did like a lot about the trailer: firstly the more gritty look and the dark atmosphere. DA always was for me more dark fantasy than high fantasy and the first game showed that best. The companions - I mean Varric was great again ( and I hope, he survives) and of course Harding is my favourite from what we know about the companions ( plus dwarf and romanceable, finally). Neve seems to be interesting. I want to read Tevinter Nights and that comic with Varric and Harding before release. I didn't like the combat at all, it's too acionlike and I'm not digging it.

So within 15 hours, gameplay reveal has gained 1.6 million views. By this pace it will overtake cinematic reveal trailer, which itself is at 1.8 million views at 4th most views Dragon Age channel video, as well the most viewed Dreadwolf/Veilguard video.
Within a week or two, I can see gameplay reveal being 2nd and cinematic trailer being 3rd on Dragon Age channel, barring they release another video that get's even more popular.

Inquisition still looks great to this day.
Hell Dragon Age 2 is charming still.
Origins is... ugly.
I had a chuckle when I saw some guy on Twitter compare the look of DAO Leliana and DAVe Harding and he even had to admit in description that DAO was modded LMAO, that's so embarrassing.

I did think that but not getting a great sense of moral complexity from what we've seen from the game in that trailer, so if i had to guess it'll be forced dogooding
