John: Absolutely. So Lucanis is the stylish assassin from the Antivan Crows, you know. But, not bloodthirsty, more, as he sees assassination as a job, one that he is extremely skilled at. Over the course of the story, you learn more about him, more about his character, more about his relationship, not just within The Veilguard, but also with the Crows and with other characters in the world. And I think, it’s fascinating to see how that grows over the course of the game.

Lucy: Now Zach, you are the voice. I mean, how do you approach this? Where did you […]?

Zach: Well, when I first found out I got the role, I read Tevinter Nights, which is the book, that came out […] and you should read. And I read The Wigmaker Job, in which Lucanis is featured. I read it about three times, and after I closed the book I realized, ‘this might be the coolest guy I ever get to play’. I mean, not only is he a smooth assassin, not only is he determined - yes, he can kill you a thousand different ways, but what struck me was, his mind is as dangerous as his knives. I mean this is a guy who takes in the environment with all five senses. He’s constantly attuning himself to the kind of shifting terrain of every mission. And also, he’s kinda hilarious. I mean, if you look at his relationship with his cousin Illario, in The Wigmaker Job, they’re constantly giving each other crap. But there’s a lotta love there, so I got to pull, you know, from my relationship with my brother. Because we love each other dearly, but we can be ruthless with each other. And so, it was really easy to play in that way.

Zach: Oh, I’m quite excited about it. Ashley has promised to give me the stats of how many people romance me. I’m really looking forward to that.

Lucy: No pressure, gotta get those numbers up!

Zach: Yeah, I know. But, that’s the great thing about Lucanis, is that, you know, he’s extremely smooth, as an assassin, but, and, yes, he does have a heart, he does have a soft side, he’s not completely adept at always dealing with other people and interactions of that such, you know, he’s extremely stubborn and stuck in his ways, so it’s really hard for him to let people in sometimes, so I’m really excited for fans to get to meet him, and, you know, help him open up.

I really hope he can open up to a friend too and it is not just confined to the romance, although I can see how allowing someone to be intimate with him would be letting down the last of his defenses in a really significant way.

Twitter is saying (so it must be true! lol) that Lucanis’s height is 1.70 (5’7). So we’re the same height (I’m 1.70 on the dot!)

Yeah, ballpark of like a Tom Holland, Tom Cruise, Mark Wahlberg... maybe even Kit Harrington, Zac Efron even (I dunno how tall they are). But anyways. Not too shabby!

Yep apparently you are spot on with Kit. Zac Efron is 5'8" but what is an inch between friends? However, another from the 5'7" club is James McAvoy. So, plenty of leading men to choose from with which to compare Lucanis.

There we go, that's our boy. Looks like the wings do come out of his robe but we shall see.  He's now giving me a fallen angel vibe.

Well i hate those wings those are looking so stupid and weird. But yeah Lucanis is a crow so we have to give him wings.

I hope so, I was looking forward to the showdown between them, or perhaps my Rook saving him from some terrible retribution but the evil Magister.

They know he already has a following. I was disappointed we didn't get more of his voice though.

I tend to think this, too, the wings look spirit-y, not really construct like.

Ppl are thinking they may have spotted Viago and Teia in the trailer… are they that recognizable from the graphic novels? I mean, if so, that’s cool (goes for Zara, as well).

Right there, yes! That’s what I saw being referenced.

Hanako is not going to be pleased but it does seem as though the Crows are in a major conflict with the Venatori and thus it will definitely be a case of the enemy of my enemy is my friend, whatever I think about the Crows as an organisation.

It is intriguing to speculate who attacked whom first. Did the Venatori attack the Crows because of the damage that Lucanis had done to their membership, or did the Crows attack the Venatori on the instructions of Caterina as vengeance for the death of Lucanis, because she believed they were responsible? Viago and Teia were sniffing around the home of a major Venatori in Vyrantium in the Missing and I wondered why they were there when surely they should have been back in Antiva organising the resistance against the Antaam. So, they must have had a good reason (at least I hope so).

I've also been thinking about Zara Renata's words at the end of the Wigmaker Job. She recognised that Lucanis did have a heart because he cared about the slaves and she was planning to use that against him to control and revenge herself on him. She was going to lay low, so he wouldn't see her as a target, and then observe him from afar, identifying any flaws, any weaknesses that she could utilise. So, may be attacking not just the Crows but specific Crows was part of that strategy to discover whom he genuinely cared about. Of course, that will also mean that Rook is likely going to fall under her gaze, even without any other reason for us to do so (of which I imagine there are going to be plenty).

Also, please note that the Venatori are now routinely armed with red lyrium blades.   They are mass producing these things!
